In addition, for the title, pick the topic of discussion, grammar/organization, content, current events, pop culture or literature as a TITLE that we have discussed in class. Write the posts like this: write #1 Post or #2 Post or Post #50, so I can easily keep track of them and how many you write.
Of course, you are welcome to write more than several posts, and in doing so is another form of participation and does count in the participation grade. Perhaps, in class, you may not participate all that much but in the realm of the blogosphere, you can from the comfort of your own home,
* reflect on the day's class discussion or offer up an insight that you found particularly interesting, etc., etc.
*
* How does it change the way you think or thought before on the subject?
*
* What actions might you take in the future? Anything is open to interpretation.
Of course, I need not go on and on about being respectful towards your peers' opinions and beliefs. If you disagree with another student's views be discreet about it: Do not say so and so is completely wrong because of this and that. Instead, say, I disagree with so and so and here are the reasons why I do. Go after their evidence and support and do not, I repeat do not attack someone else personally. This is supposed to be a forum for everyone to share their ideas and views.
*I will enforce the blogosphere by either deleting your hard work, making an example out of you here in the realm of the blogosphere or in class* . . .

Celina, thank you for your compliments on my parenting! I do the best I can with my 3 children, and it's not always easy! I realized last week that being both Mommy and Daddy to my kids is physically, mentally, and emotionally tiring... but so worth it! I am there with them to help them get through it all. They are a very energetic little trio, but I wouldn't trade my time with them for anything! Thank you again Celina for your compliments, it is so refreshing to hear that someone thinks I am doing a good job with my kids!!
Jenny, I hope you're daughter is feeling better! I know it's so hard when your baby is sick, they're so helpless! When mine get sick now it's a little easier, but i really hated them being sick as babies! When mine were sick as babies I just remember sleeping in my recliner holding them a certain way so they would sleep comfortably. I hated the stiff neck I got, but when they slept, it was well worth it.

Question: Why is a filet mignon wrapped in bacon so delicious and irresistible?
Hypothesis: It is so exquisite because it is the most tender part of the cow and when the juices of the salty and flavorful bacon seep in, it become even more mouthwatering.
Question: Why do I have it for every birthday and special occasion and how does this represent my personality and culture?
Answer: As far as I can remember, I have always gone to a steak house for my birthday and I always ordered the filet mignon wrapped in bacon. This dish holds a special place in my heart. The succulent juices never cease to amaze my taste buds, year after year. In my eyes, the filet mignon represents wealth and prosperity, it is the most desirable part of the cow due to its extreme tenderness. Generally, it is one of the most expensive things on the menu which is why it directly relates to wealth. The wealth of the filet mignon does not stop at its price, because for years of my life it has been the symbol of bringing the people of my family together in celebration. Wealth and prosperity have been the goals of generally every person who has lived. Though family and other values are on this list at different ranks, wealth and prosperity are the foundations of the American Dream. Every time I am able to eat the delicious filet mignon, I realize that there is some one out there who feels the same about a hamburger or someone who feels this way about every thing they eat because of their poverty. Realizing your luck for your situation and being thankful of it has always been an important value taught by my mother. Throughout my life there have been times where we could not afford the filet mignon but these times made me three times as thankful the next time I was able to eat it. What I am particularly thankful for currently, is my boyfriend’s job at the Beef Palace butcher shop. Almost every night we have steak, chicken or pork of the highest quality but rarely do we have the filet mignon. I want the filet mignon to hold that special place in my heart as a rare delicacy for only special occasions.

QHQ Food, Culture, and Identity
Question: Why are TAMALES so satisfying and delicious?
Hypothesis: Tamales come in many different flavors, which give’s you a better selection when determining the mood you are in, weather you want something sweet, spice, or both at the same time. Your taste buds experience an explosion of flavors when combined two different flavors of tamale’s at the same time. Therefore, I usually eat a chicken, corn, mole, pork, beans’ with cheese or jalapeno with cheese (rajas con queso) and follow it with a sweet one.
Question: How does my favorite food (tamales) represent part of my identity and culture?
Answer: As you must all know, tamales are traditional from Mexico but very famous around the world. The word tamales, carries a lot of meaning to me, because it represents a little bit of where I came from. Indeed, when you mostly hear the word tamales automatically think of Mexican food. That gives me a lot of pride, because this typical plate is very well known and comes from my native land. The delightful smell of tamales is irresistible and brings back a lot of memories. In fact, when talking about tamales I start reminiscing about some of the wonderful childhood memories I can recall. In our family, tamales were mostly made in special occasions like birthday parties, family gatherings and holidays, but now are made when ever in the mood for a delightful experience of flavors. This was mainly because of the laborious job that comes about when making them, and the insufficient funds we had when living in Mexico. In deed, in Mexico you had to make the dough from scratch not like here where you can buy it all ready made and still tastes delicious. The dough it self takes a lot of work and time, because you have to keep stirring it as you add all the ingredients and can’t stop until it is completely fluffy. Then you add the dough to the corn husk and smear it evenly. Then, finally add the main ingredient like the chicken with green salsa, the pork meat with red salsa, the pieces of pineapples or a whatever you are making them of. In addition, you wrap them up not allowing for any of the ingredients to come out then, you place them in the pot to cook. The placement of the tamales on the pot has its own procedure to follow; add about three cups of water to the bottom of the pot, then placing a ceramic plate or something that can hold the tamales and will prevent them from touching the water, then you finally place them one by one by working your self from the edges of the pot to the middle, you then add a piece of cloth on top of the tamales so that you can retain all the steam possible, and seal them with the top, as you turn on the fire at a low position (they take a lot of work). The most popular time to make them was during Christmas, because the whole family would get together. In deed, a lot of my childhood memories are during family gatherings, especially during Christmas, when the whole family got together. I still remember watching my grandma, aunts, older cousins, and mom standing around the table as they took turns preparing the bunch of tamales. Every one in the kitchen was engaged in the multiple conversations that were going and everyone would talk at the same time, while cooking the tamales. Indeed, this is one of the main reasons why I consider tamales as a form of representing my identity. In deed, I value family and feel every time is a good time to be round loved ones. Even though I don’t have a lot of my family members here in the United States I still feel that we are somehow connected with them, when making our traditional tamales during Christmas. I also relate with tamales because even though they are time consuming and take a lot of work to make, in the end they are all worth the effort. Like my personality, it might take some time and effort to really get to know me, but ones you do you won’t regret it. And also the fact that tamales are fluffy like ME!!!

(I will post this in various posts because it is loooooooong!)
The Fourth Floor
When one first steps into the club like elevators, the blue light transfixes the eyes. Our elevator did not go up probably because of all of our weight, which I proclaimed that we must have gotten the retarded one. Ha ha, all levity aside, nevertheless, we opened up to the fourth floor: pop, folk, classical, and jazz music greeted us. This table with many students putting on the headphones with a gigantic-like-Ipod Touch screen captivated many—demonstrating times and places how music has evolved. The spotlight is given to various music genres and how they became multi-varied and shaped its legacy to come. The archival data showcased over five decades of hard work, grit, opportunity, and fortune for those that graced these displays. There was a sit down theater, in which, Michael Jackson was honored with showing vintage as well as contemporary speeches. His was so genuine in its message, and I saw students return again and again to watch. His outfits were on display in the back wall showcasing MJ’s flair and cache of the 80s.
The Third Floor
Interaction can be best described in this floor. Most of the students partook of the stage with the drums, bass, and guitars. The stage immediately drew them in. Many different groups and members changed places. A lot of singing was going on as well, which I was very glad to witness, right Cianna, Samantha S., and Janice. The drumming by Samantha N.’s baby was adorable. I loved hearing the tap, tap, tap. Tom was asking Yue to show her skills, which she relented because she did not want to put everyone to shame! Right, Yue? It was enjoyable watching the practicing going on.
Step inside the third floor, and there are eight pods, which allows you to experience all the different intricacies of the recording process. Walking into a pod with Amador and his commenting on how this is elementary made me laugh. Of course to someone who is trained in the art versus, however, to the novice, it is new. I was privy to seeing the GWC group represent Nelly’s “Stepped on my J’s.” It was truly enjoyable hearing them really get into it as well as Tom chiding everyone to sing the refrain, especially Jon. Jon’s quote that Cianna repeated was hilarious: “’ drunk british muppet trippin’ on helium’” and classic. It will stay with me for a good long while.
Then, there was the wall of infamous producers and their effect on artists. What I got from watching examples like Jimmy Iovine get impressed with Eminem performance at the 1997 Rap Olympics and playing a tape for Dr. Dre, giving Eminem his break and starting Dre and Eminem’s collaboration is that everything happens in a synergistic way, and nothing happens in a vacuum. Perhaps, that is why even the artifacts as gloried as their stories were, were not quite the same without the artist wearing and or utilizing them. Kanye’s outfits next to Jennifer Lopez’s were not the same. Many commented on how J.Lo. was so petite and her outfit was see-through or how Kanye’s outfit seemed so stiff and uptight.
A lot of my students commented on that fact. Artists are a result of their times, the people that support them, fans, their music, and the interrelationship between all these forces. Just like we will never see another Elvis, we will not see another Michael Jackson in our lifetime. The search for the Holy Grail is representative of finding that next “it” star. And many artists vie for that very elusive title. Sitting down and watching how sound evolved throughout the half century was very progressive and interesting as well as watching some of the past Grammy award winners. Frank Sinatra with his coolness and charm discuss the prestige and status of a Grammy or Babyface playing with Stevie Wonder or Aretha Franklin tearing the house down with her tremendous vocals. It was nice having students like Jean Carlo, Kevin, and Andy sit down and enjoy the various performances.
Second Floor
The mini movie theatre with Beyonce and Tina Turner collaborating was memorable. Seeing Beyonce giddy with childlike glee with her dream of performing next to her childhood idol was thought provoking. I enjoyed watching them collaborate and teach and learn from each other with their various practices leading up to the 50th Grammy Awards. It really was a behind the scenes look because intermingled between the spotlight on them, were producers, directors, and focusing on other acts and their preparation. Tina Turner remarking that Beyonce looked better when Tina was her age, and Beyonce not taking the compliment, it was awesome. The performance from its very inception to its end was great.
First Floor
It was funny how everyone after bowling, drinking, and eating at Lucky Strike waited for the bus on this floor. It was hot outside. Also the misadventures of the taking the elevator up as well. . .

Alondra Hot Wings
First, thank you, Jessica for recommending this place. Edilu, I enjoyed it, yes!
Jessica, I saw you walking around asking people to try the Atomic Hot Sauce—not going to happen. The fries I ordered already were already spicy. The food and service were great! I enjoyed looking to see what everyone ordered. Everyone had different foods: Philly cheese steak, Sausage n’ peppers, N.Y. hot dog, Boston pastrami, the classic B.L.T., Steak caesar sandwich, Fried tomatoes (I will come back for those), Ranch blasted fries, Buffalo chicken strips, the named moniker Hot Wings, and there were even some salads! I did not think there was anything remotely healthy. One of my students said, “Absolutely, just say no mayo or Caesar dressing on your salad!”. There was pizza too just similar to what Monique discussed, naming of infamous gangsters: “the Godfather, Bugsy, Luciano, Bonnie & Clyde, Gotti, etc.” The desserts of a deep fried twinkie will be in my dreams as I cannot afford eating that because of my training!
Deep frying a twinkie?!
Leydi, thank you for you and Veronica, offering dough balls to everyone!
Wow, what a place. . .

Bus Driver, Mr. Wooly Johnson,
He was great was he not? Thank you Tom for the recognition! He was a gentleman. Waiting for us to get on the bus and then getting on himself. He handled the traffic with aplomb—ignoring those who cut him off. He also took the best roads to and from L.A. LIVE. Even he succumbed to getting some Alondra Hot Wings’ even though he said he was full. He said that he would get some for later.

Shout outs and Thank you's
Recognition is where recognition is due: Thomas Rios—thank you for your stand-up routine the entire ride home and asking everyone to give me applause. I appreciate it all.

Thank you for those students who had to drive up to Alondra Hot Wings or the Grammy Museum.

