FORMAT:
When you blog, in the Title, write your first and last name as you would as if you are turning in a paper to me. Then you do not have to write my name because I know you are in my class. Write what English class you are in whether it is English 52, 60, 100 and what College.
For example, one would write:
Yue Hayes
English 52
Cerritos College
Post #1
Homelessness
In addition, for the title, pick the topic of discussion, grammar/organization, content, current events, pop culture or literature as a TITLE that we have discussed in class. Write the posts like this: write #1 Post or #2 Post or Post #50, so I can easily keep track of them and how many you write.
Of course, you are welcome to write more than several posts, and in doing so is another form of participation and does count in the participation grade. Perhaps, in class, you may not participate all that much but in the realm of the blogosphere, you can from the comfort of your own home,
- reflect on the day's class discussion or offer up an insight that you found particularly interesting, etc., etc.
- How does it change the way you think or thought before on the subject?
- What actions might you take in the future? Anything is open to interpretation.
Of course, I need not go on and on about being respectful towards your peers' opinions and beliefs. If you disagree with another student's views be discreet about it: Do not say so and so is completely wrong because of this and that. Instead, say, I disagree with so and so and here are the reasons why I do. Go after their evidence and support and do not, I repeat do not attack someone else personally. This is supposed to be a forum for everyone to share their ideas and views.
*I will enforce the blogosphere by either deleting your hard work, making an example out of you here in the realm of the blogosphere or in class* . . .

Post 9 I think, who knows?
Compromise
I had a good conversation with Jovana about how some dads want their dinner ASAP. But instead of dads let’s say men. Some women don’t think they should cook, clean or normal house work. To have a good relationship with a men/ women or same sex relationship they need to compromise. I think women should do normal house work and cook, But and this is a big BUT, only if the man appreciates it. Both Sexist have a lot pride. Some women feel cooking/ and or cleaning is something that was in the 50’s and should be left there. Same thing with men, just because that it did happen in the 50’s doesn’t mean they have to make their woman do it now. Prof H. stated 50 percent of marriage end in divorce, but I feel that’s ends marriage compromise or lack of it. Making people do stuff when they do not want to of course their relationship does not work, or parents with their kids, bosses with their workers. Cooking/ cleaning are a big part of marriage, with the lack of it, or lack of appreciation can be a factor in divorce.
Obviously, there are other factors in divorce, but I feel lack of house work can big a factor. Well if you’re living with someone, and you don’t help around the house (being a man or woman) how long do you think it will last? This even works for a roommate, who wants a dirty roommate? Same thing with friends we love our friends, but if they come to your house they need to respect it and keep it clean. Man or woman, if you are not ready to do some house work you shouldn’t get in to a relationship.
Amador told me men want 3 things from women. They are sex, food and silence. Well agree men wants this, but how many will get it. To get silence and sex the girl has to stupid. To get food and sex of course the woman will talk. So again I come back to compromise.
Again sorry for the random post.
Hey Talia:
im pretty bummed. i took a test for math today and i dont understand math! i mean i do, but once the test is infront of me i forget what is what. like i know all the ways to do it, and thats what gets me. i assume that there are different ways to do it. =\ so im pretty sad.
yay talia!! you got 1200!!
JENNY:
ughh i totally agree with you. I was raised with my grandparents so i was raised like old fashion. the way i was raised is the woman has to do everything the man asks...like me i had to cook dinner and i had to serve my grandpa first because he is the man...idk but since i was raised this way i AGREE WIT IT BUT COME ON GUYS ITS 2008 women are not slaves. in the 50s women did all the work at home because men supported the family now a days women AND me support the family so the housework should be split also....its not fair for women to work all day, come home cook clean do laundry and everything i mean COME ON WERE NOT ROBOTS, guys can help out a little bit and if they cant they should at least show appreciation for what we do BECAUSE US WOMEN WERE AMAZING!
jovana don't be sad math is difficult for everyone it just takes practice....your like a genius so you'll get it
:D
Jenny:
i completely agree with you! it is about compormising with one another. understanding that while one is at work the other must help around the house. mi not saying go crazy and bust out the tiny q tip and clean everything. no all im saying is it would be nice (in my point of view) to come home from work and your husband cooked you something nice. GIVE N TAKE GIVE N TAKE. i also agree that a girl has to be STUPID to do the 3 things a man "wants" food, sex, silence. it could be the same for us ladies. we get annoyed by guys too.
if a guy had a girl with the 3 qualities that are pointed out, they would HATE it. because guys do like hearing their girl's voice, they do like to get into deep conversation with them, and what good would it do to sit there and have a guy stare into my blank face? not very good.
AMADOR:
you ma boy and everything, but i know you dont mean what you said. because on the 1st day that we met. you said that i was very smart, and we talked for literally hours. and you loved it!! (unless you lied to me) but you then said that you want to find a girl whom you can converse with, have a great talk and let it roll over for hours. yes we girls do have to know when to draw the line at talking, but for the most part, YOU KOVE IT!! =]
Talini:
hehe i made up your new name!! =] but yeah thank you!! you made me smile. thanks a bunch. ill try and keep trying. ill get it one day.
on the other hand, how was your day? did you watch the debate?

I have learned a lot this semester in Mr.Hsiao's class this semester. I am not a big English fan because it was hard for me to understand. What framents were before I came to Mr.Hsiao's class I did not know what that was. I didn not know what background was or a map sentece. In Mr.Hsiao' class I learned what is was and he also explained it well. i have learned to put more detail into the story that i am writing. Learned what a independent clouse was and a dependent cloause was as well. Some i am relearning and finding out a more better way to put in to the paragraph.
hahaha no....
i was at school but my day was pretty good i juss chilled all day because i didn't have work...

ohh thanks ya i'm pretty sure its ending and i don't want it to but i'm tired of fighting already you know?
but ya umm new topic
i work at banco popular in whittier
so if anyone needs to open an account LET ME KNOW haha
i told Cookie Monster that i would write about my dad's family so here it goes ...
(dont be scared)
my aunts (7 of them) all live in TJ. They left the house at 13 and they all left with a guy. all of them have 9 kids each, and some of my aunts are still getting prego.
my cousins are all from different dads because my aunts thought, "since i have no money, ill give you sex for drugs" so they did just that. my little cousins dont eat everyday, they walk around barefoot, and they dont shower.
When i see them i feel devastated. i try talking to them and telling them that life wont be as hard if they stay in school, and become something. none of them seem to care. (even the 18 year old ones)
my aunts do drugs infront of their kids, and now my oldests cousins do them too. they have marijuana plants in the back, and a crap load of neddles and such in the shack they live in.
one aunt, Ana, had a baby aboout 3 years ago. she did not want it, and she offered my parents to take it. we talked about it and i told them that i would take care of the little one as though shes my little sister.
we decided to go see the baby on Christmas and we bought toys for al the little cousins. i saw her and i kid you not, she looked JUST like me when i was a baby. i fell inlove with her, and i named her "ina" (which means pure). my mom was going to sort some things out and then we were going to come back for my little ina.
we get a phone call about 2 months later and its my grama. she says that the baby has died.
i begin to cry and i beg my parents to take me to her. it was about 8pm on a week night and we drove to TJ. by the time we got there, my aunts where all gathered and talking.
i never believe what my aunts say, and i know kids are like little drunk people so i pulled my other little cousin to the side who at the time was 8 and i asked her if she saw what happend.
she said, "yeah we where all sitting around playing and the baby was crying. my mom went to go get her some milk because we had none. the baby keeps crying and i go to the room to try to pick up the baby. my step dad is standing over her holding a pillow over her face. i yelled and told him to stop but he pushed me and told me to go ouside. i did. and i decided to run to get my mom. i did and once we got back the baby was dead. he swore up and down that she was choking on something but she wasnt."
once she said this, my eyes filled with tears, i forgot everything i had known about mercy and i walked up to him. i pushed him and yelled at him, my parents were telling me to calm down and i said, "NO THIS F***** wants to mess with innocent children just because they are crying?!" i squeezed my fist and punched him 3 times in the face. i would have kept going but my dad picked me up and pulled me away. i cursed at my aunt for being so blinded by a guy who jsut wants to bang!
i ran into the truck, and cried. i cried so much that i had a head ache, and my eyes where fatter than oranges. the next day at the funeral i couldnt look at my aunt or the man. angered i prayed for my little ina and i walked into the truck. i spoke to nobody and i became depressed.
it felt as though it had been my fault for not saving my little ina. i should have taken her with me, i should have gotten her the second my aunt offered. i shouldnt have waited....if i would have taken her, she would be 3 years old and happier than ever .... but i didnt and now it haunts me. it kills me , and i cry when i think about her. im actually cring as i type this. to have to live this moment over once again shatters my heart.....
and all this because my aunts prefer men who are dogs! and neither my aunt or her dog care about the kids.
all of my aunts say, "its thier lives, let them fuck it up."
and they say this because they want their kids to be as miserable and as stupid as they are...but if i could help it i will.
(sigh) sorry
Talini:
yes new topic. =] ooo how do you like it there? is it hard dealing with people who want their money? is that bank better than Bank of America? because i hate Bank of America.

sorry this might be a little late but we have to read 12 steps to become a millionare and a penny saved is a penny spent. (towards the back)
bring paper #1
do the run-on exercises
study midterm notes.
God I hope the Midterm is not tomorrow.
Hope this helps.
Jovana
I am pregnant dont make me cry.
But like i always say stupid people shouldnt breed.
People who have babies just because they can shouldnt have them.
Alot Good people want babies and they cant have them. People who dont care treat babies like things to keep a man or collect money.
your story truly touch me.
They should be a rule about people having babies that dont take care of them.
okay jovana i had a whole paragraph written for you and it erased so i gonna paraphrase...
i'm sorry that happened to you and i know what you mean about your aunt being blind, my aunt know that her husband molested her daughter and she stays with him still...i think it is disgusting how these men have control over them like my mom staying with my dad when he beat her and us...it's like their brainwashed
but no way is any of it your fault your aunt should have taken care of her and the boyfriend is a monster for doing that to a baby
the only thing you can do is be there for your other cousins and be a good influence on them and you can't be depressed and blaming yourself Ina is probably happier and better taken care of where she is at now if you don't mind me saying...she is with God now
stay strong sweetie and i'm so sorry
R.I.P Ina ♥
Jenny:
im sorry i didnt want to make you cry. and i agree with you. i dont understand why my aunts just dont get their tubes tied you know?
(sigh) im so heart broken. and i know you'll be a great mother! even if you are a tom - boy! (inside joke) hehe
i like my job...
it's a little stressful now because people are taking out a lot of money becasue they're scared even though our bank is just fine people still panic
but its good most of time i get the ocassional angry customer but i get over it they're probably just having a bad day
and OMG i hate BOA too...i used to have them theres always a long line and they like so impatient to help you i think they have more customers than they can handle.
Talini & Jenny:
Thanks alot for reading my post. and Talini, im sorry about your aunt. some men are terrible and i would say what their punishment should be but Mr. H would probably erase my comment.
i also know that my little ina is with GOD now and im grateful for that. i just wish ... i could have raised her like a little daughter. =[ but its all in the past, and she's happier and i know she loves me and knows who i am.
RIP my little girl. I'll always love you!! ♥
Thanks again ladies. you guys are very sweet. thank you for all your kind words