Lucky Strike
It was nice watching my students bowl, drink, and relax after a full day. You were right, Kayla, and Tom, the waitresses/servers were not that attentive or focused. I will just leave it at that. . .
It was nice watching Veronica or Claudia bowl—they were so animated and angry.
Samantha S., I am glad your boyfriend made it up—hopefully you guys enjoyed yourself.

i enjoyed reading both speeches very much. i do favor mlk more as to obamas the fact that to me...mlk was more intense of a speech...granted given the circumstances one was for freedom rights and the other was an acceptance speech but from obamas speech i thought it got stronger and stronger towards the end. the best part of obamas speech was definitely when he brought up the 106 year old lady and he tied that up to the ending of his speech. i enjoyed that very much. just thinking about both speeches is mlk's dream to be free at last and obamas speech stating that we are free now and yes we can be more free kind of thing. well thats how i see it anyway. i thought it was very gracious for obama to thank all his supporters including his wife "best friend for the last sixteen years...the rock of out family and the love of my life and our nations next first lady michelle obama" now the reason why i enjoyed mlk speech was not only because it seemed more intense to me but because of how he put things together like comparing the african americans on receiving a bad check with insufficient funds and now they want to get the right check from the nation that "demands the riches of freedom and the security of justice" i suppose i can say it was symbolic if i may with his word usage as "manacles of segregation and the chasin of discrimination" or "sweltering summer...invigorating autumn" what really got to me was lines 27 to 30. his speech was setting up for when he said "and this will be the day--this will be the day when all of gods children will be able to sing with new meaning: my country tis of thee sweet land of liberty of thee i sing[...]from every mountainside let freedom ring!" it shows the progress we've already countered and obama wants to seek more to it.

Question: Why is chicken curry do tasty?
Hypothesis: It brings back memories of past holidays filled with family.
Question: Why do I always crave chicken curry when family holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas are approaching?
Answer: I love eating my grandma’s homemade food, but my favorite has to be her chicken curry. My grandma makes her famous chicken curry only on special holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas. Those are the two biggest holidays that my family celebrates. It is a time where we throw family dinners and invite our relatives from all over to join us. It is such a joyful time for everyone. It is a chance for all of us to get together, catch up, and eat some amazing homemade food. Even though the other food there is amazing, everyone looks forward to my grandma’s chicken curry. The smell seems to always fill the air and make people want seconds. It is that good. There is this creamy, soft texture that delights everyone’s taste buds. Some people prefer to eat the curry with noodles, rice or bread. Which ever they choose, they know it will be just as satisfying. By the end of the night, everyone is pleased and satisfied with how well the night went. I love how holidays and food bring people closer together. It is like this strong magnetic force that can not be broken. This is definitely a good thing. The smell of chicken curry brings back the joyful memories of the past and gets me excited for the future get-togethers.

QHQ YO!
QUESTION: Why is Priscilla's favorite dish 6oz filet mignon, medium cooked, with a cesar salad before her entree and steak french fries along with her filet mignon?
HYPOTHESIS: The reason behind that may be the fact that she worked at a steakhouse for over a year and got to taste the best of cow heaven!
QUESTION: If it is her favorite dish, why does Priscilla not order it frequently?
ANSWER: I prefer not to order my favorite meal at a constant the fact that it takes away the excitement of eating a well cut steak prepared just to my liking and enjoying it with my french fries. Up until a year and a half ago, I was more of a bacon cheeseburger, pizza kind of girl. Sometimes I would enjoy a good chicken entree as well but then again that was only some times. The times my family and I would go out to eat, either for breakfast lunch, dinner or a small snack, i would always order a bacon cheeseburger. Anytime my mom would cook steak or what ever it may be it was cooked well done. I grew up liking my food to be cooked well. As a kind i enjoyed eating carne asada with squirts of limon on top. The limon would always give the carne that extra kick of flavor due to its charcoal-ness. At the age of 19 i got hired as a hostess at Black Angus Steakhouse. Six months later, I was moved up to a server were I had to familiarize with the all the items on our menu. We had five steaks to offer and for seasonal purposes we would throw in a T-Bone or the Portorhouse Steak for a limited time. While being a server, I was curious as to why the majority of my guest would order there steak rare, medium rare or medium. Hardly any would order medium well or well done. Then i would notice that the less cooked the steak is the guest would not ask for lea and perrins or A1 steakhouse or ketchup or any other condiment to go along with their steak. I noticed that the guest will the well done or extra well done liked to order extra ketchup and needed about two bottles of A1 sauce. Slowly but surely I got myself to order a steak medium well. I tried all the steaks we had medium well. (Not all in one sitting I assure you). I tried the Prime Rib, New York Strip, Top Sirlion, Ribeye and finally the Filet Mingnon. There was something about that darn filet mignon that made me stick to it. So once I was bold enough to go down a level and order it medium cooked, man did it change my taste buds. I no longer needed any salt, ketchup, BBQ sauce or any of that nonsense. just the steak with my steak fries on the side and I was all set. Just the smooth slice cut with the fork and the knife and then the soft chew in my mouth. There was no need to have a steak hanging out from your mouth and pulling it with yours hands to get a good bit in. No. A center-cut 6oz filet mingnon medium cooked. I did not even bother trying having my steak prepared medium rare. I have found what I love and I am going to stay by it!

Q. H. Q.
Question: How do tuna, white rice, and fried plantains go so well together?
Hypothesis: Somehow this Ecuadorian delicacy is quite the combination and delicious anytime.
Question: Why can I eat this combo anytime and how does it represent my personality and me as a person?
It is not just tuna alone. It is tuna with chopped tomatoes, onions, green bell peppers, and Serrano chiles. Topped off with lime juice, olive oil, and a dash of salt and pepper. The rice recipe is one I learned from my mother. It is not made in a rice cooker. It is made from scratch and with love. The other side is fried plantains. In Ecuador they are called “patacones”. This dish is one I can have every day and enjoy it. I remember my mom teaching me how to make it telling me that when I grow up and if I am ever low on funds, tuna and rice is the perfect dish. She would say, “Nunca sabes cuando no vas a tener dinero y tendras que usar lo que tengas” which translates to, “you never know when you will not have money and you will have to use whatever you have.” I always thought that was a sweet thing for her to do to teach me how to survive with the minimal of things. She taught me to improvise. She was right though you never know what life will throw at you. Sometimes there will only be a can of tuna and some vegetables to go with your rice. You have to make the best with the things you are provided. This dish is a mixture of a variety of things that give it a particular flavor that is interesting once you give it a chance. Reminds me of myself. I think I have grown up around so many different people from different countries with different cultures and I have taken some of what is theirs and added it to the dish that is myself.
I think pasta represents me in a number of ways. The most obvious being my Italian heritage. Pasta is most common is Italian meals, the way rice is in Asian cultures and beans in Hispanic cultures. I believe that being half Italian is why I love pasta so much. I also think pasta resembles my personality. It has many different tastes, meaning that it adapts as I do. It can be spicy with a little kick, or attitude. It can be sweet and creamy, warm and welcoming. Its taste is not predictable. Also, it is independent. It can stand alone as a meal, such as spagetti, or can make a wonderful side dish. It can be paired with anything. As well as the fact that there is such a variety of pastas, all shapes and sizes, there is a pasta to please everyone. Sono che cosa mangio, questo alimento sono me; I am what I eat, this food is me. Pasta is the poster food for the big Italian family dinner. It represents eating with a group of people, everyone talking, sharing and laughing together. In a way pasta brings people together. I think this aspects is the closest to my person. I love to be around people. It is very important for me to be surrounded by friends and family, laughing and talking. It is healing for me, and I believe in that way I am like pasta. Our hearts and stomachs are connected as one; i nostri cuori e stomaci sono collegati.

I did not realize I was post #1001 until it posted, yay! Now on to my home work.
First: iFALCON
Positive:
The website has a lot of great tips and strategies to help students do their best. I liked how they had links to all the different resources we have available to us as students. The site was really easy to navigate through. My favorite part of the website was the list of Outstanding Students. I really enjoyed reading about the variety of students who were recognized for their academic achievements, and reading about the variety of backgrounds they all came from.
Negative:
I thought the page was a little bland. I think it is missing that special something that makes a website "pop". I also was a little confused in going through the website. Was the website designed for the Professors, or the students? I feel like it is all just kind of thrown in there.
Overall, I like the whole iFALCON campaign, and I hope to be able to apply the strategies to myself.
Second:
I read the speech by MLK as well as Obama's Speech, and I really enjoyed both of them. I liked reading MLK's speech because of the amount of passion he has in his beliefs. He was a strong, brave, and hopeful man with intense beliefs. He spoke about the changes he believed would happen, and they did. Obama's speech was embracing the changes that have happened throughout history. I liked how he mentioned Ann Nixon Cooper, who was 106 years old. I liked how he mentioned all that she has been through and witnessed first hand of our country's ability to change. Our ability to recover from what seems like the end, and come back stronger. I know there are still problems within the nation when it comes to race, but hopefully, with the beliefs and devotion of our fellow Americans, we can overcome those differences and stop the viscous cycle of racial fights.

Question: Why is every type of shrimp so savory?
Hypothesis: It is an exquisite food that can be cooked, seasoned and ate in different styles to make the taste of shrimp more scrumptious and enchanting.
Question: Why do I think of shrimp as a reward when I eat it and how does it represent my identity?
Answer: When I was younger, my dad worked late shifts to make our evenings he would randomly bring this hot cocktail shrimp cup from this seafood place by his work. The scenery of me with my family sitting in the dinner table enjoying this hot shrimp was gratifying. It felt like a reward because we never really enjoyed each other as much as I would have desired; we would always be doing our own thing. I was always enrolled in school clubs, my parents working in different shifts we would be eat at different times, but having cocktail shrimp seemed to unite us in a peculiar way. The scent that the cocktail shrimp gave the house, created an atmosphere to find my brother and dad making jokes, my mom and me pretending to laugh felt like home. Now I have encountered myself eating and trying new places where shrimp is well known such as Bubba Gump they have every style of shrimp one can desire. I reflect when I go to any restaurant and order shrimp or sometimes I take out as I sit in the table, I recall the time when I was younger cherishing my family with laughter and conversation over a hot cup of cocktail shrimp.
Reading Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech is inspiring. Going through all of the lines and seeing how well it is written blows me away. He hits so many areas that not only speak for the Black community but all non-white US citizens. He gives a quote from our Constitution “Life, Liberty, and pursuit of Happiness” but if we look at the drafts that sentence said “Life, Property, and pursuit of Happiness” At that point in time the constitution was written for the benefit of corporations, plantation owners, wealthy white men. Life, Liberty and pursuit of Happiness was to break away from England not to give American citizens full rights. As time passes we ourselves noticed that slavery was not right and then we began to change it. We slowly started making our states “free “states vs. “slave” states. For some people this was not tolerated most of the southern states and that is where they formed the Confederate states. At one point in history The United States was divided and fought against each other for the freedom of others. Ok back to the speech. Martin Luther King fought so hard for what is right and in a time when it was so hard delivered the words that needed to be heard. “Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred” What is he telling us there?? Not to become like them, do not feed the same hatred they have. “We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force” WOW!! Telling people to not act like they would expect them to, use your head, fight smart, right. When the speech starts to incorporate the words “I have a dream” I get chicken skin and something happens inside of me. I can actually hear his voice and the tone, and confidence in my head. “I have a dream that my four little children sill one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character” That goes for everyone does it not??!! This speech is so moving and can apply to anyone who is fighting segregation, racism, and inequality.
President Barack Obama’s speech. I remember I had class that evening and I did not attend to watch the presidential coverage. I wanted to see history in the making. As President Obama’s numbers/votes kept going up higher and higher my excitement grew as well. It was a win!!! I remember exactly where I sat on my bed, the McDonald’s fish’ filet extra tarter sauce meal I was eating, and pregnant. When he started his speech I remember thinking how amazing is this?? Hearing the crowd yell and shout while he spoke. My eyes began to water but the faucet turned on when he said “I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last sixteen years, the rock of our family and the love of my life, our nations next First lady, Michelle Obama.” How beautiful those words were to me. When President Obama began to speak of Ann Nixon Cooper and how she had witnessed so many bad things and now witnessing history. The words “yes we can” fit so well to the situation and can fit well into other situation. It is great when you can you a key phrase from a speech and apply it to whatever it is you are doing and want to overcome. Knowing that I helped even in a small way to make this historic event possible let me say “yes I can”

Going to meet the Man
Ya, all I can say is wow about this one. I've had my insides twisted while reading Stephen King's novels, but nothing compared to this. My intestines twisted along with how perverse and demonic this passage was. It showed one souirce of how hate and racism spawns in our fickle world. Some of us still don't understand how much of an impact our parents are let alone surroundings have made an impression on us at an early age, just as how Jesse's innocence was disembowled from him as the black person who had nothing at fault. And as our professor sai, symbolism just radiates from this one. Just a couple lines in and we learn this deranged man who can't get his fun stick up is cursing black people for that event. His wife "Grace" ,of all names (elegance, polite, smoothness of form, is just that for him. She at first doesn't seem to be listening to him. Jesse is as far away from grace as he can. Then fast forward a bit to the death scene. You can alost compare it to the passion of Christ. This man, is put on death row and being publicly tortured and executed for committing no cime at all. All the white people are fueled with hate towards someone that is different from them. At first I thought Jesse to be Peter when saying "He waned to be the man with he knife" I first gathered he wanted to be that man and not stab him. But, I was wrong Jesse did not symbolize Peter. He symbolized just an onlooker egging on Christ's death. Also, from the line "I was on my fathers shoulders, but far away from him" (or something like that) Wooooow. He was on his human father's shoulders, but with Jesse's loss of innocence and passion for the death of another human, he was nowhere close to God. He recognized that God was nowhere to be found in that "picnic".