Hello everyone!
I have been taking a little break with the blogging, just because once I start, almost every other blog will have my face on it. haha.
Okay, so I'm going to get a little philosophical here about happiness. I'm going to start out by saying that I kind of agree with Shayne.
Think about the ying-yang, the balance of the opposites. I think that I believe (haha, I don't know if you get the joke but I'm not entirely sure of myself in what I believe either, but you and I both might find out soon) that in order for one to receive happiness, s/he must first experience suffering. This might explain why some wealthy people are unhappy and why some poor people are very happy.
I think that people don't know true happiness until they have felt true suffering, therefore sometimes it does come in full circle. What comes up must come down, but it is not at all an indication that one can't bring it back up, although s/he will might have to work harder.
Too philosophical for my brain. I do this only for this class. haha.
Jovana:
I totally agree that this thing is super addictive! I know, because I was an addict... haha. But you contribute a great deal of friendliness and feeling of welcome, so I think it's a good addiction for everyone :D
Gabriel:
I think what you were talking about sort of supports what I was saying about happiness. Although you were happy all the time under the influence of substances, you and your body will ultimately have to deal with the consequences. You trade that, however, for knowledge, and it goes on and on. Because of your struggle right now, I'm sure that you will get something good out of this. :]
--------------------------
M'kay, so I have to comment on the debate from last class. Let me just say that it's definitely difficult to be heard when you're in a group with outspoken people like Brandon, Tierra, Greg and Kayla, especially when you're a person like me, who is unsure of the values of everything I say or think. But I also definitely will have to say that everyone was great in the way they debated. Everyone brought up very good points, didn't go off-topic (too much), didn't get too caught in the argument to talk about the next subject, etc. I was watching my very first presidential debate and was surprised at how many times the host had to remind the candidates about the time limit. There were signal lights all over the place in there! They got caught too much in the argument that when the next topic was presented, they answered that topic in about 2 sentences and came right back to the previous! I'm not a citizen so I'm not able to vote, but because of everyone in here that talk about politics, I have been very inspired to educate myself about the surroundings and the direction in which this country is headed.
So I wanted to say: thank you all. :]
Talini:
yes i will always be here for you too. thats a promise ♥♥
and really? bank of america is ridiculous! any type of anything, they take your money. and double it!
so i been overdrawn alot. =[
maybe ill show up one day, where is it at again? whittier? im really considering it. taken that im DONE with BOA.
and yeah Mr. H is probably craking up. He's hilarious
dang... While I was typing that last post, 10 more were posted!
Yue:
i was wondering where you had been. im glad you're back. =] and im glad i can make you feel that way. ♥
and you are very intelligent, you should creep out of your shell ... and BAM! show everyone that you have a great mind and you want to be heard! hehe
Does anybody know what the hell multivocal means? I don't get the definition?
Mr Hsiao, a little help here?
Hmm, about my cave, I feel that drugs trigger my brain to think deeper, and look at life from a different perspective. I am not condoning the use of such, I am only expressing what I feel.
I do not want to get off topic, so I'd like to know more, if you would like to extend this topic, add your comments, or anything please lets respect the blogosphere, and stay in track. So if you would like to know more please comment on one of my blogs, or contact me at my aol screen name: xgmonstergx. :]
Now
Onto out blogosphere topics,

Orlando:
Multivocal: with many different and valid meanings or interpretations
does this help ?

well i missed monday. i was sick and had appointments to see houses since my family is having a huge problem just like many americans across the country... EVICTION.
its so tough especially with my younger siblings going thru this. I hate this so much and i blame my parents. I think about it and i really cant hate them. they are my family and i cant think of them wrong. im being hopeful and really being optimistic but im also being realistic. I dont know where we are moving since my parents have been doing most of the work until monday that is, i have decided to take charge. i dont want for my family to become homeless. My family has been through a lot already and im thinking that this one more hill in the road is going to be a piece of cake.
tomorrow we have to turn in PAPER ONE? which one exactly? and we have to read the story of the penny to become millionaires and whatelse?
id appreciate it if anyone gets back to me.

What is happiness? Status anxiety
This topic is ridiculous because you could approach it in so many ways. But, I believe that happiness comes with success and just being satisfied with yourself. I think that if you concentrate on your own life, and do everything to the fullest and never half-ass, you will see success and that will make you happy. The finished result of something that I have worked very hard for always makes me proud. Especially if it is something that someone told me I could not accomplish. But, once someone looks at their neighbors car and sees that it has flashy paint and rims, it becomes a competition.
The rich seems to make sure that their mansions and 12 car garages are showed off to the fullest. They put their house on mtv cribs and they know the world will be jealous. The publicity that just shows how rich all these celebrities are just rots the minds of the lower and middle class, by making them feel worthless without their escalade on 22's.
Hey Thalia:

A penny saved is a penny spent is a pretty good story, or writing or whatever you call it. The author points out how they prepared for the worst. Also about how we as Americans, rather pay attention about how long the mall is open whereas they can spend more time paying bills.
just pointing out the points in the story. Maybe WE should all hope for the best but prepare for the worst. One never knows if tomorrow we wake up and the world could be chaos.........
Who saw the Debate Tonight?
Obama is a pretty good speaker if you ask me, i like his voice. Sounds catchy handsome man too. Kinda reminds me of my self.....lol
Kayla:
Hehe, it was totally meant to be taken as a compliment :]
I'd love to speak up, it's just that my mind works very slowly so it's pretty difficult for me to quickly come up with something to say.
You, on the other hand, do very well in that situation, even if you don't totally agree with the topic. I think that's really cool.
I think I can learn a LOT from you,
and thank you very much for your words of encouragement, I appreciate it :]
Mr Extacee, I watched part of the debate and i do think Obama has a mesmerasing voice but his thoughts resemble that of an add patient. He goes off on wild tangents while trying to answer questions. On the other side of the spectrum McCain almost seems fake. It appears he is putting on a pretty mask and giving America the right answer to boost his popularity while I sit and am left in question. Does he live like other political leaders I hear of? Is his real face dark and selfish and are his motives greed Induced? I feel either pick we are screwed. Unfortunately, and to my demise, I am a questioner and tend to lean towards pesimism. I guess i shouldnt be so critical. We all obviously have things to work on.. at least i do. wow im going off into a tangent now. But im Republican and i seem to have lost hope... how about the rest of the bloggers? What are your political positions?
News from the Devil's son!!! i am going to the Norwalk/Glen game on the 10th, i will try to hang with one of my close friends and on the day before, i will be taking my Behind Ehr wheel test!!!! so to all that are interested in talking to me, i am here, i am not going to come to you unless i want to tell you somthing, and no i am not taken but i am working on it, so, sorry for the language, but fuck off. so, in shore that is my life so far. and Mr. H, if you ever want anyone to sing, i am here. and if i can, i would like to advertise my band in the class.
and to answer Mr. Hsiao's question as to what is happiness:
why are we having a debate on true happiness? lets go back to the basics. Happiness: 1. the quality or state of being happy.
2. good fortune; pleasure; contentment; joy.
in the back of my head I always felt happiness was a personal thing but now i fight for every individual when they say what their personal happiness is. If they say money brings them happiness, then so be it (even if it doenst bring me happiness) i will respect that. Heck if sex brings you happiness then stand up and shout "everybody wang chung tonight!"
Albert Camus-
"All men have a sweetness in their life. That is what helps them go on. It is towards that they turn when they feel too worn out."

Geeez, where to start. The debate on Monday went great, there were so many good points said. I'm the type of person that likes to observe and listen. So, after Monday I was thinking about what everyone had to say all day. Look at what you people do to me! lol.
During the debate all I could think about was my dad. He came from having nothing, working long hour days, living paycheck to paycheck. He decided he was sick of this life and wanted his family to have the things he didn't have growing up. He opened his own business giving everything he had. My dad would call himself "a machine", because he would only have time to get 4 hours of sleep a night. Somehow that seemed to never bug him. Now that he has built up his business he doesn't work nearly as much and is home a lot more.
One day we were talking about how he wishes he could start over again, and go back to the old life he lived. Even though he has it all, he's still unhappy.
My dad regrets missing out on mine and my brothers childhood, things that money can't buy. True happiness comes from family, friends, and God.
"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money." Matthew 6:24
well... to sum it up, God= eternal happiness.

When we had the class discussion on the William Carlos Williams poems my group read his poem Pigheaded Poet. This poem was very deep in the fact that all the person wanted was to be accepted by his family. Just by the title it shows that he kept trying, being "pigheaded" means to be very stubborn so i think that he was stubborn with his familys constant disapproval. Also were it says "i walk bare foot in quicksand" i think that it refers to his family pulling him back like they are the quicksand.
haha stephen.
but it's funny people are talking about Paris Hilton on here. I'm actually watching her new show right now.. laughing.

Well I have to agree with Status Anxiety when it makes the point money doesn't equal happiness. Life has so much more to offer than money. Relationships really can bring you happiness and anyone who disagrees hasn't really been in a good relationship. Even though things really do turn to ruins in the end, it does matter how you lived your life and the type of person you were. People can make a difference in other people's lives and a start a cycle that may continue for years to come. Good relationships make you happy no matter what you're going through. They can make you smile at anytime and keep you strong even through the hardest of times. I've been in love once, and it made me feel alive. No matter how much money I had at the time it didn't matter, because at that time love was all I needed. Now that I'm out of the relationship come to think... Is love REALLY all you need?
I have read the story "Status Anxiety" so many times, but seem like i am having a hard time understanding it, or maybe i am not paying close attention. I do agree that certain people do have a high self-esteem, and successful man or woman of any race is deserve their own accomplishment rather than inheritance. And further more, wealth is not a pice of richest, but it is a virtues of creativity, courage, intelligence, and stamina, and there they were talking the diffferent between god and luck. As for "luck is Providence, and god is a reflection of the collective secular faith." In the novel, it also said the quickiest way to stop appreciating some one is to marry the person.
What is really a Status Anxiety?
These reading it makes a lot of sense ot me, but it so hard for i to interpret in a different meaning from my own believe. I agree that our success come from our accomplishment, not from our inheritance. WE have to work hard to earn what we deserve, and yet it is part of our status anxiety.
There are many aspects from in dividual point of view with status anxiety. Alain de
Botton has given us some of the example or illustration of Status Anxiety.
This reading sure its tough at some point, and i hope i had make my point.
The post has gone up to a THOUSAND!
I like how Jovana break down the word "assume." Very creative. lol!
every one of us have a different view and different perspective on life in general. WE all live in the same world, but we all a different cave in our life.
NO matter what we do or have done, just don't regret. Because mistake we make, it is a lesson we should learn!

i was reading status anxiety and i really thought about all the things i own. I was remembering one year for christmas i really wanted this bike. It was the only thing i wanted for the longest time. i would bug and bug my parents to give it to me. Reminding them day after day, " um, christmas is coming up and, just letting you know, i want that bike."
Well that year for christmas i did get that bike, but now i have no idea where it is. At some point in my life that bike disappeared and it didn't occur to me at all. Something i wanted so badly vanished and i didn't even notice.
In paragraph nine it says "the most elegant and accomplished of vehicles cannot give us a fraction of the sastisfaction we derive from a good relationship..."I think this is true.
I just graduated high school and a lot of my friendships i had are slowly disappearing. They are disappearing just like that bike disappeared. For some reason it hurts a lot more to lose those friendships than it would ever hurt to lose a million bikes. I would gladly give up my cell phone, which, let me tell you, is a big deal, to have some of the friends i have lost back. No material posession in the world can make up for a best friend.