QHQ Food, Culture, Identity
Question: Why do I enjoy the taste of well-marinated, slightly undercooked, large cuts of bovine flesh?
Hypothesis: Meat had been a staple of early man’s diet for centuries, and my wife constantly reminds of how similar I am to a caveman, therefore, I must eat food that has the ability to run.
Question: Why do I continue to eat it, knowing that it will most likely cause me a massive coronary episode?
Answers: I eat meat because it makes me happy. The taste of a freshly grilled, lightly peppered hunk of slightly red beef is greater than the boring experience of the bowl of green leaves lightly covered in fat-free dressing that preceded it. Meat is manly, and meat is beautiful. If meat were a woman, and I were allowed to engage in a romantic relationship with said “womeat”, I would not only ensure that we dated exclusively, I would quickly propose. We would be married at the nearest elephant bar by a George Foreman, with all of best friends at my side (Sir Loin, Phil A. Minion, and Chuck Beef). The honeymoon would be a lovely, and gently romantic weekend until dinner time. After a few moments of weeping at the recent death of my meat-wife, I would then be on the prowl for the next Mrs. Swisher. Meats are an essential portion of our daily diet. Have you seen vegans? They look greener than the meals they force themselves to eat in the name of P.E.T.A. A steak, grilled slowly over an open flame, lightly basted in a concoction of Worchester sauce, seasoning salt, pepper, and Heinz BBQ sauce, is comparable to Christmas morning when you are seven years old. I believe I may eat meat so often, and so much because I was a cannibalistic cow in my former life. Meat represents my better qualities. The brown of the surface represents my strong attraction to hispanic women, the pink of the interior eludes to my feminine side, and the tough texture is symbolic of my ability to absolutely destroy any man that attempts to stand between me and my “womeat”. If I were one of the survivors of the plane crash depicted in the movie “Alive”, I would most likely have eaten someone before the plane even crashed. So in summation, I love meat because meat loves me. Meat may cause me to suffer a massive heart attack by the time I am 29, but nevertheless, it will remain my favorite food, most likely until that day.

Postive: Ease of use, and nice use of layout. I didn't find it difficult to navigate the site at all. A lot of sites, especially those associated with collegiate activities, can be cumbersome. I liked that I could find it, and the content within very easily.
Negative: Not a lot of content. I would like to see more videos, pictures, and helpful sections added to the site. Maybe a Q&A, or a tips section.

I just finished reading both At His Disposal and How to Tame a Wild Tongue. Even though homework was only to write on one story, I wanted to write something on both. Here we go...
At His Disposal really just bugged me a lot. Personally I do not believe prayer works. I have prayed when I was younger, and no not for gifts, and nothing ever happened. I believe you choose your own path, and there is no higher spirt that assits you to get there. Your decisions affects your present as well as your future. I have seen shows on TV where people claimed to have prayed for their rent to be payed, and that month they managed to have enough to pay it. They say they prayed. I believe they just worked harder to get the money they needed. No higher powers help. I have no intention to put down religion. I just have my own beliefs. To have the story say "how even more terrible it was for her who had been so close to Him, to have, as it were, lost all sense of His presence", I think it is bogus. How do you have "His presence"? You do not. You just claim you do. That is what I believe at least. Again I do not mean to offend anyone, these are my beliefs.
How to Tame a Wild Tongue was a interesting story in the beining. That is until it got to paragraph 23. Paragraph 23 states that the dominant white culture is killing others slowly with its ignorance. That really annoyes me. Having say we are killing raises with our ignorance is such a lie. We did not make people weak and empty, they made themselves weak and empty. I agree White people are not the greastest at all, but to say we want power while we want color's to barricade themselves is such a ignorance response. I believe this person who wrote this was treated badly by white people, but to say that all white people are bad is a a lot messed up. "Ignorance splits people and creates prejudice", stated by the writer. But is she not being ignorance and prejudice by what she says about Whites? This writer in my opinion has double standards. "Nothing happens in the real world unless it first happens in the images in our heads." Seems she is letting the real world get to her without thinking for herself.
Again I do not want to offend anyone by what I wrote. Just both of these stories got to me.

“I Have A Dream”
Martin Luther King happens to be one of my heroes in history. He was incorporated into an era of abuse and hate. He experienced torturous action time and time again, and through all of it his motto was “peaceful demonstration.” He was a wonderful man in a terrible time. This speech is one of my favorite pieces of literature. The illustration and metaphor within the words, create a feeling of hope and destiny. “The red hills of Georgia”, red for the blood spilled in one of the more violent places during the civil rights movement, “oasis of freedom”, an oasis being a source of vitality and replenishment that is firmly established within a surrounding desert. These are beautiful examples of the genius and gentle justice of King. Using the words “I have a dream” was intended to be more than just a sweet sounding phrase. A dream is an inspiration, and a dream is part of our psyche. Rarely do we control our dreams, and rarely do we remember them. King was using this description because it was not just a desire of his heart, it was a subtle portion of the human condition to wish for peace and harmony. King had a dream, and he shouted it to the masses in hopes of banning together a brotherhood that no hateful action may subdue. As Sandra wrote, “it gives me chicken skin” to read these poetic words from a man swallowing his own hate for those that hated him. King was a father, but not just a father to four children. When he wrote that he had a dream for his four children, I believe he was speaking of all person’s subjected to the hateful treatment they had been enduring in all four corners of the world. King was a great leader, and an even greater speaker. I can only hope that one day I will have a dream nearly as profound as he had so many years ago.

Hola post peers!! I am having a hard time with my QHQ paper. I have no clue how I relate to food. For the most part I always have some form of meat in my dish. If a dish does not have meat well let’s just say it better be damn good for me to eat it. So from what you have seen so far in class can anyone give their input on what you think what kind of food or dish you relate me to??? I asked other people and here is what I got:
Mangos and chili: Mangos for sweet and chili for bad ass
Beer battered fish and chips with Pabst Blue Ribbon: ????
Taquitos with guacamole: ???
Shark: Because if I were a shark I would bite people’s heads off (my husband’s response, I still don’t know what that means???)
Your help is appreciated!!! Thank you much:)

After reading both "At His Disposal" and How to Tame a Wild Tongue, I decided to write on "At His Disposal" In this story, the author is explaining Mother Teresa's despair and anguish from to absence of God's love and attention. She works hard for it though it never comes. She claims she is living in a darkness similar to Hell. I'm not a very religious person and never have been. I've never been given a reason to beleive in God although I've tried. I never felt and still never feel that I am living in darkness without knowing him. More recently, and I don't know why, I'm attracted to a higher power. I'm not sure what I beleive, but I feel like there is something above me that I can look to for guidance. It could just be me looking in myself for a "higher" me, if that makes any sense. For a short time in my life, I swore there was no God and I didn't care to learn if there was. It was a rough time for me. I'm a much more optimistic person now and I am always willing to learn something that I am unaware of, including religion. To make things clear, I do not intend to relate to Mother Teresa's despair in trying to get to know God. I prefer to lead a happy and full of "light" lifestyle. The story is captivating though, to say the least.

Hey! I like carrots!
Question: Why do I like carrots?
Hypothesis: Carrots are a tasty food that I love and they are good for one’s health.
Question: Why do I have them at so many of my meals and how do they affect my identity, eyesight and physical being?
Answers: Carrots are cheap and easy to make. Boiling carrots can be served with any meal during the week and also during holidays with the whole family. I like a food that does not make me look like someone who does not care about what they eat. Carrots either raw or cooked are low in calories and are sweet and tasty. When traveling any where in the world one can usually find carrots somewhere close by. In most places one can find them either fresh or canned for a very low price. My favorite carrot dish is during Christmas when we have tiny carrots with spinach, tuna and onion dip. I usually wash them down with a nice cold glass of eggnog. I learned about this dish when I was in the restaurant business. We were having a contest of trading dares. The carrot dare turned out to be very good. I can remember in my childhood how carrots were a symbol of one of my favorite cartoons. Most children like carrots too. In The Allegory of the Cave Glaucon says, “Would he not have his eyes filled full of darkness?” Carrots have always been a symbol of superior eyesight. No eyesight problem? How about a sweet tasty snack? They are perfect any time and can also be mixed with other dishes. Carrots can also be made into a very nutritious juice; fresh carrot juice is the nectar of the gods! If you are having some friends over for a party you can do yourself a favor and show your identity with an orange treat that symbolizes kick off time! Many NFL teams have the orange color in their uniforms. There is also a cake made of carrots should you want something sweet later. If you want something to eat and can not think of anything just remember carrots.

Obama Speech
President Obama's Speech was really well written and executed. While reading this speech I have to admit it gave me the chills and made me feel so proud of our new President. I loved how President Obama incorporated people especially Ann Nixon Cooper in his speech. I am so proud that the United States has such an awesome President and I feel that America has come so far. I honestly feel that with President Obamas presidency he will help this nation get back on the right track. Both speeches are amazing and inspiring.

Oh my goodness when it comes to food I am the first one there. My family knows never to ask if I am hungry because I am always hungry. I love every kind of food; Mexican, Italian, Peruvian, Brazillian, Japanese etc. Everyone can relate to food and love it as much as someone else. I love how food brings family and friends together. The only thing about food is it can be ones own worst enemy. Overall food is the best things ever!!

How to Tame a Wild Tongue
This was a sad story by Gloria Anzaluda. It was a story about her language during her childhood. She was a Hispanic Indian mix who grew up where her language was not wanted. In teaching children long ago, the order was to teach English and remove them from their native language at first task. This meant hitting them and being overly strict with them to do this as quickly as possible. Being that she was of mixed Indian race she was considered by Mexican immigrants to be below them. Her life was one of much harsh judgment due to that and the fact that she was also a lesbian. One enjoyed reading stories like this one because it makes one feel like one is on vacation when in reality one is overwhelmed with work that one still has to do. She feels that her identity is being taken away with her Chicano language. In truth that was the whole idea; change everyone to English speaking Americans. She feels that she would like to change how people receive her by changing herself first. Her long term goal would be combat racial discrimination. As she puts it she is half Indian and half “wet” Mexican or in laymen’s terms undocumented alien. Broken Spanish is all that she knew but it was her language and she identified with it. I cannot think of anything worse short of being held captive. She explains that she was held captive where she lived in Texas.