Status Anxiety
During the discussion in class, I found myself very interested in trying to discuss an objective view on a subject that I have many opinions about. I have always believed that people will seek their own means of happiness (whether it be through material possessions, drugs, sex, booze, etc) People have their own vices and devices. I have views that support the poor and views that support the rich. I have seen people move from lower class to upper class. I have also seen upper class fall into lower class. After reflecting on the debate, I think that people will ultimately do what they want. My uncle moved his way from lower to middle class into the upper class. He now owns four properties, his own very successful lumber business, too many vehicles, and a very close family. I also have seen a friend that pissed everything away after he earned substantial money from a child acting gig. I noticed that the difference is the mentality in the person. If a person wants to be successful, they will seek the resources that will aid them. If a person wants to be lazy, then he or she will be lazy (regardless of status). People with money have an advantage in the fact that that they have money to invest in their future and some take full advantage of that. Some people who struggle to live daily life have a hard time seeing any light because they worry about providing a next meal and may not have much money or knowledge to invest in the options that are available. Then there are some poor people who don't care and try to take advantage of their situation. I don't agree with this, but I have seen people act much worse when pushed to "desperate" measures. I don't know how to solve status anxiety. I don't even know how to solve my own daily anxiety. I just try to stay humble and courteous and I am happy much of the time.

I woke up thinking about my paper, I don’t know why I just did. I saw my grade and I wonder why I got it but then I saw why. I am still confuse about the adding feeling, emotion and detail. I guess when it come to writing paper about my self I am not really good at. I am not really an emotion, feeling type of guy. I don’t like showing how I feel. But if want to pass the class I have to work harder.

it was difficult for me to argue against you last class, mainly because i held your views as my own. Im glad you brought up what you did because i wanted to bring those statements up myself. And i agree. "to each, his own" speaking on a secular level, life is short, so live how you must, and for what you will. And on a christian level, god gave us the ability to turn from him, so we may live for what we will.
That being said im an adamant believer in Social Law, that is to say i believe some things are just plain wrong and we shouldnt allow it. Like price gouging. businesses should be able to charge what they want but COMEON! Keep the have-nots happy or we'll rise against. as history says.

in class we had two sides the rich and the poor. It was a fun exersise we as a class went back and forth on quotes and ideas. both side had good points that were brought to the table.
As for the middle class i think that they are gone. we as a country only have the the rich and the very poor. It is very sad you make in the world or you are poor. I hope the country can bring back the middle class.
See you all in class

I still have lots to say about the rich and poor. I can sort of relate to both side because I have been in both side, but I have to work right now, I'll post later.
after reading status anxiety 3 quotes stood out to me.
1 "the very concept of the "status symbol," a costly material object that confers respect on its owner, rests upon the widespread and not improbable notion that acquisition of the most expensive goods must inevitably demand the greatest of all qualities of character."
as to what is, or what causes status anxiety is the idea created by the selfish nature of human beings and fed by advertisement which is a direct result of the progress of technology. the assumption that having things will make us more respectable in the eyes of other and the process of getting these materials, or the lack of these materials, cause us to be anxious.
2. "the quickest way to stop noticing something, may be to buy it."
i love this quote and if we reflected upon this, part of our anxieties and desires for the objects would be gone. it also says that advertisements leave this part out. why?
3. "what does it matter, really, if we have not succedded in the eyes of others?"
If we focus more on our needs, not wants, then we would be less selfish creatures. our motives are based so heavily upon our selves. this is not right! like the song imagine by John Lennon- "imagine. imagine all the people, living for today! imagine all the people, sharing all the world! the brotherhood of man! i hope that someday you will join us, and teh world will live as one!" imagine how beautiful the world would be. living to serve others and to serve God is my purpose in life and status anxiety touches base on the fact that God is the only permanent and constant thing.
Though I do not have my book in front of me. Did anyone notice that a quote from William Carlos Williams -Ozymandias (sp?) is in Status Anxiety? In the end that statue/that pharaoh lay in its ruins. We're all here, but in the end what do we really leave behind? Material things? Or great memories of us?
Daily updates:
About 45 minutes ago stocks were up over 130, hah. I checked again before opening the blogosphere...yeah its down -163 again. JPM is up though (maybe a positive sign for more bankers, who knows, since they are the largest bank as far as deposits go in the US)
To whom may use Wachovia, you might have heard initially Citibank bought their banking operations, but was later challenged by Wells Fargo who offered to buy the whole company. Well now this has gone to court (of course). Who knows what could come of it. But if Wells Fargo does get a hold of Wachovias $450 billion deposits they would be have the highest number of locations in the US.
Since today our Fed. Reserve along with European and other central banks lowered interest rates to subside the economic plummit we're in. Its benchmark rate is now at 1.5 percent (maybe this is why there was such a drop not to long ago in the stock market.)
It's going to be very interesting to see how our new president to be will handle this mayhem...
Good job Nick, I'm watching CNN, because there is nothing better to do than watch CNN when you're sick, and I've been watching the stock market, dow now -180 I'm thinking it should drop to -200 today, who knows anymore.
I'm still thinking about buying google, in the past 3 years its shares have only increased.
In the time I wrote this the dow went from -180 to -182 to now -187
Wow!
I'm watching the news, and Obama is speaking, and when he started talking about economy, oil, renewable energy stocks went up 100 points!
Just thought I'd point that up,
-60.22 now
Yeah last night it closed at -500ish! ouch. Interesting how simple words to ease the minds of the public have such drastic effects on our market shares.
Google is a monster. High goals, that are effectivly reached. They start small and work with what is in reason and grow. Great business/marketing skills. The new Android G1 Phone, its new Chrome browser, Map tools, Google earth....currently an oligopoly...soon to be a monopoly. Larry Page and Sergey Brin are great euntrepenuers.
I believe the smart way to go right now is google, and renewable energy companies, hopefully we see a bloom of these,
This would stimulate the economy by creating new jobs
Well, we need to spike the punch of our economy. Right now everyone is scared, very conservative preparing for the worst. Google makes its money based on a advertisements. Both Domestic and international clients list their selves as a service. This is alot of money, and if the market ceases to recover then it would be hard to create those opportunities. I agree with the natural/reusable energy. Waste is a terrible thing. If you haven't heard Google is doing something with an offshore data center. It uses waves to power the plant and the cool water as a heat sink. Awesome concept. This will open more jobs for engineering, and workers to run lines out to this sea vessel.

The discussion in class or the debate i should say, was interesting in the fact the it truly defined the world in which we live in. One thing though i shall steal the verse from the tv show "married with children"and it is "you cant have one without the other" we need both to survive there cant be more on one side. This would tip the balance of the economy and ultimately destroy the other. I give my kudos to the rich for assisting with the poor and we are very appreciated for it and i hope that the rich will understand that the poor never turn there back or look down on others but accept the fact of our place in society. To know that if the rich man ever needed anything he could always come to the poor man even tho there will be some smirks and small jokes we will always ultimately help in any way we can.
WE HAVE PLENTY OF LOVE TO GIVE AND ARE THANKFUL FOR EVERYTHING.
"IT AINT THE GANGS IN THE HOOD BUT THE COPS WHO HARASS ME"
SO PEEP GAME FAM, I WAS WALKING TO THE BUS STOP 2DAY AND I WAS STOPPED BY THE POLICE. I INQUIRED AS TO WHY I WAS STOPPED AND THEY REPLIED THAT I FIT THE DISCRIPTION OF A SUSPECT. BUT I KNO THAT THEY STOPPED ME CUZ THEY SEEN A "VATO" WITH A HEAVY BACKPACK. THEY ASKED ME IF THEY COULD SEARCH IT AND SINCE I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE(ANYMORE) I GAVE PERMISSION. THEY WAY THEY ACTED YOU WOULD HAVE SWORE THAT THEY FOUND DRUG AND GUNS INSTEAD OF BOOKS AND A FOLDER. WHY IS IT THE PEOPLE MAKE SNAP DECISIONS ON OTHERS BASED ON THE LOOK? I CAN TELL YOU. IT IS EASIER TO THINK IN GERNALITES THAN TO JUST THINK. THE COPS STOPPED ME CUZ THEY SEEN A YOUNG CHICANO WITH A BAG WALKIN DOWN THE STREET. SO INSTEAD OF THINKING HES TRYING TO BETTER HIS LIFE THEY THINK HE MUST BE DOING SUMTHING ILLEGAL. THATS WHY A LOT OF THE PEOPLE IN URBAN AREAS ACT THEY WAY THEY ACT IS BECAUSE THATS ALL THATS EXPECTED OF THEM. ITS BEEN SAID U TREAT PEOPLE LIKE ANIMALS THEY MIGHT START ACTING LIKE IT! I'M TIRED OF NOT BEING ABLE TO WALK DOWN THE STREET WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT THE COPS GRABING ME AND SLAMMING ME AGAINST THE HOOD OF THIER CAR. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO HAVE UR FACE ON THE HOOD OF A HOT COP CAR? ITS BULL MAN, WHY CANT PEOPLE JUST ACCEPT THE FACT THAT NOT EVERYONE IN THE VARRIO IS UP TO KNOW GOOD...
AYO MAN I WAS WALKING IN TO SCHOOL AND SUM PEOPLE ASKED ME TO SIGN A PAPER TO HELP KEEP SEX OFFENDERS IN PRISON LONG AND I DID SO WITHOUT HESITATION. AS I WAS SIGNING 12 PEOPLE WALKED BY ALL WHO JUS IGNORED THE PEOPLE WHO WERE ASKING THEM TO SIGN. I COULDNT BELIVE THIS. WHY IS EVERYONE AGAINST GAY MARRAIGE BUT CANT STOP TO KEEP CHILD MOLESTERS IN PRISON LONGER? DONT PEOPLE STOP TO THINK ABOUT THINGS? I MEAN LETS BE REAL, EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE CHILD IN THIER LIFE SO WHY WOULDNT YOU DO EVERYTHING TO PROTECT THEM? I KNO THAT (GOD FORBID) IF SUMONE WAS TO HURT MY NEICES OR NEWPHEWS OR LIL COUSINS IN ANY WHY I WOULD BE LOOKING TO TURN SUMONE INSIDE OUT, LITERALLY. BUT I JUS DONT UNDERSTAND HOW PEOPLE DONT TAKE A STAND ON WHATS REAL BUT CAN BITCH AND MOAN ABOUT HIGH GAS PRICES.