Question: Why are tacos so tasty and delicious?
Hypothesis: Is because is part of a traditional Mexican food and one of my favorites Mexican foods
Question: Why do I order it at every Mexican eatery and how does it represent my personality/ culture/ identity?
I am Mexican-American and a food that fits perfectly with who I am are tacos. You might be wondering how does it fit with my American side? Well the answer is simple, is because now in days you can find tacos mostly in every part of America. Even though, their origin is Mexico. I think that the U.S. has adopted tacos not only because they are tasty and delicious, but because is out the ordinary and a flamboyant food. In Mexico is a traditional food because Mexican’s are tortilla and meat lovers. This gives a little preview of who I am, meaning I can adapt, be remember where ever I go like tacos are, be out of the ordinary, and be flamboyant at times. Therefore, that is why I chose tacos to represent my personality. The tortilla is the base and most important part of a taco. The most important part of myself is my soul/ spirit. The meat that goes in the middle of a taco, which can be different meat from carne asada to carne the adobada. The meat is the second most important part of a taco. The second most important part of me is my different emotions that lay within me. The stuff that decorate or is added to a taco to make it more presentable and colorful are onion, lemon, coriander (cilantro), and most important chili. In my personality these ingredients represent my types of personalities. For example, I can be spicy ( chili), I can get irritated/ frustrated when things do not go like I want (onion), I can be sour towards something, place , or someone (lemon), and I always have hope for those I love ( coriander are green which represents hope). When these special ingredients are use right, meaning not to much or not to little the result is a perfect tacos; a perfect me.

MLK/Obama
To be honest I am a little confused how these two speeches can be compared side by side. They differ as much as tabloid news changes. The only similarity is that they were both writen by black men. One speech was writen when racial hardships were at their peak and there were those who were more tahn willing to fight for what was right. The other speech was writen on the basis of an inhereted trunph card. MLK faught for the freedom of african americans and encouraged that other races be accepted as well. Obama uses the premesis of being black. He argues that a black man being elected president is a victory for african americans. But in reality, I beleive that in this day and age, such "victories" are fleeting. Today tolerance is not only taught, but also celebrated and certain kinds of racisms are illigal. With racism at an all time low an arfican american victory is trivial. What we should be aiming for is a human victory, which involves everyone despite the color of ones skin.

"I Have a Dream" by MLK
This was not my first time reading this amazing speech of MLK. In my High School years one of my history teachers made us read it. But we never got to analyze it how I know we are going to do it on Monday. Im excited to hear what my classmates are going to say about this wonderfull speech. I really enjoy reading this speech more than Obama's beacuse I felt that MLK used more metaphors and symbolisim than he did. I also felt that MLK had more emotion to it. I saw the video when MlK gave this speech and the way he talked and express himself, such passion I did not see that in Obama. Obama was more calm and ofcourse excited but more calm.

Grammy Museum
As I drove up to parking lot C-10 on Friday morning I was pretty confused as I saw 2 buses. I thought I was losing my mind because of the lack of sleep I had been having the days before but luckily one of those was the right one. As I got closer I started to see people that I recognized and realized I was in the right place and was relieved. As soon as I got out of my car I was ready to jump right in the bus and take a quick little power nap so that I could enjoy the museum much better later on that day. It took us a while to get on the bus so we stood there talking about what we had done and about the homework and what was due when and whatnot. At last the time to get on the bus and I was excited to be one the road and on our way to Alondra Hot Wings. When I got on the bus I put my earphones in and tried to get a small nap before we got to the restaurant. When we got there it was funny to see how the people looked and us as we all filled out of the bus and started to walk towards the restaurant. We all stood outside waiting for people inside to order. As people walked by they gave us the funniest look, like they were asking themselves what all the fuss was about the place we were all waiting for. When I walked in I instantly noticed the portraits of Al Capone, Lucky Luciano, Bugsy & etc. on the wall. It was really cool how they had pictures of all these different gangsters up on the walls. It made it look really tough and cool. I ordered some chicken strips with bar-b-que and some fries and could not wait until I got my food because I had not had breakfast. As we ate our food we talked and I remember Jessica trying to get people to try the hot sauce and I do not remember seeing anyone try it. I heard it was really hot though. We all finished our food and made our way back to the bus and at last we were on our way to our final destination The Grammy Museum. We were finally on our way to the museum and I was excited to see all that we were about to see. As soon as we got out of the bus I was anxious to get inside. As we walked in the elevator I was like a little kid, I thought the blue lights in the elevator were the coolest things in the world. When we reached the 4th floor, we walked right into this room with all kinds of artists on the wall and their wonderful Grammy moments. That floor was full of all kinds of cool things. The thing that I spent the most time on was the huge i-pod like player thing that they had with the different genres on it. It was cool to see all the different types of music there has been throughout time and how much music has changes throughout the years. It is a crazy thing to think how much it has changed. Just to think about how much rap has changes in amazing. Also on that floor was the Michael Jackson tribute that I thought was really amazing. It was wonderful to be able to see him in his highest moment and to watch him doing what he loved to do. He was one of the few that always looked so happy to be on stage. The 3rd floor was my favorite floor in the museum. I loved that as soon as you got to that floor they instantly grabbed your attention with all the different things that you could play with. It was funny watching people playing the piano and singing along to the song that they were listening to. It made me laugh to see everyone all into their song but no one else could hear the music but they did not care. They were singing their little hearts out and that is what made it fun. Also in that floor were the cool little rooms that showed you how different people in the music industry do their jobs. My favorite was the one where you went in and recorded a song and they showed you the whole process. After going through all the floors it made me love music even more. It was fun seeing all the different outfits that all the celebrities wore to the Grammy’s and stuff.

iFalcon-Habits of Mind
Ok so I always see the link to this website whenever I log into my Cerritos account. I never once was emptiest to follow the link. Not only have I seen the link on the Cerritos website but it is all over the school’s campus. Tons of advertising and still no interest on my end. So I finally checked it out, forcefully lol Professor Hsiao.
Pros: The website has good information and details of what the Habits of Mind are. There are actual testimonies from people who use the Habits of Mind. There are some links to articles on academic success.
Cons: Am I the only one that feels like they are looking down on people??? “There are many students at Cerritos that struggle academically because they simply do not have the same set of practices, behaviors, or attitudes that successful students possess.” They also mention that “The significance here is that these students come from families that have little or no familiarity with a college environment, not to mention the skills that are needed to succeed in college.” Studies found this from a study on the students. But I seem to be offended and if this was a study and that was between 60% and 80% of their answers, well I say it’s an excuse. If I’m lazy it is because I chose to be lazy not because of my parents and their lack of education. Oh hey did anyone notice in the Spring 2009 Academic Excellence Award Recipients the girl who is holding her notebook upside down?? Or do I just think it’s upside down??
Ok there is my negative comment.

I loved Katy Perry’s outfit with the fruit on it. I thought it was super cute. Jennifer Lopez’ famous green dress was so crazy. I never knew that her dress was see through; she is so courageous to have worn it. Not only was it see through but with that huge slit in the front she could have had a big wardrobe malfunction. Going to lucky strikes was cool. I had never been there so I was looking forward to it. It was really nicely decorated and had such a fun inviting atmosphere. It was fun watching people bowl and the look on their faces when they got a strike or they threw a gutter ball. Overall I had a really good time. I talked to people that I had not talked to so far this semester. It was fun getting to see all the different personalities in all of the different classes. I had a lot of fun and look forward to going to another field trip soon. Thank you Mr. Hsiao for the opportunity to go on this field trip and having a good time!

Going To Meet The Man
This short story is mainly about a racist white man named Jessie who is lying in bed with his wife Grace one night when he has flashbacks about his childhood and the horrific events that he witnessed. Jessie wants to have sex with his wife however she is dozing off and he has trouble getting it up anyway. He lies there in his thoughts and ideas, and can not contain the thought of how he enjoys having sex with black women. He has a flashback of when he tried to quiet down a group of black men who were singing. He then remembers when his parents took him to see a black man being tortured. This man's genitals were cut off, he was tied up and hung from a tree, and a fire was set beneath him. All of this happened while Jessie was on the shoulders of his father watching every second of torture that black man went through. This has molded jessie into a extremely racist person who degrates black people and abuses them. After his flashback in bed he gets the urge to have rough sex with his wife as if she was a black woman. And in the end of this story he hears a rooster crow and the sound of tires on the gravel outside his house.
I find this story very wierd and quit possibly with the most metaphores and symbolisim that i have ever read. I want to think that there is so much more to this story than what is in front of me when i read it but as i read it over and over again, I find the same symbolic obstacles that simply seem to be what they appear to be and nothing more. I think that stories like these are primarily made for disscusions and debates whether they are ficion or non-fiction, they are probably made for this sole purpose. It is a great way to help others understand what the story is about and to put into perspective what is not told in the story and fill in the blanks, however there is no correct answer or truth to the disscussion or debate.

Question: Why are tamales very common for parties and holidays?
Hypothesis: They are very popular among Mexican families not only because its part of their heritage, but also because they have many varieties of flavors and a great taste.
Question: Why do I enjoy eating tamales any change I get and how do they relate to me and my family?
Answers: Due to my busy schedule many days of the week I am forced to eat out. Home made meals are rare, and home made meals made from my mom are even rarer. Once in a wile my mom will come over and bring me meals. My favorite Mexican delights are tamales, so any chance I get to eat them I don’t think twice. As a child the most common Holiday dish were tamales. Anytime I eat my mother’s tamales, I am reminded of spending cold Christmas Eve’s with my siblings, sitting around our Christmas tree eating tamales and anxiously waiting for the clock to turn twelve. That memory of being with my family is the only cherished memory that I have of when we were a big happy family and before each one of us started going our own way. Tamales remind me of my Mexican heritage and also our Mexican customs. Like for example, no one can have tamales with our exquisite warm cinnamon drink called “champurado.” Champurado and tamales are like peanut butter and jelly, you can not go with out one or the other. Also, my family’s tradition the morning after is frying left over tamales, adding salsa, and enjoying breakfast with the whole family. There’s nothing like fried tamales for breakfast wile watching the small children who didn’t make it to the twelve mark open their gifts on Christmas day. Tamales always remind me of my happy childhood and how stress free times used to be. Most importantly tamales remind me of the happy times my family spent together.

Question: What is boerenkool?
Hypothesis: Boerenkool is delicious because it is a typical Dutch home cooked meal, and it can be made vegetarian.
Question: What does it’s translated name mean and what does the entire meal say about me?
Answers: Boerenkool translated means the “farmers kale”. Boerenkool, pronounced boo-rrren-cole is made of potatoes boiled with kale and spices. It is next mashed together. The green mountain is served piled high on a plate with gravy running down its sides, a heap of mustard and smoked sausage on the side. It is one of those dishes that every Dutch family makes during the winter. The kale represents the green in me. It is that part of me that is aware of my environment. It makes me recycle and go to extreme measures to waste less. The kale is what connects me with nature. It makes me choose to travel to places like Iceland rather than cities like New York. The potatoes are that part of me that takes the time to enjoy life. Sometimes that enjoyment comes from food and other times from life’s simple things. There have been times in my life where I was obsessed with my weight. I’ve tried tons of diets. But in the end I have realized that I am who I am and I enjoy starches. I would rather be my size and enjoy meals than be that girl who picks at meals or lives on salads. I enjoy potatoes, rice, pasta, and bread. I don’t mind that it adds those extra 15 lbs that I could do without. Potatoes are known as a simples poor mans food. I am a simple girl who does take the time to smell the roses. I am the girl who grips on lavender, rosemary and basil shrubs excitingly and brings her hand to her nose to deeply inhale. I am she who loves to walk barefoot in the grass. I am the one who laughs hysterically at those silly jokes found on popsicle sticks.

The gravy pooled in the crater on the green mountain and running down its sides represents the part of me who has the ability to connect with many different people. The gravy touches every part of the dish. This is me in my everyday life. I am very open and this gift I have (yes, I do consider it a gift) allows me to make deep connections with people. I can easily put myself in another’s place. I am a tearless over-emotional being. I have a keen sense of one’s feelings and this allows me to make those connections. I have an understanding of life that makes me aware that we all make choices that will affect our future, accidents can happen, and no one is “better than that”. The mustard represents the persistence in me. No matter how many times one may wash and re-wash that shirt they spilled mustard on, it will not come out. Once I put my mind on something or have a purpose, nothing can stop me. Mustard is a condiment with a strong taste. Use mayo on a sandwich for someone who hates mayo and usually one can scrape it off with a knife without it being noticed. Do the same with mustard and there is no masking its taste. No matter how much one may scrape, its flavor will persist. This is how I am when I set my mind on something. No obstacle can set me back. I am strong willed and enjoy challenge. I will only briefly mention the significance of the season boerenkool is prepared. Winter is my favorite time of the year. Maybe this has to do with the nostalgia of many childhood Christmases. Maybe it is the thought of snuggling with hot cocoa by the fireplace. Maybe it is the short days and the coziness darkness brings. Whatever it is, I love winter. I enjoy the cold, the rain, the snow. Lastly, the veggie smoked sausage. I am a vegetarian and although one can find vegetarian smoked sausage in California, I have yet to find one that comes close to the taste of the veggie smoked sausage found in Holland. Veggie smoked sausage, or “rookworst” as they say in Dutch, represents that part of me who wants to belong but only under my own terms. I do not eat real meat but I do like the way it tastes. I do not try to be the black sheep that I am, but I have no problem going against the grain. I want the same things most do in life and am willing to take the alternate routes to achieve them. Boerenkool is a delicious meal that I will never again look at the same.