I agree with you about them dirty cops. The same thing happens to my boyfriend and believe me it aint cool. Trust me he gets harrassed by cops like every other day. They have even done it in front of me. For no reason they always be trying to search him. Not only him but its happened so many times to my homies and my brother. Cops think that just because their wearing a uniform and walking around with a badge they can do whatever they want. but it ain't even like that.

I really enjoyed todays class even though it was extended. Oh well I really didn't care. I am also finally realizing that I need to take this blog to my advantage and post more. I'm sure I will learn something valuable. I got a bad grade on my paper as well, and that too is influencing me to do better. I will try my best to improve my grade the rest of the semester, cause Hsiao knows I have no time for mistakes.
Amador,
I feel ya... I too have had my fair run-ins with the LEO's. Back of cop cars, on the hood, cuffed...whatever. If any were to look at me, first sight they see, skin head. But you know what. I don't care. They're just doing the job. Sworn to protect the public. Hey if I was them, I'd pull my ass over too. They see my truck and go oh "trouble". Living next to Hawaiian gardens...believe me I see it all. Its no wonder cops act so paranoid, they see the same cloths, the same body language, the same disrespect from real criminals that its hard for them to decipher good from bad. Not to be misunderstood, but there are crooked cops. NO DOUBT! But, many want these cities cleaned up just as much as you and I.
So where does it start? Where can we try to avoid these consistent problems. Lets make a list that we can all add to.
I'll start:
Clothing (not saying change you ward robe but maybe something a little less obvious, not something that says "hey, I have guns and paraphernalia")
Location/time (if 5 guys stand in front of a liquor store late at night...seems a little leery)
- Maybe walk around with a book in your hand? Instead of just a back pack?
Anyone else have any ideas?

Thanks! we're imformed that's all, haha I think the smart way to look at the stock market is by looking at the past, and what caused stocks to go up or down, and to look into the future, what will sell in the next year? what is something people will be interested in?
Google for example, it started with shares worth 10 dollars. now Google shares have increased to an average of five to six hundred dollars per share. Google, 10 years ago, was nothing but a simple search engine, but smart people saw great potential in it and exploited it, now this imposing giant is here to stay. Thats the past, now if we take a look at the future what will sell? Electric cars? solar panels? wind harvested electricity? bunkers? gas masks? I am considering buying a couple shares from Genreal Electric, They are always creating new ways to harvest energy, and i believe that when this becomes more popular not only will we create change but we'll create jobs, thus stimulating the market and making stocks go up and up.
and if i could ask to please refrain from using words such as "hate" of f bombs and stuff. I know how some of us view the police, BUT they do deserve our respect. whether we like it or not, someone's gotta do their job. so lets have a nice discussion about this matter. Strong words such as "hate" and others can be taken as insult or other ways. They also change the message being delivered. :]

monster,
Google started in a GARAGE! Who knew they would be this big. Most businesses fail within the first 3 years, and many after that 5-7 years. Google found its nitch.
It took some risk, but once people saw that site take off, adding into their stocks only increased its value and productivity. Like you said, we really need to invest some R&D into those companies who have real potential. Thus also like you said opening exploration opportunities for jobs of same or similar fields.

IT IS SO COOL HOW, YOU CAME OUT WITH THE TRUTH, ABOUT HOW DRUGS TRIGGER YOUR BRAIN AND MAKE YOU SEE LIFE FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE. I RESPECT YOU FOR BEING VERY HONEST, BECAUSE THIS COULD OFFEND CERTAIN PEOPLE THAT ARE TOTALLY AGAINST DRUGS. WELL I WOULD HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU BECAUSE I HAVE EXPERIENCED THAT, NOT THAT IM ALL FOR DRUGS, I MEAN THEY CAN BE VERY HARMFUL TO THE BODY BUT I DO HAVE TO ADMIT THAT SOME DRUGS MADE ME SEE EARTH FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE AND NOW I APPRECIATE EARTH AND THE BEAUTY OF ITS NATURE MORE, BUT TO ALL OF YOU DONT DO DRUGS IT WILL MAKE AMERICA MORE DUMBER, I ADMIT I'VE DONE THEM IN THE PAST, BUT I GREW OUT OF IT.

THEY HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE PUBLIC EVERYDAY AND THATS NOT EAST BUT ITS WHAT THEY SIGNED UP TO DO. THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO "PROTECT AND SERVE" NOT "PROSECUTE AND SERVERLY INJURE" POLICE ALWAYS USE THE SAME EXCUSE "YOU LOOKED LIKE THE SUSPECT" IF ANY SUSPECT LOOKED LIKE ME TRUST ME IT WOULDNT BE FOR THE SIMPLE CRIMES, I LOOK LIKE MORE MANSON NOT 50 CENT. I HAVE LONG HAIR DOWN TO MY BACK AND I'M DRESSED IN BLACK 4RM HEAD TO TOE. SO FOR ME TO LOOK LIKE THE SUSPECT MEANS "YOUR MEXICAN." PEOPLE WOULDNT DISLIKE COPS IT MAYBE THEY DID THIER JOBS INSTEAD OF HARASSING CITIZENS. LOOK MAN ITS 10 IN THE MORNING AND I'M WALKING DOWN THE STREET WITH A BACKPACK. ITS NOT LIKE I WAS CREEPING AROUND AT 3 IN THE MORNING. POLICE LIKE TO ABUSE THIER POWER AND THATS WHY PEOPLE COMMIT CRIME AGAINST THEM. THIER BADGE DOESNT MAKE THEM PERFECT, IT MAKES THEM ABOVE THE LAW(AT LEAST IN THIER OWN MINDS)

I know, and i did it because I believe the two sides of the story weren't well explained. Drugs are harmful, very. But at the same time, in my case they made me thionk deeper, think beyond, think outside the box. it's sad that i couldnt do it on my own without the help of drugs. But i have to be honest and say i am glad i experimented with them, because they opened my eyes and showed the immense world we live in.

A Penny Saved Is a Penny Spent by Eve Conant
I like this story because it's kinda of like comparison from before and now. The authour states people from the older generation are more thrifty and the most recent gernation don't know how to save. I believe the statement will be true on certain people. It depends on the family back ground, and what their value is. "Bue some of the "belt-tightening" is more psychological than frugal." Belt-tightening is more like you are budgeting your money, and frugal somewhat means thrifty. I think belt-tightening, frugal, and trifty means almost the same. I'm still thinking.
yesterday we were talking about would it be better to be rich or poor. i have a personal opinion.i believe its better to start out poor. then you appreciates the value of every dollar you earn. also when you do get rich you will think of those who are less fortunate and remember that money isn't everything and to help those in need. i think that a person only needs so much money especially since there are so many people in the world who are starving and/or homeless.o i also i want to comment on someones story how this ugly guy who own this big nice truck had this really hot girl and everyone said that she was materialistic maybe she likes him for his personality and not every girl out there is materialistic . ok that is all i gotta say. peace out!!

The topic was brought up in class. The rich/poor? I would rather be rich because being rich we can have the better opportunities in life. I don't want to sould selfish but we all want the riches, the cars, the house. We just need to work hard for it. I know some are less fortunate to have those things but it wouldn't make our life as interesting. Being rich people can be stuck up but some work from the bottom on up to get what they want. Our world will always be surrounded and run by money. Theres nothing anyone can do about it. We can talk about our problems but the only way we can change anything is do something about it. Thats all i have to say about everything.

I think lerning to be thrifty comes with experience. It is just like that old saying you never know what you have until it is gone. When i lived with my mother and had a full time job, my money was my playground. My mother's rules were live here for free as long as you are in school. That is exactly what i did. I stayed in school and kept all my money to myself. I splurged every weekend, even treating my friends to the things they want. Now that i have made the choice to leave the nest i don't even know what shopping is. My rent and bills comes first before anything. By the end of the month if i budgeted right i might can take myself out to a nice restaurant. I guess that is what you pay for privacy. I am grateful for everthing i have. Sometimes things do get hard, and an unexpeted expense might come up. That is why i make it a priority to put away to my savings every month. My savings is one of my bills.

my post will be up Mr. H around midnight or later. It is going to be so big I need to type it up in word first.
Topics to be Discussed:
The evolution of currency.
The evolution of power, greed, authority, morals, and respect.
I'm taking it all the way back to when the only currency available was physical labor.
Poor:
-Refugee
-Minority
-Gangsters
-The drug war(! wasting our tax dollars)
-Prevention not solutions
-The first kid to go to college
-Proximity effect of growing up poor but trying to better your quality of life.
-Unfortunate families
-Illegal Immigration
-COPS
-How corporations and RICH people do what they can to PREVENT the poor from achieving wealth
-It all starts with the kids and their environment......
Rich:
-Policies that favor middle class and up that oppress the poor.
-Benefit of status and wealth when dealing with crime.
-GREED
-Discrimination towards lower class folks
-Values
-Morals
-Religion
-Blindness due to greed
-Contradiction
-COPS
-You can be wealthy and do nothing, or you can be wealth and do everything to help. Instead of supporting negative influential figures that support policies that make the poor poorer.
This might not even make it here on the blog, and I might just have to submit it to you in Document form. It is probably going to end up around 3-4 pages long.
To end this post off I hate cops. I have no love for cops. My friends are victimized by cops everyday for nothing. They instigate hatred, anger, and violence towards them selves by imposing fear upon our selves when we do nothing wrong. I have been arrested numerous times for things that I am at fault, but I have also been harassed numerous amount of times for nothing. Why should I give them respect when they give me none. I live in the West Anaheim Islands that are ran by the county of Orange. Sheriffs patrol out area not APD. Someone gets shot, at least 30 minutes before a cop shoes up. Car accident about the same amount of time. Same goes for robbery, assault, theft. But shit like drinking out side with your friends, having a big group of friends over to hang out, a party, loud music, and they are there with the quickness. Not to long ago I was on lincoln and brookhurst, and a guy at the bar on that corner gets a 40 smashed over his head by a group of dudes. I am observing this sitting in my car waiting for light next to 2 APD squad cars. I roll down the window to tell them yo homies getting hurt are you guys going to do something. He looks at me and saids what did you say and drove off. No respect for police, if my cousin is a cop then f my cousin to. Any family member immediate, 2nd, 3rd cousins, whatever f the cops. Cops live in constant fear of the people. Especially when united, so they impose fear upon us before things get out of hand. Even if things are not going to get out of hand. If humans we're really united any government, police, and authoritative power would fear us.

What is poverty? I took a look back to debate we had on Monday.. and realized we never defined "proverty."
I'm asking these questions because i would LOVE to hear feed back from both colleges.
Anyways, I'm really tired of studying for mid-terms. That is all I have been doing these past few days. But it must be done. Good luck everyone on Mid-Terms in all your classes.