First: Positives on iFalcon
They have a lot of cool things to help you out with transfers and give you really cool study tips and stuff. It is really cool how they have real people telling you about their experiences. You see how the things they are talking about affected them and can help you not commit the same mistake they did. They have a lot of cool things on there to help you get ahead in school.
Negative:
I think the school should advertise it more and let the students know more about it. I mean there are posters and stuff up on campus saying iFalcon but a lot of people do not know what it is or what it is for or anything about it
Martin Luther King Jr. Speech
Martin Luther's speech was so powerful. He knew how to get a message accross and he did it so well. I can only imagine how pumped people were after they heard him speak. I was pumped after i read the speech! How cool would it have been to actually be there! I love the way he encouraged the people to keep fighting for their rights and not give up, but he told them to do it the right way. He told them not to get roudy and go crazy and I love that because now-a-days when people want to get a point across they feel like they have to go all out to get peoples attention. After reading the speech it made me feel proud to live in the US. We are a land that has come so far and have overcome so many things since MLK gave this speech. It makes me happy to know that for the most part, what MLK was trying to get across that day in some ways has come reality. In this past year we have seen one of the greatest racial barriers broken in some ways. Some people thought that we would never see a black man become president, but that changed earlier this year. I wish that Martin Luther King Jr. would have been here to see how much things have changed since the 60's and how his speech changed the nation and still continues to change and mold us still today. MLK was such an intelligent man you could just tell im his speech. He was well spoken and very had depth in the things that he said. I am proud to be an American and that I got to live and see how much this nation has grown throughout the year.
I just have one thing to say about the Obama speech. I love this quote from line 19 that says " To those who would tear this world down- We will defeat you" God Bless our troops and thank God that they are out there fighting for the things that we have!

MLK Speech
I have never read the “I Have A Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. before. I have only heard bits and pieces from watching it on television in Jr. High. Since reading this speech I noticed that Martin Luther King was both fearless and very confident with his words. In the first line,
“I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation(MLK 1)
He believed that his speech would impact a lot of people and it did.
I thought the quote
“Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice” (MLK 6)
was beautiful. It showed similarities to Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave.” The dark symbolizing the cave and the sunlit path standing for reality.
I admired how he said they will not rest until the
“Negro is granted his citizenship rights” (MLK 7)
It implies that they mustn’t give up on what they believe in and it taught me to never lose hope.
I thought the quote,
“Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred” (MLK 8)
was going for the “If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em” vibe. Dr. King Jr. did not want to result to violence to get his point across. He wanted to hit with words not with fists.
It was remarkable to see that Martin Luther King Jr. gained support from a majority of white people. They stood by him and believe in his words. I liked how Dr. King Jr. pledged that they should march ahead and not turn back. I think he meant that they shouldn’t focus on the turmoil they experienced but find ways to prevent it from happening again. It breaks my heart to see what the Negros went through in the past. To be left out, to feel rejection and to feel less than. Dr. King Jr. believed that we will all be united at judgment day. God will see no color lines.
“…and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together”
(MLK 24)
I especially liked the ending
“Free at last! Free at last! Thank God almighty, we are free at last! (MLK 42)
It meant that they were free to make choices, free to live, free to have an opinion, free to have a voice and be heard. Martin Luther King’s speech is just as important then, as it is today. We still suffer from discrimination in today’s society. King’s words of wisdom gives us all motivation to live a better day.

Question: Why is crispy pata so tasty and mouth watering?
Hypothesis: Because of its' irresistible look, taste and it's also a part of our culture
Question: Why do I always request it at every occasion and order it at Filipino restaurants?
Answer: Before getting into this food I'm gonna tell a brief description of what crispy pata is for those of you that do not know. Crispy pata is a deep fried food. That is where the word 'crispy' came from. Pata is the front or hind leg of the pig. I love eating this food even though it is not so healthy because of at every bite of the skin you can taste the seasoning that was mix into it and the crispy sound while chewing it is the best part of this food. This food is also considered a traditional Filipino food because it is always present at every occasion whether it is birthday, christmas, thanksgiving, new year, or just a simple family gathering. The other thing that I love about this food is that it gives you different types of flavors from the skin itself, or with sauce, the meat itself, or also with sauce which can also vary but, the one I like is the soy sauce mix with vinegar and pepper with chopped garlic. It is hard to miss from anyones eye when it's presented at the table along with other dishes because of its' unique look. To be considered a good crispy pata, the skin must look like golden brown and the meat inside it must be moist, soft and not burnt. I remember three years ago at a family reunion that one of my cousins named me 'pata boy' because everytime we see each other he always sees me eating it and finishing what ever was left over from the gathering. The other best part about it is the soft, tasty meat that compliments well with the crispy skin. Eating them together would be a great combination. At a glance, the crispy pata might just look like a typical fried food with not much to offer. But after eating it, the taste definitely speaks for itself rather than the looks. As for my identity, I can probably relate some of my qualities to crispy pata because I may be quiet, simple, and may look like that don't have much to offer but, the best of me comes out when people get to know me.

As usual, I enjoyed the every field trip of Mr. H 's class. The Alonda restaurant was really good; the Buffalo chicken wing looked really delicious. I did not eat it but i knew because i saw my classmates and others truly enjoyed it, just like how i happily enjoyed the $1 dollar, SUPER SPECIAL DEEP FRIED twinkie. Usually i do not eat breakfast so i wanted to order something small like french fried and then i saw it, the "SUPER SPECIAL DEEP FRIED twinkie"- it was written separatedly on a mini black board. For some reasons, i happened to misread it as: SUPER SPECIAL DEEP French FRIED and i ordered it.Then i got a WAYYYYY too sweet DEEP FRIED TWINKIE + whip cream on top of it for breakfast. anyways, that twinkie was not bad at all, except the whip cream. I think this restaurant is better than the one we visited last semester. The new one is clean. They have good music and nice decoration inside the restaurant. The people their look nice and i like the way that they serve us by name instead of giving us the number.
The grammy museum is a nice place as well. i like the music tutorial rooms: tracking, mixing, singing, rapping...I tried almost of them and had fun with the singing room the most. That room made me sing " I am a human ~...I am only a human ~HUMAN ~" over and over again. No matter how much i tried to sing it,but my voice sounded very horrible and almost stupid. Later on, when i got home and gave a thought about it. The lyric of that song seems very weird and impossible for a normal person to sing it perfectly in the first time. I think that The Museum should had given me an easier song to sing but ...(arrh they got me ). However, it was a good experience overall. ok i am done with the grammy report.

Going to Meet the Man
This is the second time reading this story and i kind of wish i didnt. I forgot how intense the images in this story was. This story is basically an invitation into a mind filled with hatred. It is impossible for me to imagine the amount of pain that this man has inflicted upon many people. Not only that but he enjoys doing it. When i say enjoys, i mean he really enjoys it. He enjoys it so much that he gets off on it. He needs that feeling of hatred and sadism in order to have sex with his wife. He was exposed to this hatred at a young age. The things that he see's as a child are so ingrained in his head that it affects him his whole life. All of his lewd acts are finally catching up to him, when he starts to feel guilty for all of the sins that he has committed. He knows judgement day is coming. The story had a lot of symbolism that i want to discuss in class.

Question: Why do I hate hamburgers so much?
Hypothesis: I have been working at a restaurant that serves nothing but hamburgers; therefore my taste for them has diminished.
Question: Will I ever learn to eat this American meal?
I have been working at Knott’s Berry Farm for two years, in a restaurant called Hollywood Hits. This restaurant is constantly flooded with guest’s wanting amusement park food such as hamburgers, hot dogs, and American Fries. Day in and day out I walk into a kitchen filled with the scent of cooking beef patties. When I first started working at the shop I had no problem consuming the juicy, meaty hamburgers. After constant exposure to the smell and taste of this food, my desire for them diminished. My senses began to work against me. My taste buds were no longer accustomed to the bland, dead cow meat that lay between two buns. Then my sense of smell followed. I have cooked countless of patties and the scent of them on the grill made me nauseous. The smell of the cow meat would cling onto my clothes. I would bring the scent of cheeseburgers to my home. Finally, my sense of sight is what ended my love for burgers. On the boxes of patties, there would be a label on every boxing stating the date of birth that the cow was born. That gave the cows a kind of humanistic personality. Then there were the cooks. I saw, first hand, how they cook and prepare the meat. I do not want to get into detail, but I will say that it was less then sanitary. From this point on I hated hamburgers. Absolutely no hamburger was appetizing for me. It was hard for me to make this adjustment because my family ate hamburgers every other day. Constant exposure to this food simply ruined it for me. I do not think I will ever find the appetite to devour this meal again.

The Grammy Museum
I had an amazing time at the grammy museum. I am a lover of music and i felt right at home. The best part of the museum(besides the music room) was the section where they had michael jacksons jackets. I didnt know he was such a tiny man. It was hard to picture him dead after seeing the jackets that he once wore. The bowling was fun too, even though i got beaten by areli and claudia. I am extremely competitive and it sucked to lose to 2 girls. This will probably be brought up in class and im just gonna slink down on my desk. This was probably one of my favorite field trip besides the getty.

QHQ: Food, Culture, Identity
Question: Why does the thought of my mom’s homemade chicken curry make my mouth water and my heart smile?
Hypothesis: It is like a taste of India in my mouth that brings back very fond family memories.
Question: Why can’t I seem to get enough of it and how does it represent my culture and identity?
I grew up in a very Americanized household, but the one thing about my Indian culture, that I was very much exposed to, was its cuisine. The love for my mom’s home cooked meals was one of the main things that brought my family together. India is very well known for its spices, so it was guaranteed her cooking was full of strong flavor and zestiness. When I was younger, I did not take too well to the spectrum of flavors, especially when it came to curries. I found everything to be too sour, too spicy, or too bitter. My taste buds just would not cooperate with me. Chicken curry was one traditional Indian dish that my mom made on a regular basis. Out of everything I had ever eaten, it was this particular dish I found to be perfect for me. She made it just right. The flavoring of the curry was mild but enough to arouse my taste buds, and the chicken was tender. I personally preferred eating it with rice. It was a common dish she made during the holidays, whenever we had guests over, or for those rare family dinners we had. The smell alone would dominate the house. My siblings would complain about the stench, but I secretly enjoyed it. Today, it manages to give me this sense of homeliness, comfort, and a feel for my own culture. Just thinking about chicken curry takes me back to when my family was more of a family than strangers living under the same roof. It stimulates my memory of when we took part in Indian festivities and holidays. I look back and remember all of our few, but happy family gatherings prior to when we all went our separate ways. As I got older, I was able to appreciate and embrace all the other Indian cuisines just the same. I have found a growing love for foods with strong unique flavors. Although I have tried my fair share of foods, nothing can compare to my first and only favorite, homemade chicken curry. I do not think I will ever get tired of such a delicious dish.