Everyone have different morals and beliefs in life. Most people work hard for money so they can buy the things they desire. There are so many things in this world that you can buy with your money. Greed is not necessarily a bad trait, because if there was no greed, then there would be no successful people. Money have the power to change one's characteristics. The way you spend your money depends on your morals and influences.

I am baffled!! I'm sorry but do you know how the police system works? Have you taken the time to listen to a police men tell his story. I have and let me tell you they are some of the most couragous people I will ever know. They risk their lives every single day to protect the community. They are shot at, cursed at, attacked, and you know what is the back of their mind? Will I get to see my little girl tonight, or will I be dead? Step back from the hatered and take a look at their lives and what they do for a living. They are patroling around to protect the community. They are trying to clean up the streets for kids like us, for the your little sister or brother when they are older. Police men don't ignore you for a reason, but it is their job and if they are told to be some where they have to go. And you had mentioned that it takes them 30 minutes to get to a call about a shooting. Think about how many other shootings that are going on in that city. Think of all the other crimes that are being committed at the same exact time or moments before. Once a police men is on site they cannot leave just because someone is getting shot at. Yes there are some police men that are untrue to the system. But that doesn't mean you should judge and say you hate every single cop. These police men have so much stress built under their belt. How would you like it if you were to walk into a room and people call you a pig? I mean it is their job, what do you expect?
"But shit like drinking out side with your friends, having a big group of friends over to hang out, a party, loud music, and they are there with the quickness"
Do you realize why they are their so quickly? Riots can happen, and if riots happen then everything could go wrong. Loud music there is a law against it. And honestly it isn't like police men are trying to ruin the party but you have to see that not only are they trying to satisfy the party but all the people that are in the next house over. And they could get there so quickly because maybe they were only one or two streets away.
If you show police men respect they will show you respect right back. I know this because I know many police officers. They are great people. It is not the fact that they are using fear, they are just in fear for their life more than half times they roll out to a call. They never know what they are walking into. Like I said what if you didn't know you were going to be able to see your little girl or boy going into a shift?
last blog because i have to go back and study. bye guys

Hmmm...the rich vs the poor eh? Interesting class debate I suppose, but honestly there is always the good, the bad, and the ugly in everyone. There are some lower class individuals out there that do not deserve to live on this planet. They are just taking up breathing space and not doing anything to better themselves. Though there are some out there that are making a difference in life. Same goes for the middle/upper class, some squander their money without having to worry about their finances decreasing. Though there are some that came up from being poor and knew what it was like to be in the lower class, but they know what it is like to appreciate their value of the dollar.
Whether you are rich or poor, both are needed in this decaying world. It all comes down to the character at heart and their moral beliefs whether they will or will not make the right choice for a better tomorrow.

The debate in class was something I have never tried. The topic did not turn personal since we all did not have the choice of debating for the "Rich" or the "Poor". When Prof. Hsiao announced that my side of the class would debate for the "Rich" I was a bit unsure of how we as a team could represent a status of people I admire and loathe at the same time. I do not want to fight for the poor because I do not want any soul to struggle. I do not know the level of being rich. When are you considered rich? However I do not want the poor to stay poor. By the way, did I miss the part when Prof Hsiao announced the winning team?
jenny your not wierd i wanted to hug jovana too....shes soooo huggable :D no i guess it's just because we want to be here for eachother, and like how amador went out there with her, it was really nice and showed he cared
JOVANA YOUR SO LOVED♥
so the class discussion today caught my attention, hearing about everybodies nieghborhood stories...
honestly, from listening to everyones stories throughout the semester, i dont think any of us have it easy. we all have our own form of a hard life whether its family, work, friends, bad choices whatever.....i think i'm speaking for everyone when i say none of us have had an easy life.
However we are different from others because we are making our lifes better.
I think there are different catagories of people. there are those who have had a perfect life and they mess it up themselve. there are those who have had a good life and do good, they own a company or something. then there is the people we can relate too... the one that have had a real hard life and just keep going farther down in life, OR there are those who have had a hard life and decide they dont want this forever and they begin to change it...
I think we all fit into this catagory because we are all changing our live for the better,
like monster quitting drugs
like amador changing his ways
like danielle who decided she would not be like her father
like george who didnt have anyone so he changed himself
like jovana who will never neglect her kids
like jenny who doesnt want anything else except to be there for her baby
and everyone else, you are making your lives better just by getting an education...most of us are the first in our family
SO I WANT TO CONGRATULATE EACH ONE OF YOU FOR CHOOSING THE BETTER CHOICE...
our kids will be raised better and hopefully in generations to come the world wont be so ugly thanks to our examples...
WOOP WOOP....CONGRATS TO US!

To be rich or poor!
To be happy or sad!
That is a very sensitive subject. As went through it in class, i couldnt help but think would i rather be rich or poor? like many of my other classmates would probably have to agree that being rich is way better than being poor. What really defines rich? all the money you have, or if u look at, as long as you have friends, and family some would say that is all the riches needed in life. I can agree that in some cases rich and poor are the same in one aspect that they are lonely, im not talking in all cases but in most. some rich people are so greedy that they loose all their family and friends, and with the poor they usually have no friends and family to begin with. I agree that if you work hard for your money than you deserve it. As long as you keep your sense of mind, and not become a snob. For the poor, in some cases it might not be their fault that they became poor, but most of the time it is because of drugs or alchol. Thats all i really have to say about that.
I just read the "12 steps to become a millionare", interesting article. Its all about investing your money and trying to get a better job. I wish i knew more about investing, because i know nothing about investments, or even the stockmarket!! is that a bad thing??
Midterm is coming up...everyone study!

My Cave
yeah this is not going to be easy for me because i hate talking about myself. Well ok here I go. My cave is myself. It is because i hold myself back constantly. I am always holding myself back because i am afraid. I am afraid that i will try so hard, do my best and end up in a lesser position that i had intended. It scares me to be unsucessful and without money. When people try to help me i turn away because i am very proud. I dont like to ask people for help because the last thing i want to look to others is weak. I can not even tell the person i love that i love him in fear that he might not feel as deeply as i do. I have only had one real relation ship because i was afraid that he would be like my father.and that is where my dad comes in the picture..
I have been through a lot growing up with my father. He was constantly having affairs on my mom and he would come home unsahamed that we all knew where he was. He was always telling my mom that he loved her andthat it would never happen again. and it would not happen until he did it again.
He turned away from women and just moved to me. After year of the sexual abuse i told my teacher because i trusted her so much(i also keep contact with her still to this day). I was in fifth grade. My mom sent me to a nun to talk out my problem and my dad would attend them with me (WHICH I HATED! I HATED TO BE NEAR HIM).My mom kicked him out and so he was homeless for the while. I have two older sisters and they were fully aware of my situation and one day came to me and told me to tell my mom to let my dad come home because they missed him. So i did, i thought it was my fault and i hated myself for a very long time. So she did. she took him back. And we all acted like he never did a thing. Like it never happened.
It kills me to talk about it because i still have yet to really deal with it. I am not close to anyone one in my family except my two little brothers and my nephew. I hate and love my father for what he has done to our family. I hate that my mother is so traditional in the mexican ways were we have to forgive. AND I FEEL BETRAYED BY MY SISTERS EVERY TIME I LOOK AT THEM.
..back to my cave- I dont want to have a husband who will be like this. I hold myself back because i feel that i am just to scared to face life and the fact that i have noone to face it with makes it just so much harder. I am my own cave and i kinda really hope that noone reads this because this strip of writing is the weaklink in my chain, but mr. h asked.
Mr H.
well this blogsphere has brought us all closer and i think by the end of the semester were going to be one big family....
SO,
i think we should do an assignment where we each write our life story...our struggles through life and how we've decided to change it.
kind of like the Freedom Writers book..
idk i think it will be a good assignment, it will help us cope and bring us all closer and it will get a lot of feedback.
Most of us have already shared our story here on the blog and todays discussion really got me thinking how were all trying to change and i think our stories can make a difference....
idk IF ANYONE ELSE FEELS THE SAME WAY I DO HELP ME OUT !!!!!
Alexis:
you shouldn't be ashamed or embarrassed, trust me i have been where your at and i am barely beginning to love myself and the first step to healing is knowing that in no way is it your fault...

Mr. Hsiao was right, his classes are like therapy sessions. My eyes watered when I saw Jovana leave the room, probably because she's unlike anyone I ever met and I care for her even though I'm sometimes a jerk haha. Anyways, that visit from those Homecoming pageants was unexpected and hilarious. "Go to the bookstore, you know where they sell books!" -#7 HAHAHA! I actually talked to her after class. She's cool, but it felt like she was only talking to me to get me to vote for her. Idk, the conversation felt superficial, so I left.

So yeah, looking forward to the Isaiah House next Saturday!

Please let's refrain from using statements like these. let's keep a healthy environment for everyone. we can have a discussion on who likes and who doesnt like police officers. I respect your statement, I just don't think those words are the politically correct ones. :D
Hey Talia!
It seems like everything I said in class made you laugh haha
ya because your so funny...
you say jokes like all low so no one can hear but im sitting like right there so i hear and i start laughing like when you got all excited bacause you thought you got to judge the homecoming girls lol
thank you talyia,
it is just so hard you know when you feel your life is not going to be what you want but what you see. I my case that when i look at my family, i feel that i am looking into my own future.
haha i just hope that he deletes all of these once class is over.
"The only good cop is a dead one!"
It is beliefs such as these that proliferate the tension between police and the community. It's a given that a lot of officers abuse their power but one bad apple does not necessarily spoil the bunch. I empathize with the experiences that people such as Amador has had to go through and he has more than every right to be weary of police. But to say that the only good cop is a dead cop is outrageous. They go into their shift thinking to themselves that no matter what, at the end of the day they are going home to their families. Now think to yourself if you were in that position would you not want to watch your back by any means necessary as well. It is a difficult profession and some tend to forget that aspect. Oh and by the way this is in no way an attack to salvador. Hell i even find myself singing along to the song by NWA "F*** tha police." I am not a big fan of police either but i can understand the fact that they put their lives on the line everyday.
Cliffs:
-Cops can be corrupt
-Cops are just doing there job
-It is a dangerous job and should be respected as such.
-I do not even like cops that much but someones gotta say something other than the negative.
salvadore
you are right kind of but what monster has to say is true.
Cops are not perfect but who is. People are so harsh to them because they have power. Imagine in your case if you really needed a police office to come to your assistance and he did. You would be glad.
People are just way to quick to judge police officers. all they are trying to do is keep the peace but others wont let them
alexis:
that is completely untrue... no way am i like my family i decided that that is the opposite of what i wanna be...and you can decide that too, you already are by going to school,....
don't worry sweetie you'll be fine, your strong and you don't have to worry about it being deleted...don't be embarassed we all ahve problems and this is THE BLOG FAM were not here to judge just to support
SO SMILE...
Yeah I love making people smile any way I can. I would say them out loud but Mr. Hsiao would be on my case haha. Those homecoming girls were a kick, weren't they?
Thanks Talia...
Here i thought i was being weird.
Why did all my light sockets went out? i was just warming up my dinner and the fused went out!!! aaahhh This is what i get for moving out!! Kids stay with your parents long as you can, or right before you kill eachother.
i really did not like that #1 girls bright pink shoes..i kept staring at them and kept thinking where the hell WOULD ANYONE get shoes like that???
about the homecoming girls i wasnt listening to a word they had to say. #7 was pretty hot tho. superficial or not i would not be looking to discuss anything deep anyway.
yea salvador, they were
and Mr. H was making them feel bad because he couldn't stop laughing and he has this laugh where you know he's making fun of you lol
yea, i like sitting in front of you...you make the class more interesting lol =D
talyia
did you grow up with a strict family? because if you did then you can imagine really how difficult it is. My have always been given everything that i have now, my car, money, house, food, and so i have always had to go to them. In a way that is how i feel so traped,i have nothing yeah i could get a job but it would be nothing because becoming my own person is out of the question. to think outside of the family is like a crime. My family sisters included take care of eachother, they have eachother to take care of. it is not so simple
oh wait dude!! here i go! i great example of my stupid cave!!! i dont know why i do that..dissregared this talyia haha
Lester....
I agree about the cops comment. Who really likes cops but they do have to do their job. My b/f is trying to become a cop and it’s a lot of hard work.