The Longissimus Dorsi
Question: Why is this particular muscle of a cow, this cut of steak referred to as the rib eye, so absolutely delightful in meeting with the taste buds when it is treated and cooked properly?
Hypothesis: It is the finest, most flavorful cut of the entire cow, being marbled with a succulent fat that oozes an almost clear, molten zest for the mouth when fired correctly.
Question: Why is good beef in general so wonderful and how might a well-cut, halfway-cooked piece of meat find correlation with my life?
Answers: Fired meat goes far back and is even critiqued by the utmost Authority on any and every thing. Looking into the Old Testament Scripture, one might find numerous accounts of burnt offerings of well prepared cattle. Each time there is note of what a sweet aroma it is to this absolute Authority, God. If that is not the greatest and most persuasive collection of food reviews, I do not know what is. My favor for meat reflects this perhaps unintentional recommendation. In regards to life, one might note that it is in general a beautiful thing. We see this when a new baby is born in the family and more specifically, I am sure, when parents have a baby themselves. Just as the steak in its raw form has yet to be aged, seasoned, prepared and fired so also does a newborn have a future that is metaphorically similar. The best rib eye steak cannot be without any one of these steps just as our lives cannot. You can age and prepare the meat better than ever, but if it is over-cooked, it is ruined altogether. The great flavor is trumped by thoughts of a sore jaw the next day due to the intense chewing exercise in grinding the meat to an ingestible consistency. If the preparation is lacking, then the great consistency and tenderness of the meat might be overlooked by the bland sensation your sense of taste experiences. As adolescents we are seasoned, prepared, and, most literally, aged under the direction of parents and figures of authority. When we reach adulthood, the firing comes; we are placed into the heat for ourselves. Surely there are those that are prematurely thrown into the fire, and there are also those who are over-aged who go on as young adults with their parents still holding their hand and doing their best to delay the inevitable. Either of these presents a problem with traditional “cooking time”. As for myself, I was likely the former. I was seasoned and prepared fairly well, but as it goes, I was placed over the flame earlier than what is considered typical. I might be considered overcooked then, and this shows in my tough exterior. I am rough and hard to chew on when you first take the fork and knife to me, but trudge on down towards the middle and you might find for yourself a more tender piece of meat--something more pleasing to the palette. There you might find the little love that I have been able to grasp and interpret outward. Here remains the difference between the steak and the human life: You can’t save an overcooked steak, but I am of the unmovable belief that God can always change a man’s heart however tough or cold it may be.

Going to Meet the Man
Jesse is full of hatred and racist thoughts. During his whole life he has tortured Black people, because of the upbringing his father exposed him to. The symbolism in this story reminds me of AOTC, he sees what he knows as the only truth. He has "grace" by his side at all times, and at times it seems like he is getting close to it, then his darkness overpowers his thoughts and he takes his being into hell again. The singing in the jail, the thing that sets him off the most, he describes as containing obscure comfort, "They were singing to God." Though he tortures them, they sing for mercy for his soul. Even those who are being tortured by his impure thoughts are praying for his soul. It seems like this Jesse person has grace and prayer surrounding him, but he has chosen not to take them.

Question: How does Zach love eating corn beef, cabbage, and anything with BBQ?
Hypothesis: because not only does it taste amazing, it is a little from both of my family’s history and past.
Question: How can a simple food like those be a part of a person’s past? Let alone his families.
Answer: These foods are traditions from both of my families. They are what both of my parents have been eating for years. They learned it from there mothers or fathers and they learned it from theirs and so on and so forth. My mother’s family is from the beautiful land called the Emerald Isle also known as Ireland. My great grandfather and great grandmother moved here to the states during the 1800’s to start a new life together. Back In there homeland, there weren’t very wealthy and where farmers trying to make there own. They had a pretty decent farm. They grew all of there own stuff. They would grow there own cabbage and raise there own cows. When they would feel and know both the cow and cabbage are ready, they would harvest them. For the cabbage, they would just boil it and serve it. They would also cut the cow up and put there own special ingredients.
For me loving putting BBQ on anything comes from my father’s family. My father was born in the heart of the country in a little city of about 100 people called Moscow, Tennessee. When he was growing up, he, like my mother’s family, worked to get his food. He had to work as a lawnmower and a tutor every day and keep his family from losing everything. He was also the cook of the house next to his mother. She taught him how to cook, barbeque, and everything else. Unlike my mother’s side, my father didn’t have a farm to tend to so he had to walk and drive to the nearest town witch is about 35 miles away. He would always cook and just eat his meat raw. When he moved here when he was 17 years old he went to a BBQ place in LA. From that point on he used BBQ sauce in everything. He showed me that when I was 4 and I kept that idea from then on.

QHQ Food, Culture, Identity
Question: Why is pig blood cake so tasty?
Hypothesis: It is a flavorful Taiwanese snack that has a springy yet firm texture, and it makes me recall my childhood memories.
Question: Why am I always craving for it and how does it represent my personality, culture, and identity?
Yes! It sounds weird and nasty, but it is definitely called pig blood cake. As the name explained, it is made of pig's blood and sticky rice mixed together. It looks like a black popsicle on the stick; the most popular way to eat it is to cover it with a layer of peanut powder and sprinkle some cilantro on it. As far as I could remember, my family used to go to a little stall down the street and bought a lot of pig blood cake, and then we would sit in front of TV enjoying the savory taste of pig blood cake together. Those were precious memories I had with my family in my home country. The aroma of the steamed chewy rice always makes my mouth water. The combination of the distinctive taste with a dip of soy sauce or chili sauce challenges my taste buds. My favorite part is when the peanut powder scatters over the tongue; nothing can be more satisfying than it. After I moved to the U.S., surprisingly I found that pig blood cake is rarely seen here. Moreover, I sensed that few Americans are willing try once they hear it is made of pig’s blood. Maybe it does not have a pretty look and fancy dressing on it, but one will know how tasty it is right after he takes a bite of it bravely. It made me think of myself. As I grew up, I realized that oftentimes I like something that other people do not like. What I always think is very common may be strange to other people from different background, especially after I moved here, I can feel the huge difference. However, should I change to compromise with the popular trend? Or, should I be comfortable of being who I am? I think I will go with the latter. Even though the way I am may not be accepted all the time, it does not mean that there must be something wrong with me. I should, and must be proud of the privilege to have such a unique blend of cultural background and personality, and whether other people like it or not, I will still love eating pig blood cake for that only I know the beauty of it.

My Favorite Food Spot
This is insane. How can I pick just one spot? It's simply not fair and I'm not one to be unfair.
For the sit down and dine, one of the greats is Maggiano's located at The Grove and at South Coast Plaza. It's fantastic Italian with great service and an awesome atmosphere. It's a nice classy place, but it's laid back just the same for the casual folks. They have a baked ziti dish, seasonal lobster and sausage fetuccini, and a garlic shrimp pasta dish that is phenomenal. Appetizers to try are the calamari or the stuffed mushrooms. If the massive portions haven't ruined you for dessert, try the sampler.
If you're on a date, one dinner portion will easily feed and fill the both of you. The best part is it's all moderately priced.
Once I started going there, Olive Garden and Buca Di Beppo started tasting like microwaveable dinners.
For hole in the wall Mexican food everyone in the Norwalk area has to know Albert's off of Firestone right next to the Norwalk Car Wash. Also, I'm on this puffy taco kick right now. Arturo's Puffy Taco located in Whittier on Leffingwell and Santa Gertrudes is ridiculous when it comes to replicating the flavor of my grandma's refried beans and this meat named carne guisada is just delectable. Obviously, if you've never had one, you have to try a puffy taco at all costs. Try it and go crazy. A little side note: Arturo's was featured on The Food Network some time ago... a hole in the wall Mexican place on TV? That says a lot, doesn't it?

MLK Speech
I really enjoyed the eloquence and the message that is this piece. I will say though that I still have a hard time wrapping my mind around the historical context of the day. For me it has always just been an account of what has happened before with a big bright finger pointing at the white people.
Personally I've never faced such segregational hardship, though I hear accounts of modern day abuse. It just remains impersonal for me and, in a way, I am saddened by that.
I think it's ironic that MLK quotes the unalienable rights. This theory was based on John Locke's ideas that did not include "the pursuit of happiness", but instead "property". Behind this idea, he believed that property was obtained by the application of labor. Funny the way it worked in this instance. The founding fathers, many politicians and people thereafter all believed in these ideals while the Negroes did all of the work. In remaining true to the spirit of Locke's beliefs then, the slaves should have been given most of the land. As we all know, this worked out in a much different manner and continued on in other ways until MLK headed a unified effort to put an end to the injustice.

Question: Why do I love to eat pancakes for breakfast?
Hypothesis: They are very fulfilling, delicious, and I can cook them to perfection.
Question: Why is it always a part of my breakfast and how does it represent my personality, culture, and identity?
Answers: I love eating pancakes not only for breakfast but for lunch and dinner too. Pancakes are a universal food for me because I can enjoy them at any time of the day and I can usually fill my self up with just a few pancakes. Since I love breakfast much more than lunch or dinner, I made pancakes a MVP among the breakfast food lineup. The joy of eating my pancakes when I have sufficient time reflects my personality on how I enjoy to stop and smell the roses. I prefer to take my time and enjoy every minute that life has to offer instead of rushing through things because of some prior engagement. This allows me to see more of life than what I would ordinarily see when I am rushing through it at the speed of light. When I take that first bite of a freshly cooked and fluffy hotcake, I immerse my whole body and mind into enjoying that bite and at the same time looking forward to the next one. This also reflects my culture in that it is unusual for my family to eat slowly and to enjoy every last bite of it as much as they can. They tend to eat their food faster than I do and in turn sometimes miss the details of the dish they are eating. I have identified myself as one who prefers to take their time and enjoying the details of everyday life.

This was a very wonderful experience with the class. From the start I was filled with a larger amount of energy, even though I only had two hours of sleep, I got on the bus enacting with everyone. Later, we went to Alondra Hot Wings and seems like everyone was enjoying the food. Everyone had very different tastes in what they ate. I think only a few people tried the atomic hot wings. Being so close to where I lived I made a quick trip to catch some homemade breakfast for I wasn’t in the mood for wings. One’s leaving the restaurant we left to the bus. The foods hit me once in the bus and just remember falling sleep. When I woke up, one of the students look at me and said hi “rise and shine”. I laughed at the comment and began exiting the bus. The museum itself was fun from the start. We began to listen to music from different years like the past and presents. Audrey Valdivia was my little buddy on this trip. What was funny is that we found out we cannot sing at all. Well, Audrey told me that she needs to be in the shower in order to sing great. So she says? Just kidding Audrey but then what was also funny is that I tried to sing the rap song in Spanish. We were in one of those little glass room trying to sing. My Spanish singing sounded worst than my English singing. After, we walked around the second floor and were reading that Eminem the rap singer wrote a song just before the 2002 election when Bush was running. That song was called Mosh and it was representing them trying to change politics. Audrey and I also saw MLK speech in the 4th floor which we heard and it was really cool hearing the speech from his very voice.

Question: What is so delicious about the tallarin de camarones from a "hole in the wall" called Mario’s Peruvian Seafood?
Hypothesis: The flavor that the cooks throw into their food at this particular place is what makes it one of a kind.
Question: How did this dish turn my world around and affect my personality?
Answers: This dish has changed the way eat. I have always been a very picky eater and the one thing that I could never eat to save my life was onion. It was disgusting to me. It would crunch when you bit into it and it really didn’t smell all that great. Well, Mario’s Peruvian Seafood solved that problem for me. One day, I went with my uncle Cesar to eat lunch. He wouldn’t stop talking about this little “hole in the wall” place he had found in Los Angeles on Melrose and Rosmore. We got there and he ordered me the tallarin de camarones (noodles with shrimp). This particular dish has lots of onion in. I took a bite; my fork was wrapped with noodles it had different spices on it. I got a shrimp with my fork and stabbed an onion as well and put it in my mouth. I had never eaten anything more delicious in my life. Now I eat onion everywhere I go. It changed my outlook on onions and has made eating more enjoyable. And every time I go to Mario’s Peruvian Seafood Restaurant I always get the tallarin de camarones.

Question: What special dinners does your family make during Thanksgiving?
Hypothesis: First of all what do we not eat or make? In my family we make tamales, turkey, posole, berria, and my grandmother’s special hot. Those are just the main things we start to eat.
Question: What is the main dish you eat and how does it represent your personality or culture?
Answers: Well, first of all in my family we love to eat. During Thanksgiving we tend to make more food than planned. My grandmother makes her special hot salsa that she adds on the tamales. Till this day, I still do not know what ingredients she makes it with but that’s something I feel she is going to take to her grave and never give its secret. Normally, our dishes consist of turkey, mash potatoes, one tamale with grandma’s hot salsa and berria. Berria is just goat meat that is very tasty. I can compare myself to mash potatoes because sometimes I can be firm yet soft at the same time and the grave consumes my thoughts. I say this because I am a bit of a rebel when it comes to the law. In some case’s I can be firm and obey the law but then breaks by peer pressure and become soft by breaking them. The tamale represents how people perceive me and tend to get comments like are you white or mixed? Just the way a tamale for other cultures may appear conservative. The turkey in our thanksgiving dinner represents how a humorous guy I am. A turkey gobbles and sounds as if laughing and mostly I am. Berria is as I said goat meat which represents how tough I am. Just how meat to tough so am I when it comes to facing struggles in life though it is very hard at times. Lastly, my grandmother’s hot salsa is a symbol of what a hot head I really am. People always see the outer skin of the tamale but sorry to say sometimes I am a true hot head. Something’s I would not want anyone to see. People perceive me as a very nice guy who I am but when they see the other side they view me in a different way. A way that people would not expect coming out of me so I tend to keep my angry in check by MMA which helps blow off steam and certain emotions.

First off Alondra's Hotwings was very good. There is one closer to where I live in Montebello. I had had it the night before as well hahaha. But still very good I love the cheese sticks and Veronica made me try the Honey BBQ wings
which were very good as well.
The Grammy Museum was unbelievable. I love music and it is a very big part of my life. I liked the booths where it showed you how to mix a song and how to edit them. That was very cool. I especially liked the 2nd floor i think it was is where they had all the instruments set up and you could play them. I play the piano a little bit so i was on that for a bit. The theater was really cool to see how excited Beyonce was to perform with her idol. Veronica made us watch it like 3 times.
Lucky strike was really cool. We did some bowling and I beat Veronica and my friend Anthony in it. It was cool watching Veronica bowl because it was her first time and she did pretty good. But yeah all in all it was very cool field trip.

It has been an interesting Monday so far. I woke up to my best friend's/roommate's window being shattered by a piece of wood from the people working on our building. This made us both an hour late to work this morning because we had to wait for them to clean up the mess and board up the window. Work until 4:30, school from 5:40 to 10:30, back up for school at 6:45 and work until 5. I could seriously use a break already. HA.
Hope everyone's Monday is a good one!

How To Tame A Wild Tongue
There should not be a way to tame a wild tongue. If you have a voice, let it be heard. Whether it is in spanish, english, french, etc. your voice should be heard. Everyone has a right to be their own voice. Also, no one should have to feel ashamed of themselves or their heritage because of other's thoughts. No one should be ashamed to be able to be themselves around their own people. The "Man" is trying to bring minorities down, but minorities should not allow him to. Everyone has a right to express themselves, everyone has a right to be prideful of their heritage. Why others try to censor those who are passionate about who they are and where they came from is a mystery to me. I truly feel the "Man" is trying to keep minorities in "their place" because the "Man" is jealous. He is jealous of minorities' history, culture, beauty of being able to be their own people instead of a part of a mass group of one peoples. But sadly, the "Man" is slowly doing their job. He is slowly molding minorities into a blob of people they want them to be. Minorities need to get themselves back. They need to come together and take back who they are, what they represent and hold on to that tightly, not allowing anyone to break the strength they have. Viva la revolucion!

Wow, I honestly did not know they even had one untill Mr.H told us about it. It was pretty awsome. We first went to eat at a hot wings place, I grabbed some fried tomatoe(pretty, bomb. Ill probably try to make it sometime ha) We then headed toward the museum and after passing it our driver made a U-turn in the middle of the street, now that is some serious talent; I cant even drive my own car. Then we headed into the museum, the first floor was like a lobby. You had to take the elevator up to the fourth floor then work your way down. I went up with the last people. When the elevator door opened, we were in a long, wide hallway cover with a long screens on both sides. It was like a club! We were like, are we supposed to be in here? Then you keep walkin and there's like a platform of music to listen to. There are little booths everywhere describing different kinds of music, pop, folk, etc. There was a movie playing Michael Jackson performances, I was there for a while. I never really realized how great he was. Then on to the 3rd floor to mix beats and interact more. You could create your own music, listen to more music, see famous outfits that became iconic. It was basically a time line, and interaction. Then one the 2nd floor we listened to more music, saw some really awsome band pictures lined along the wall, and I listened to music at a special stand. It was all music that was not crap. It was like pro something, anti this, or just positive music; none of the fake love junk. I listened to a Willie Nelson, Jack Johnson song on there that I had never heard, two thubs up! Downloaded it immediatelty. Then we went to lucky strikes from there, played some free games, from some people who never finshed there's and headed home for the day. Great museum. I just wish they had more beatles stuff though. The museum kind of made me realize how good music used to be in the, 70's, 80's, 90's. Now it's all commercial because there is no real movements(except hating on Bush). Good times though. It is right behind the staple center where my brother lives, we'll probably head back there sometime when I get the chance.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue by Gloria Analdua
Language is a large part of everyday use. Whether the language is done by words, expressions, or hand usage people always try to understand what one another is saying. What happens when someone is speaking another language and one does not understand their language? They often feel insecure and threatened not knowing what this person is saying. Not knowing if the other person is talking bad about them or not. In this story How to Tame a Wild Tongue Gloria Anzaldua she states, “At Pan American University, I, and all Chicano students were required to take two speech classes. Their purpose was to get rid of our accents. (Paragraph 4)” When I read this quote I was shocked that a university level of school would do such a thing. I think that accents are unique and a characteristic. I thought about what if I went to another country and tired to learn their language; I too would struggle. There is no such thing as a perfect language because everyone has an accent. There is no such thing as ‘taming a wild tongue’ because everyone has a wild tongue. I also think that someone has to come to acceptance of their language and not be ashamed of their ‘accent’.
QHQ: Favorite Food
Question: How come my mom’s carne asada is always seasoned so well and always cooked so perfectly?
Hypothesis: My mom’s carne asada is always flavored so well because when she was a little girl she grew up in a city very close to Mexico. She grew up around the flavors of Mexican food and has carried those flavors with her throughout her life. She is able to cook the carne asada to perfection. My mom has the meat on the grill for a perfect amount of time, never too long and never too short. She makes the meat a little bit crispy on the outside, and a perfect pink in the middle. The carne asada is amazing.
Question: Why does the taste of carne asada, beans, and rice bring back memories of me at younger years of my life? Why is the carne asada such a great dinner?
Ever since I was a little girl my family and I would travel to my mom’s home town on holidays. I would always be so excited to go down because my family is so loud and crazy, yet every time I would go down to Imperial my stomach would hurt from laughing so much. My mom was from a town that was close to the Mexico border, so she grew up around the authentic carne asada meals. There is a Mexican restaurant in Imperial called Kenney’s Carne. This place has some of the most delicious carne asada burritos. The rice, beans, and meat are all cooked so great, but the burritos are nothing like my moms. At Kenney’s Carne they sell the carne asada meat they cook with, so my mom would purchase some. We would then go back to my aunt and uncles house that we were staying at and we would bar-b-q the following day. I would always be so excited because my mom always cooked with love, and when someone cooks with love the food always tastes better.
My family and I love to socialize with our family and friends, especially during big time sports events. Whenever we have parties I ask my mom if she can make her carne asada, rice, and beans. My mom rarely makes carne asada, so when she does make it the meat tastes that much better. Everyone who has had my mom’s carne asada loves it and always goes back for second and fourths. Something else that is a great factor of when my mom cooks her carne asada dinners is that there are always leftovers for the next night. What my family and I do the next night is make delicious carne asada burritos with all the leftover meat, rice, and beans we have. This meal is such a great treat, and I plan on being able to make if for my family when I am older.

Deep fried cheese balls are awesome.
The Grammy Museum
The fourth floor was fun, specifically the part with the touch screen and headphones. I did not realize there were so many genres of music. The screen was filled with an ongoing stream of genres and famous artists. I believe that the idea of the whole table was to portray a sense of limitless genres, artists, and music. It seemed like there were so many, and with words constantly moving forward, there will be more to come. That was neat to think about.
The third floor was full of interactions. It was fun playing instruments and messing around with beats. The most significant part to me was during the video where they displayed previous Grammy award shows, they had a jazz collaboration. It was great to see so many famous musicians playing what they love most with each other. The same thing with Elton and Eminem, it was great that they performed with each other. It seems like harmony and collaboration is a theme of each and every Grammy performance. Of course this was only an appetizer of the theme.
The second floor was about music and its messages. This floor was brilliant, it had posts set up that played songs, each with their own significant message. The first video I saw was with Tina Turner and Beyonce performing together. Bringing someone from the past and mixing her with the present and eventually future was a great idea. Another sign of harmony. The mini-videos that featured the Dixie Chicks, Jimi Hendrix, and others were all about change and movement. They were in terrible times. They influenced so many with just a strum of a guitar. It would be a dream to witness such unity in an age like this.

Going to Meet the Man
This story was very powerful. This man is just messed up in the head. Growing up all he was taught was hatred toward the "the niggers." This was exciting to him and made him feel good. He got adrenalin from beating these people or having sexual intercourse with black females.
This story draws you a clear picture of everything Baldwin is telling you. You can visualize every scene as you read the story. The flashbacks were great. It gave details about this man's life in a very creative way.
The main character of the story i think has a love hate relationship with blacks. He hates all of them. He is disgusted by their singing, their way of life, and just their overall look. But he loves this hate he has for them. Its the only thing that keeps him satisfy. Doing cruel things to these people is how he feels good. That is why at the end of the story he is able to have sex with his wife. He is thinking of the black females he has slept with and the beatings he has given to "the niggers."
Yes, he does all these things because of his parents. And no, it is not an excuse, but it is a reason. He is a monster and in his mind he doesn't see it that way. This man needs serious help and even with help i think he will never change his outlook on these people.

I Have a Dream by Martin Luther King Jr.
I read both Martin Luther's King speech and Barak Obama’s speech. I thought that the speeches are very different from each other. Before reading both of the speeches I thought that they were going to be similar. They speeches were different in many ways, first of all King focused on just one topic which is the equality of African Americans. What Martin Luther King was saying is how he wanted the United States to be, he wanted the African Americans and the whites or any other race to live in peace and harmony. He expressed how he felt about the black community being rejected by most of the white community. "Freedom", all MLK wanted was freedom for his people; even though they were free they were not treated like Americans. MLK wanted to bring people together and work on bringing America together, he wanted for everyone to live in peace without segregation; he wanted to leave the boundaries of race aside and live life in peace. He wanted to unite his people from coast to coast and prove to America that they were going to fight for the dream of African Americans to have equality and be respected by others. His speech was so inspirational because it proved that fighting for something you believe in you are capable of accomplishing it. It does not matter if some people disagree with you, as long as you believe in what you are fighting for everything is possible.
Acceptance Speech by President Barak Obama
I fell in love with President Obama's speech. His speech did not only focus on one topic, he talked about the problems that Americans have and how they are going to be resolved. I felt that Obama was not giving a speech; he was talking like a normal ordinary American talking to the whole nation. He mentioned his family as well as his old friends and said that he will help America that it will not be easy but with time, trust, and effort everything is possible.

Lucky number thirteen. I have been sick for the past few days. I rarely admit that I am sick but when I am up all night with the shivers and a nose that was running more than Prof. Hsiao I cannot do anything but admit it. As I type I am coughing and cleaning the spit off my MacBook screen. A gross depiction of my current status but nevertheless true.
iFalcon
At first I was thinking that the iFalcon website was going to be, for the lack of better words, dumb. I thought of the myCerritos site which for some reason I cannot understand and I placed iFalcon in the same class. Agamben would have been disappointed in me. But when I checked it out, I actually found it very interesting and helpful. It was easy to navigate and the information provided is useful for new students and students who have been at it (studying) for a while. It is always good to find new ways to improve how you Focus, Advance, Link up, Comprehend, Organize, and get New ideas. See what I did there? This cough syrup has me acting strangely. I liked how each section had videos with actual students talking about each topic. What I did not understand were the mini-lectures and activities. I was thinking they would be things I could read and do myself but it looks like some of them are for the professors.
All in all, iFalcon is a great reference tool for learning how to be a better all around student.