Earlier this week the discussion in class was over rich and poor.. As a matter of fact the entire class was separated into two groups, the rich and the poor. What really defines rich and poor? For some people it is all materialistic and for others being rich would be being healthy and with your entire family. Honestly speaking, I think everyone would like to be rich instead of poor, who wouldn't right?...who wouldn't like to live a life with no financial worries. Then again, having all the money in the world cannot buy you happiness. Its a pretty confusing topic... makes one think.
I don't think there is anything wrong with being rich, as long as it doesn't get to ones head, and start being mean to those who are less fortunate. At first even when I saw someone homeless on the streets, I would think they were lazy and only wanted to drink or something, then I found out that some of these homeless, don't choose that as their lifestyle. Some of the homeless on the streets are war veterans or mentally ill people. Instead of judging a book by its cover we should help them out! :)
People make or obtain their money different ways. The rich may either work for their money or get it handed to, and the poor may beg for their money or work scrummy jobs. In the end, different people will spend their money different ways that makes one happy whether it is, buying a bunch of unnecessary things, booze, or drugs. I agree with Danny in that "The way you spend your money depends on your morals and influences."..its true.
We'll see what tomorrows class discussing consist of. (:
Salvador: i dont go to Cerritos.. but im going to knotts scarry farm tomorrow!! :) woot woot..
Another thing about the homecoming girls is that i did not for one second feel sorry for them sounding disorganized. Even though they had to go in front of a class they did not know, they are still putting themselves in the position to be the center of attention so they shoud adjust accordingly.
Wow i havent been on in like a day and the blogging number has gone up!! well anywho this is the new MYSPACE right?..

I totally understand about the whole being raised old fashioned! its crazy how my grandpa is. i mean if you mess with the way she arranges the bathroom god forbid shell break loose. Everyone in my family are scared to bring a "friend ;)" over because we know how she will react. It takes her a long time to adjust to a new "member" of the family lol its funny in a way but scary too. I guess whatever granny says goes right?

I am single if any one cares.
if you like, i can sing country, rock, anything i have heard.
hey, its Zack. i needed to make a new one!!!!!!!
woah woah woah. Ok gotta jump in again:
For those of you really hating on cops. I'm sure each of you have your stories. Believe me, I have my experiences too. But take into consideration what they do. Did you not think they are risking their life every time they pat you down? Are they supposed to take your word for it that you carry no needles or harmful objects to their person? Being stuck with something can ruin their lives. Or what about this, how easy is it to spot a cop in a crowd when all others are cookie cutter images. They are targets, might as well be wearing the Target sign...we see them, they may or may not see us. Give them credit for the guard they have up.
Its terrible the media really exhibits the bad side of cops. Training Day, Lakeview Terrace etc etc the list goes on and on. If we didn't have such crime terrorized areas the cops wouldn't have to be baby sitters of the streets. I'm sure its their favorite thing to do, when they drive through a tough area where they know modern swords will fly.
What really gets me, is when I am (has happened multiple times) sitting on that rough rubbermaid plastic seat in the back of a squad car, I'm nothing more then a caged animal. And thats how I should be treated, on or off the street. I am not a bad person, but in the end...the remorse gets to you, it gets me. I feel terrible, they [The Popo's] pulled me over, wasting their time. I'm sure they could be much much much more productive instead of profiling me, because others who may share similar characteristics, fill their mind with fear. Do not blame them.
If everyone hates/hated cops, what could/would they look forward to everyday? Serving a community that despises them. Ok, so what if they didn't pick you, but they got your friend...you would hate them . (sorry monster had to use the "h" word) If they split up your quite house party...you will still hate them. If they pulled you over with JUST a warning...you'd still hate them.
I think its us civilians who need to stop being the real haters. Then things might start looking up. Are we much different? Preconceived images of their actions as they are to ours. There are more of us then them...lets be the first to change those ways.
Consider yourself in those shoes, be open minded. Forgive and love.
ok, let me go over what i said before .

QUESTION for any one, is there any one good at math? if you are let me know if your able to help out the poor and miss fortunate lol i suck at math.
Hoping into the cop conversation some times i dont understand apparently its still called racism when a colored cop beats a colored person is it because the cop is a different race? the blue race? i agree how the media puts a bad spin on it you never ever see majority of the time the "suspect" throws the first swing or starts to show aggravation against a cop, a lot of people don't realize the amount of force actually required to take down a fighting human being with out seriously harming him/her. Thers a youtube video where a guy gets tazed twice but want to know why? he was warned to stand down multiple times and showed signs of aggravation after the first tazed he still did not want to give up so he was tazed again keep in mind being tazed hurts but is extremely none leathal.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6bVa6jn4rpE
listen to the women officer warning him multiple times the officers was in the right. I believe doing it in front of people so it should they were in the right and they were not just doing it. so for now on when a cop ask you nicely to please comply with him its best u do that instead of screaming like a little girl thinking how dady did you wrong. People have a huge problem with authority i get it its America you can say what you want to say but the minute you start to get out of line you best check your self as Mr Hsiao puts it.

Our class discussion was really interesting. Being "poor" gave me the feeling like nothing was really knew. However, I could really feel for the rich people. I mean, yeah, SOME wealthy people are truly genuine when it comes to helping other people. But most of the time celebrities only donate money to charities to make themselves look good. Am i right in a way?? Its one thing to just throw your money in someones face and actually take matters into their own hands and DO something. For example, I think that Tyra Banks really does care for girls who suffer with self esteem issues. She wrote a book and established a camp called T-Zone esp. for that purpose.
I'm not a big fan of celebs who just donate their money to charities and stuff. to me it just seems like there a tad bit LAZY to actually go out and do some good. i look up to celebs who take time out of their schedule to make it be known that they are helping the world with their own hands.

For Richer of For Poorer
I understand that money is a very big deal, and it will always be that way. That is a definite fact.
Some may say being rich is always better, while others argue that poor is the way to be. However, the grass will always be greener on the other side.
Being rich gives you more opportunities. I want to be rich so that my children will have everything that I never did. I have worked hard for everything I own. Most people think that daddy bought it for me. If I ever wanted anything growing up, my dad would never just give it to me so simply. I had to earn it. That is one thing that I hope to teach my children as they get older.
Being poor does teach you a lot of things though. You learn to appriciate what you have. You also learn how to be very resourceful. I was taught never to waste anything that could be used at a later time. I am very thankful for the small things in life. Being able to stop for a second to smell the roses is worth more than anything in the world. The little things that money can't buy mean the most to me.
In conclusion, I would have to state that it is okay to be rich, and it is definitely okay to be poor.
Being rich at heart is a quality that no one could ever put a price tag on.

I know how the law enforcement system works, the judicial system, and the rest of its tentacles. The only problem is that what it stands for only works a bit more then half of the time. To tell you the truth there will never be any perfect type of government, law enforcement, structure of a belief and disbelief arguments. I came from where I came from and that is how we are treated around here. This is my so called cave, but in a reality form. To escape my cave I have to take a stand for what I think is wrong reflecting upon how I grew up and was molded to be this way so I can be a victim to the revolving door that supports this countries bailout towards the financial imperialist republic of wall street. This is how I feel about my situation, and not yours. Your disagreement is reflective upon how you were raised and yes the state services do provide a sense of security and safety. But discrimination still exist today, and it does impact our beliefs on how the system should work. I just don't like to be herded around like sheep. Challenging life's certainty and influence upon knowledge is my escape from my so called cave.
Their you go Mr. H that is my Cave response.

Yesterday's discussion was quit interesting. I would never have expected debating whether the poor was better than the rich. Unfortunately I wound up on the poor side. It wasnt that bad because there are so much quailities that the less fortunate have than those who are fortunate. The world is not fair and everybody knows it. The rich will get richer and the poor will be more poor. The widening of this gap has been taking place since centuries ago. Some could say that capitalism is to blame but I think its about someones character that brings equality to this world. Yes, I want to be rich someday but I will not be a typical rich person that doesnt give a damn about anything else besides the perfect world that they live in. Growing up my parents and grandparents struggled but I see their determination and success yet keep humble and knowing where they came from. I was socialized into a person that is willing to give because I never had. Through struggle there will be no progress and I think thats what the world needs today. I wish through the time and education system people would see that everyone struggles all around the world and those who can help would. Learning true values and have a character. Im still want to think that there are some good people in this world and the good will prevail over evil. POSITIVE THINKING.... POSITIVE THINKING....

The discussion that we had in class was interesting. It sucked that my side of the classroom had to aruge for the rich. If i was on the poor side i would have more ideas. But i think my side did surprisingly well for having to be the snobby stuck up people. I think both sides argued that judging people isnt fair. THe poor people accused the rich people of judging them and the rich people accused the poor people of judging them.
Their has to be good to have bad. The balance between the 2 revolves around mankind’s ideology, and influence upon its mass societies around the globe. There must be a figure structure of certainty to unite a mass into one. Therefore their will always have to be a figure of power, discipline, and influential wisdom to provide a sense of control and progress. Personal progress, and achievement will always rule us over everything else. To achieve for gain of wealth, power, respect, and capital will always off balance one’s actual responsibility regarding their situation and position in life. Greed plays a vital role in societies progress, and the progress of mankind in general. Greed is a sense of motivation to achieve a higher level. Because to achieve for one self’s desires is how we progress in life and shaping who we are. How you are influenced and raised to believe has a lot to do with how you achieve these goals. Greed can be directly or passively and you wouldn’t even know it. It happens in your everyday agenda, and greed upon your self to overrule another desire even occurs. Hopefully this all makes sense to you but it sure makes sense to me. Let’s move on to currency.
Symbolism is everything about being recognized and respected for what you earned in life and achieved. Currency is a type of symbolism that holds a very desirable value. Currency can represent anything that has value. Legal tender is the currency that give us access to the use of tools that the society or government we live in provides us with. Money is a physical interpretation of an individual, or nations progress among others. To gain is always better than to lose, or not gain anything at all. What we have to do in life to ensure our survival and progression is to accumulate as much as possible. The road of accumulation for progress has long been mankind’s parasite to equality, peace, and united prosperity.
We are blind from our true meanings in life due to life’s actual responsibilities and events. Our responsibilities are shaped by what we are imposed to live by under an authority that provides us control and security. But to be man we are able to make our own decisions at free will under scrutiny. We are also capable of using that free will to benefit our own personal gain. The manipulated use of media, business, and politics is the sole creator of modern day occurrence of status anxiety. Everyday we are passively infected by the use of media, business, and politics to either ensure us of our status in society, and progress. It can be the status between you and your family, or your group of friends and beyond.
When men grow to such a high position of responsibility and power they must know how to use it for a united gain. But to ensure your own progression you must always desire a little more than the rest. This assures you of your status among others. Whether it is the gain of money, knowledge, or possessions the sign of significant accumulation is the symbol of power, respect, and wealth. This is mankind’s natural instinct to survive.
From this the seed is planted, and branches grow. Each branch represents a status in society. The status can be anything from reflective upon wealth, and the significance of your personal knowledge and beliefs. Enough with my free writing of how I interpret the era we live in. Lets talk about the three main branches that represent the society I live in. Each branch represents where you are in the public eye and what you are limited to achieve. This might not sound true in writing, but if you think of about our everyday judgment towards each other it is relative. How we are labeled can be determined by how we are dressed, what we own, and our use of linguistics. These labels are how we are controlled, and divided to eliminate the chance of unification for a just cause. These labels are masterminded by the very people and descendent of men that created our democracy and country. Totally taking advantage of the Constitution’s understanding of freedom.
Knowledge is the key to success and progress, and how you use it represents what you stand for and what you are against. The argument between private educations over public education totally relates to this statement. The highly educated of society set these invisible boundaries by limiting what the undereducated can do. Therefore this also limits their chance of gaining a higher education. How someone treats you, or doubts your capability really hurts your emotions, and confidence. This can form in many ways, but it is the main cause for me to want to give up, and yield the progress of my status in society to just settle for nothing now. America is built upon dreams of equality and prosperity towards all individuals rich or poor. Well at least this is how the rest of the world use to view us as.
If you come from nothing, but a wore torn country where do you end up at. If you cross the border to seek a better life you start from nothing, but the decision you just made. You inducted into the lower class just like education. How you communicate and tread these roads determines how far you make it up the ladder. You are asked to follow a certain road to gain significance in life, but then allured by another’s action and desire to shift you from your search for meaning. Then you are punished for being an individual to make that decision to live your life not controlled by society. These allures can be positive or negative. Whether it be joining a gang, or fighting crime. Crime is yet just another label. The severity of the crime is also reflected upon your status in society. A man who has gained all his life, and earned his stripes by wealth will always have the benefit of the doubt. Compared to a man who has been inducted into the system, and now walks life with the label of a criminal that limits his capability to make amends in society.
Everyone is a puppet, but that one percent at the top. We are all used to inflict damage upon our selves, and create tensions. The act of discrimination is the prerequisite to dominance upon another individual, or society. The labels provided created by society’s influences contribute to the discrimination towards each other as humans. The lower class, middle class, and upper class are the branches of knowledge and progress. The highly knowledgeable manipulate these branches against each other to passively control the structure of society. Money is the key symbol of progress in life and power. Therefore money will always rule the amount of control, and power for the variable it is applied to. American society has perfected the use of influence, and desire to passively control the masses. Without them even knowing it.
To escape these boundaries one must know what is right from wrong even if the occurring solution provides a positive instance. People who live poor are free from these boundaries. Their main concern is their own survival, and support of their family. To submit your self to cheap labor just so you can provide for your kids to have a better life is not an act of giving up on your self. Many parents submit them selves into these situations. But society doesn’t want their progress. More for all is less individually. So then they use their submission to provide for their kids as an advantage to make profit. The few who make it will always understand, but the ones who are born to it will never accept their presence. So you either forget everything you believed in when you earned your wage, or you can be discriminated against for caring about the rest of us south of your manufactured prosperity. I would like to go on further there is so much more to cover but I am tired. Sorry for leaving you in the middle of no where.
Quiz #? 8 I guess. This documentation is just everywhere. If someone can sum up or interpret what I'm saying I'm sure it will click. Maybe one day when I am old and grumpy I can write a book about Population control by the use of money, power, and status. The only one at fault here is the use of free will.
Ok I think I might have to comment back on this cop hating subject. Sure when you are doing wrong you must comply, and if you don't well then your asking for it. But it does upset you when you know its just harassment due to your skin color, and image. Law Enforcement is here to protect and serve. These men and women risk their lives everyday doing what they can to protect us. But these men and women are also impacted by how they've grown up. This contributes to certain decisions they make. Their is always a negative to a positive. It comes with the package straight up battery included even if you don't want it. What a police officer stands for is great, but how he interprets how someone falls under a violation, or act of crime is different to every police officer. When an individual does not live or experience the struggle and life of another it is hard on how to tackle a situation. Most are heavily influenced by their training and judgmental reasoning that they are blinded from logic, and just plain common sense when trying to resolve a situation. This leads to wrongful abuse, wrongful incarceration, wrong death, suicide by police aggression, and violation of the 1st amendment. There is no good or bad cop. Just the one that does his job, and one that is controlled by his job to manufacture capital for the state by anyways mean. Unfortunately for me I have experienced more of the puppetry enforcement then the actual service of law enforcement. Therefore I stand by my views upon police. To back up my examples I suggest you look for pictures of the civil rights movements in the south that we're peaceful, and still got scrutinized by law enforcement. Those actions shaped what law enforcement is now today. We are all puppets of the machine, and if we don't show hatred and aggression towards what we believe is wrong there will never be change. To take things lightly is to just lay dormant all your life obliging by societies generic course to success and wealth. The list doesn't stop, and to contribute more to my anger towards cops is due to the fact the use of racial slurs and stereotyping towards a individual like what they have so often always do mention one racial slur towards me. I'm sorry for offending you Kayla, but my label has bolder ink then your does.

To Jenny I pray your baby develops well and is born beautiful and healthy. If you don't mind my asking how far along are you?
To Orlando You got me thinking about what my dad thinks and all these bunch of questions I had forget to ask him while growing up but I wanted to share that I asked him "WHAT DO YOU SEE IN ME WHEN YOU LOOK AT ME? guess what he told me "I SEE MY LITTLE PRINCESS" and it reminded me of what you wrote in your essay of how you will always there for your daughters. I have always known my dad to do the same but sometimes girls need a reminder of how truely special they are. Thanks for bringing it up.
Our class on Tuesday really got me thinking of how the rich and poor think of each other. To be honest both sides are very bias and have very clueless assumptions about the other. For instance Nam said that all rich people are spoon fed and had have everything handed to them. That their education, success, and happiness was bought. Sure that may be true for a certain % of rich people but not ALL of them are/were like that. Matter of fact im sure most rich people worked for their wealth and success either through education or becoming a shrewd business person that only cares about their net profit and not the collateral damage that they cause to get it. But to look on the other side of the fence, i came up with a general assumption of "poor" people, by saying that everyone that is poor is a criminal. Sure a certain % are, but the majority isn't. Most of "poor" people are honest hard working men and women that bust their ass to just stay afloat. Ive said this in the past, NO matter what there will always be hate in the world, cause the average population needs to be able to put blame on another person, or people need to see other people's struggles and failures to make them feel better about themselves.
Oh man and to continue some more. Why am I not done. Mr. Hsiao mentioned in our class it takes a certain person to become something. To be a counselor, to help people, to be a police officer it all takes a certain to become something. Police officers earn a living risking their lives. That is the risk they take. What they stand for and enforce also has its repercussions. I do not hate cops because they are bad human beings, or not great people. I "despise" them because of who they work for, and the inconsistency of who they work for. What we have to do to earn a living always has a price to pay. Man's use of ideology is the main punishment that effects everyone. What they do at work they leave at work, and what they do at home they leave at home. When they are at work they are vulnerable, and that is part of the job. Face it. If people did not challenge police and authority they would be all out of jobs.
And the funny thing is....
Everything I say on this blog is manufactured by the fear and paranoia that is passively imposed upon societies vulnerable. The thing is we are all vulnerable in different ways. Mine is the fact that I think it is everyone against me ,myself ,and I. That is my problem and slowly my opinions keep evolving as I find better reasoning on everything that has occurred in my lifetime.

The discussion that we had in class on tuesday was very interesting to me because I got to be in the Rich side of the discussion. I do not really supported either side but I just went along with it. What I learn out of it is that neither side can judge the other. One should not judge a book by its cover. We also should not generalize or group everyone into a catagory just because they look rich or poor. The poor need to stop worrying about the rich and instead they should do something for themselves that will get them out of poverty. The rich well if they can stay rich good job and they most be doing something right to still remain rich so no one can judge. People should just live their lives with what you have and if you want more than work for it.I dont think anyone has the Right to Judge.

This week we had a discussion about the rich and the poor. My opinion is that their are pros and cons about being both. The poor have less but have much more to gain. Having less materialistic items makes the poor focus on more important things like family and friends. Instead of dad sitting down and watching football on his big HD t.v.,he can take his children to the park and play football with them. All i am saying poor people aren't easy distracted by materialistic things that are suppose to make you happy.Poor people come stronger in values and virtues than rich people because life is harder for them.

Regarding our discussion on tuesday, the poor vs. the rich. I've come to realize that when it comes down to it both sides are wrong. Just like racisim, racists hate a particular race because of a past experience with someone of that race and do to that incident that racist automattically believes that all people of that race are that way and this is what breeds stereo types. I have experienced this on a first hand basis, when I tell people I am half mexican people really have asked if I do lawns or do I have a huge family of wich all live in my house or what gang do I belong too. Not only does this annoy the S*#T out of me, it disappoints me because they have actually meet mexicans that do those things and those individuals ruin everything for the rest of us. On the other hand i have also be stereotyped for being half hawaiian, most ask if I like spam(yes I do), Do you smoke weed(no comment), do you surf(too big), can you play the ukelele(yes, but is that a prerequisit?), do you eat pigs from the ground, is everyone your cousin? My point is stereotypes ruin everything for everyone else so if poor dudes ask for money it might not be because they want to buy drugs or liquor, it really might be for something else but public unofficial statistics show that most poor dudes do buy those things when they are given money. These steroetypes also effect the rich, they are labeled as selfish, conceted, good for nothing, ungreatful people. Not all wealthy people are like this but again from public experience people spread word that all rich are like this so when the good rich people come into contact with someone thier personality is automatically assumed.

Poor vs. rich
There are pros and cons about both of these. When you have the ability to buy whatever you want whenever you want you feel like you are on top of the world. It feels like you are somone important. My whole life I have been "rich". My mom was not wealthy but gave me whatever I wanted whenever I wanted it. It was basically the same thing as being rich because I had no limit to money or possetions. My senior year I was cut off and had to work for everything. It was a complete 180 and it was horrible. I had to get a job and pay for EVERYTHING. I now know what they ment when they said "poor college student". I have been on both sides of this argument and neither of them are better than the other. It is nice to be rich but I think people appriciate things a lot more when they buy them themselves. People that do not have all the money in the world seem to value things a lot more.

the discussion on tuesday about rich and poor was interesting, it was hard for me to be on the rich team cus if have gotten to chose i would argue the poor side instead. no one realy won i think, mainly because we didnt realy get to trully argue about it. if we're gonna have a discussion like that one we should get to use the whole class time to do it so people can say everything they have to say, a lot of times someone has something to say but get cut off because of the time issue (nam in particular)....but back to the discussion...i have to partly agree with nelson on his point about the poor appreciating things better and focusing on their family more...but then its goes to people prejudism or perception about the rich and the poor. rich people will see themselfs with better moral n virtues because of their status, they will see the poor as lazy, non-productive member of society because on their eyes if u wanna make something of yourself all u have to do is work hard..on the other hand poor people will see rich people as snoby, stuck up and selfish. i dnt know wat the right answer or conclusion to the argument is(maybe theres none) who r we to judge the rich and poor? its to broad of a subject to nail down with one answer, if we talked about individuals then it would be easier but we arent.....

the discussion/debate/splitting the class in two was very good. however, to me it seemed like both sides were trying to generalize the other group's (or their own group's) persona. which kind of led out of the discussion. overall, i think both sides made valid points. i do not think there will ever be a common ground between rich and poor because of stereotypes.

In relation to our class discussion, I can toss my $.02 in. Due to my grandfather raising me, I was never really poor. He's retired twice from Edison and has double benefits. Just like Natalie said, I would get something whenever I wanted it, as is still today as now I get SSI from the government. I am far from materialistic. I believe that the condition I'm in has taught me to not be materialistic, and to be very grateful. I know not to take what I have for granted, because if I didn't have such "economic status", I be much worse off since I do realize there are limits to my physical capabilities when it comes to the world. Obviously I can't play basketball or run and jump through the jungle gym in the playground, or if I were to look for a job, I couldn't climb up a ladder for maintenence or such.
As I grow old this becomes more evident, and I am to some extent grounded (literally and metaphorically).
40 minutes left before class starts, how many more Cypress?
Keep it up.
Good work thusfar everyone.

Debate RICH vs POOR
When I found out that we were doing debates and Mr. Hsiao split us up, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement. I love debates, for I learn a lot about both sides of the argument. Especially this debate; I have to say that both sides had good arguments [even though the Rich won! :O :P]. I was on the Rich side and it was kind of hard for me to act like a snob; it's not me. Although, once I got into character, I was able to find quotes and counter-arguments against the "Poor" team; we unloaded on them. Thanks again for not keeping a dull moment in class Mr. Hsiao.

Poor vs Rich
Regarding the debate/discussion...I think that it could have gone forever booth the rich side n poor side had good points. It all comes down to how the rich see the poor, and how the poor see the rich. The rich see the poor as being lazy an a burden to society, the poor see the rich as peolpe who are selfish and worry about themselfs only. This argument could go on and on....... I agree with the people that said the poor who become weathier appreciate their status more than those born in it. Money isnt everything is just a matter of survival

Nelson,
"Having less materialistic items makes the poor focus on more important things like family and friends." - Nelson
I concur. Rich or weathly people tend to have more going on their life. Often strung thin, its hard to fully give adequate attention to each area requring need. Though being rich may open increased opportunities, those who are of a much lower income bracket are not subject to an obsolete chance. But ultimately no matter what side the train tracks we come from, those little intrusions to our life take away what really means most to us.
For the poor, they live day by day, getting by with ends meat but have tight family ties. The rich, financialy are secure, but ghostly traits of family are unassured. Each are balanced; graduates of one but first graders of the other.
Just a thought: what about those in the middle? The middle class. I see these as the "jack of all trades, masters at none." Content.

I wanted to apologize to you about walking out in the middle of a great speaker, AMADOR, and i didnt mean to offend anyone. i had to apologize because i felt like a jerk for just walking out. My apologies once again.

Wow!The debate in class was quite interesting. I enjoyed it myself, but it was difficult for me to go along with my role as a wealthy citizen. I know I tend to be quiet in my class. I was very close to speaking up but I waited to long. I am working on trying to become more involved with the class, but back to the debate. I remember someone saying something about how wealthy people dont have God in their lives? Well that is what i understood. To that comment i would like to say that, that is not true. Not only are they stereotyping but they are only assuming. I could say a lot more about this statement, but I will just save it for later; in case we continue this conversation or debate in class.

all of my classes with mr H are fun and cool but this Wednesday class was so funny when the girl that are going for homecoming came in to class (we were their first class to go to so you you know they were nervous) but it was funny when they were introduce them self cause some of them didn't know their number and one of them looked at their paper for the last name because she for got it. OH what was really FUNNY was when michael was waving bye but it looked like he was raising his hand and then they call him and he says "OH NO I WAS JUST WAVING BYE" it was funny the whole class was laughing loud and i laughing hard that i started crying and that was the first time i ever cried by laughing.
Another thing i liked was the Class sang HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me cause its on the 10th but when they sang it i wanted to cry because i felt loved, accepted and recognized for once, but also i was turning really red. I WANT TO THAT THE CLASS FOR THAT MOMENT AND SINGING TO ME. to me i feel comfortable in this class and see them like a kind as a family when we are in class. THANKS AGAIN

TO ALL MY LADY CLASSMATES
SO I WENT TODAY TO QUIZNOS FOR MY LUNCH BRAKE AND THE TWO GIRLS WORKING THERE WERE SO MEAN AND RUDE TO ME, AND I DIDNT EVEN DO ANYTHING! AND WAT HURT ME IS THAT THEY WERE SUPER NICE TO MY FRIEND. I ALWAYS HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH GIRLS, THEY JUST NEVER LIKE ME. LIKE WHEN I GO SHOPPING OR ANYWHERE THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO BE MEAN TO ME. WELL I GUESS WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS DO I REALLY LOOK THAT MEAN OR SOMETHING, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG,IM REALLY A NICE PERSON. WELL HOPE EVERYONE IS HAVING A NICE DAY.
THIS WEEK I'VE BEEN SEEING SO MANY BUMS ON THE STREET, ESPECIALLY ON MY WAY TO WORK, AND I FEEL SO BAD I WISH I HAD MONEY TO HELP THEM. BUT I NOTICED HOW ALL OF THEM HAVE BIG CARTS FULLY LOADED WITH BOTTLES AND CANS AND I THOUGHT TO MYSELF, DAMN THESE PEOPLE REALLY RECYCLE, AND THIS IS ALL THEY DO JUST RECYCLE TO GET A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY TO BUY WATEVER IT IS THEY BUY.I THINK THEY'RE IN A WAY DOING US A FAVOR BY CLEANING THE STREETS, AND RECYCLING SO MUCH, BECAUSE A LOT OF US DONT RECYCLE,SO NEXT TIME YOU SEE A BUM GIVE THEM A DOLLAR OR UR SPARE CHANGE BECAUSE THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING GOOD FOR THIS EARTH, EVEN IF THEY DONT MEAN TO DO GOOD, THEY STILL ARE IN A WAY. SO I DONT KNOW I JUST HAD THAT THOUGHT IN MY HEAD.

My hatred
My hatred, how will we ever stop the hate in this world??? i alway ask myself this mainly due to the fact that its really the only thing left of my old self that i thought i killed off. My whole childhood was horrible, grim, and cold a never ending cycle of pain where every where i went i was persacuted to the point that i felt that my only true friend was my hate itself. For a long period of time i was alone, depressed, enraged, and sorrowful and to tell you the truth in the end i wouldent have wanted all of it any other way. one may ask themselfs "who in there right mind would want a childhood like that???". To me in order for me to personally have a great childhood i would of had to give up all my morals and values that i had earned along the the way of the life i had lived and to me that would be a ignorant dicision. One can not truly value the small, amazing things in life until they have lost it or have never actually experianced it and to me when i finnaly earned a friend it was one of the most extrodinary feelings in life. In my eyes a relationship of any sort is worth more then anything on this planet. Many find it funny when they find out im only seventeen due to the fact that ive matured a little quicker then others my own age but honestlly i had to go through hell and back to earn the drive and ideas i have today. Finnaly even over a period of time i may have become stronger and more of a man but the one thing that still remains of my old self is my hate which i fear will never leave. This feeling of anger, frustration, and hatred will never leave me because to me it is a scar that will forever remind me of my past and what i kind of journey it life trully is. I have finnaly opened my eyes and seen the world for what it, one big test to see if you will be a victom or creator. Theres this verse from one of my favorit bands that is so meaningful to me and it goes "life feels like hell should but this hells so cold, pull another knife out and stick it with the rest of them when i back is full and turn me around again". Basically what its saying is that backstabbing can make this life a living hell but you know what by just standing there and complaing one is just allowing oneself to become another whining victom. what they are saying is that just take the pain and keep moving. all of these unfair problems in life are what taught me to hate but for me its a way of life so in the end all that there is to say is that ones ember of hatred can never be trully extingueshed because the things in life will never stop fueling it. all you can do in this life is learn to live with it just as i have and with that friendship that you value so much it might just be a little easier then you think.

Alex:
Aww sweetie you are loved by the class. we are your family and we will always accept you. in any shape, way or form. ♥
Araceli:
I hate girls like that. when i was in high school i only had 1 best friend and she was a girl. i always get along better with dudes and i used to cry cause all those girls had girlfriends, and slumber parties and stuff. and then i figured out it was because im bisexual so they felt weird probably. and not only that but my mommy used to say, "girls hate on other girls because they know that the other girl (being you) is prettier than she is. and she cant live with that. =] so smile sweetie. cause some girls are just shady and others dont like you because of your sexuallity. which is my case lol. but its ok everyone in class loves you!!
as for the subject on RICH & POOR. poor people are rich and rich people are poor. done.
why? well im speaking emotionally wise. because poor people have all the love and support from their family. rich people dont have any of it because their children become distant after their parents are always working for them, and they part from the family little by little. the end.
COPS
I agree with Nizzle 120%
im sorry that had to happen to my best friend AMADOR but cops are not all bad. some take advantage of their athority and they become big headed but for the most part, they have balls. to go out and arrest a gang member, knowing that the whole gang is going to be after that cop and his family is big. they do protect us. and im not all for them but i do support what they do. (they do take it overboard) but they protect us. i dont hate the law...but they did mess up on the Amador situation. that wasnt right at all.