Going to meet the man
aww, i just spent 30 minutes working on a blog and it didn't post :(
aghh here i go again
Wow, this was a very graphic story, very descriptive in every moment. Jesse had all this anger towards black people because of an incident that happened when he was younger that eventually caught up to him. For my first impression of when he talked about tha black girl, i thought he was having an affair, but he was only doing it for the sex and nothing more, he was disgusted by her. This battle between the blacks and whites are going on, but sometimes secretly. "They were soldiers fighting a war, but their relationship to each other was that of accomplices in a crime". Jesse and other police officers were not fighting for everyone but fighting against black people, seeing them as animals and nothing more. How sad that people are like this and have this impression of a certain race that they despise. These thoughts can arise from past experiences, just like jesse. Jesse saw a horrible and graphic incident, the lynching of a black man. To see at a young age a person beeing murderd can leave a permanet imprint on the viewer. He hears singing every now and then, singing of the people in the fields that he paased by. The singing is a constant reminder of that day, the time when his father took him to see a black man tortured over a fire.
The story is graphic, but it proves that at young ages, children are influenced by anything. Influneces that can effect them to insanity and can become a permanent mark on their life.

Question: Why do I prefer the famous Spanish Paella dish than tamales?
Hypothesis: When I smell all the different odors of seafood combined with rice it makes my mouth water. When I see the hot steam coming out of the shrimps and the rice it makes me want to eat the different variety of seafood that makes the Paella so great.
Question: Why has this dish become my favorite food and how does it represent my culture and family?
Being Mexican and Spanish makes my life even better. I get to experience cultures from both worlds. Even though some people think Spaniards and Mexicans share many things in common the answer is NO. One of the privileges having parents from two different countries is getting to experience the different foods that each culture has. Yes, Mexican food is great but for some reason I do not find it as great as the Spanish food. For example tamales are a big thing for Mexican culture, they are often cooked for special occasions and they are often said how great they are, as for myself I do not find them very tasty. Yes they are okay, they have a great smell and they look delicious but in my opinion the taste and smell is nothing compared to the famous Spanish dish, the Paella. Everything about the Paella is great, the smell, the taste, all the different colors and condiments, it is perfect. I love seafood and that is why the Paella is the perfect dish for me. When I see all the shrimps, oysters, fish, mussels, and lobsters mouth starts to water. Knowing that my grandmother is going to cook the Paella drives me insane that I have to wait for the dish to be ready. I can already taste all the different flavors of the sea rushing into my mouth and tasting the rice with all the great tasting seasoning that my grandma cooks with perfection. When the dish is finally finished it reminds me of the beautiful Spanish flag. The color yellow and red are the first colors to stand out. It makes me happy to know that because of this dish our Spanish traditions are always going to be with us, that my family will never lose our Spanish culture. Just like tamales the Paella dish is only cooked on special occasions so that means when my grandmother makes it I get excited that I am going to be having the greatest dish in the world. When it is finally ready the first thing I do is thank my grandma for making such a perfect dish then I sit down and enjoy it, all the flavors rush into my mouth, the shrimps and mussels are my favorite, the texture and the taste makes me forget about everything. Like I said when I am having tamales for me it is just another ordinary food, it is nothing compared to the great taste that the Paella has.

Question: Why does Chicken, Mash Potatoes and Noodles are a constant dish, but are one of my favorites?
Hypothesis: Chicken, Mash Potatoes, and noodles are simple, but represent that simplicity can satisfy without other spices and flavors to disguise the real taste of the food.
Question: Why do I prefer the simple foods over the foods that have a lot of spice?
I love food, but I prefer the taste with minimal amount of spice rather than food that is overwhelmed with sauce and extreme amounts of spice that can disguise the natural taste. The simple taste catches me the most, too much of other condiments can detach me from that certain type of food. Chicken is simple, but yet has spices that can uplift the flavor, not a lot, but just enough. Chicken is a health food, and is recommended over red meat. At least once a week it is on the plate for dinner. Chicken, Mash Potatoes and noodles, to me, are Americanized. I did not grow up in a “traditional” type of family, or to say a “cultured” type. I am Spanish and Mexican, but we hardly embrace those two cultures. Everything, that we eat is simple, so I find it the type of norm every where I go to eat, without the unique taste. From this, I would say my life is simple because I do not look for the extremes in life. Girls are complicated, I would know because I am one. Gossip and drama can easily “spice” up a persons life, but yet can ruin the person’s natural image, who they really are. Spices are excellent in small amounts, but too much can disguise the natural flavor, the real taste.

Question: Why is the end cut of the seared peppercorn prime rib dinner from the Del Rey in Pico Rivera so damn good?
Hypothesis: The crisp layer of spiciness from the peppercorns followed by the perfect medium rare meat that feels like butter when you bite into it is hands down culinary perfection.
Question: Why do I have it for only special occasions and how does it represent my personality?
Answer: One of the reasons I only go to the Del Rey in Pico Rivera to eat the fabulous end cut seared peppercorn prime rib dinner with a baked potatoes, house veggies, and chocolate martinis is; it is expensive!!! A usual dinner for two will always run about $200. second reason is the more time in between waiting for special occasions to come up the more I appreciate the taste of everything. The more I wait the more I grow a hunger for the meal, my mouth waters right now just thinking of the juicy pink meat. How do I relate personally to the mouthwatering piece of meat? One the seared peppercorn layer that is slightly spicy and adds a little kick is my outside layer. I tend to put some spice to things you can call it attitude. From the beginning of things I will always make it clear that there is fire/spice behind this girl. For the most part this attitude is good for it is clear that I am no joke. The juicy perfectly pink fall apart meat is me on the inside. The juiciness is my passion that runs through me. If and when you cut in; those juices of passion, humor, sadness, compassion, excitement, crazy, silliness, kid at heart, mean, pain in the ass are all the juices that keep me going and make me, me. The meat itself is my solid being. No matter how you choose to prepare the meat it is still meat. Like myself no matter what you do or how you treat me I remain the same. I keep real and never change or turn into chicken, pork, or lamb.

Question: What makes a person add cheeses and pepperoni to flat bread?
Hypothesis: Like everyone knows, people love to add things to everything whether it is food or otherwise.
Question: Why when there is a lot of food to choose from I stick with pepperoni pizza? Am I a person that is scared of change?
Pizza is something known around the world. Pizza is not just a food found in it is birthplace of Italy. Everywhere I seem to go if I get hungry I pass every type of food and jump to pizza. While vacationing in El Salvador there is a lot of different food to choose from because it is a country full of culture. Some of the culture that there is, is Mayan (Spanish Indian) Spanish, and Pilipino. One can imagine what types of food there is, like pupusas (cheese in a tortilla), fried bananas with beans, and chilie rellenos. With some of the best food in the world I want pizza. Of course I ate some of the different types of food, but my taste pallets were missing pizza. I went to pizzeria, and while waiting for my pizza I saw people eating the pizza with a fork and knife. I stood there stunned, yet I wanted to yell “Why are you eating pizza like that?”
Different cultures eat pizza differently. I eat pizza like most pizza do, like a pig with my hands. If my boyfriend would let me I would a whole medium pizza by myself. I am bug girl so I can eat a lot. Food is a source of life, but I take it to the next level. If people take a look at me they might think I am over weight, but I say I am “Voluptuous” so in order to keep my voluptuous figure I need to eat. Pizza can be symbols of fat people, but pepperoni pizza is a symbol of pimples. Luckily I do not get pimples eating people just get fat. I feel I will eat pizza till something causes me to stop like I if I get food poisoning or if I find a hair in it. Pizza is a big part of my life and I know I will it enjoyed it for a long time.

At His Disposal
I have had the honor of sharing my catholic faith with Mother Teresa. Growing up in the church, she was often used as an example of how one should live their life. Over the years, I have heard many first hand accounts on working directly with such a wonderful figure. Stories of faith, famine, and destitution were often included in such accounts. The undesirable circumstances in which she willingly put herself into has always, to me, been a pure testament of her faith. It is through the assigned reading that I have learned of her deepest, most sincere thoughts about faith- or, perhaps, lack thereof. It is a story that closely relates to my life, and one in which I can sympathize with.
The acknowledgement of one's lack of faith is difficult, especially when seen as a role model for having such "strong" faith. I currently work at a Christian TV show. My husband, also in ministry, is a youth minister. Everything about me is seen under the context of being Christian. Beyond the exterior, however, is a deep struggle that I do not often divulge. I, like that of Mother Teresa, struggle with the simple idea of faith. It is in this struggle that I often feel alone, for people who hold high expectations of me when it comes to the faith, constantly surround me. Alone I ponder the "what if" questions that often plague my mind. It is in this struggle, however, that I continue to press on, for I know, deep down, that there is a God and that He loves me! It is as Mother Teresa says, "it often happens that those who spend their time giving light to others, remain in darkness themselves" (paragraph 3).

qhq- Rearing up a chicken
Question: What ingredients are needed to make chicken adobo?
Answer: One would need chicken, garlic, soy sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper, and ginger
Question: Why is this process time consuming?
Though it is quite simple to make, the challenge lies in the amount of time used in preparation of this dish. First one would need to mix in the ingredients to make a sauce in which the chicken is marinated in. Obviously the ingredients are not of the sweet sort. If this dish were to use less salty tasting ingredients, this would leave the end result rather dull. This process affirms the chicken its soul. Just like any other soul, it is made up of odd and sometimes extreme components or personalities. Now one would need to leave the chicken to marinade in this sauce overnight. Perfection never happens instantaneously, and just like wine, it only gets better with time. The next step is to deep fry the chicken. In this “trial by fire” step, the chicken is cooked. Though its purpose is simple enough to grasp, there is an underlying significance. Depending on how one deep fries the chicken, the end result can vary significantly, just as how no two human beings go through the same adolescence due to the differences in experience. With watchful care the chicken can attain near perfection, not too tender, not too rough. Lastly after the chicken is cooked, it is tossed back into the marinade mix and left to simmer until the sauce thickens finally endowing the chicken with its own unique character, personality, and most importantly, flavor.
hah okay so, sam is pretty gullible :P

Question: Why do I love my mom’s cooking?
Hypothesis: I Love my mom’s cooking because it comes from her heart.
Question: Does she put an extra ingredient while she’s cooking in order for you to like it more.
Answered: Even if she does or not I would still eat it. She gives us food and she becomes creative in there. She would make the simplest things to complex ingredients. She does a wonderful chef at our house. She becomes so creative that I would rather eat there than at any restaurant. We might not have the luxury of having an expensive kitchen but my mom does a wonderful job cooking with the cheapest appliances. In other cases she does not use appliances to stir, chop, dice, or even a cook book. She does what feels right or in a case, she forgets the ingredient but her body remembers. But in any case my mom makes some wildest things. For example, she would make eggs, mea t and vegetables all in one meal and it would really look like a spider was on top of my dinner. Well that has been my experience with one of my mom’s cooking. By the way she forces s to eat like a family, so we all eat at the table but at different times. so that what my favorite food is. My favorite food is what my mom makes me.

Question: Why is chicken, mashed potatoes and collard greens such a delicious combination of food?
Hypothesis: It is a delectable combination of food because there are so many flavors and different combinations of textures setting off in your mouth.
Question: Why is it one of my favorite dishes and how does it represent my personality, culture, and identity?
Answers: It is one of my favorite dishes because I like any form of chicken, I love mashed potatoes, and I love the taste and feel of collard greens in my mouth. This particular dish represents my personality by the fact that I am a simple person. All these foods are easy to create and just as they are simple to make, I am a much uncomplicated person. Also, these foods come from nature in some way, such as, the chicken was born in nature, and the potatoes and greens were grown naturally. I was born of natural consequences, but mainly I am one who takes life unpretentiously. I go with whatever life may throw at me. Furthermore, I am very soft person, but I do have a little bite to me like the collard greens. Even though I am an easy going and down-to-earth person, there are times where I am very versatile as well. Just as the chicken can be prepared in different styles like: fried, baked, broiled, roasted, sautéed, etc., I am one who has unusual qualities. I do and say things that others may deem as weird, but I believe everyone has a little strangeness in them; they just do not let it out all the time. I am a simple, easy going person who has a very eccentric character.
Culture wise, I am an array of different types of cultures. The stereotypical chickens as well as the collard greens are a part of my African American heritage. Black people do like their chicken, especially fried and the greens are known as “soul food”, which is Black people food as well. I also have Irish in me. The greens represent the color that not only signify the Irish people, but the vast, beautiful, green land of Ireland. In addition, I am part Indian American and some form of Islander. Therefore, I am like the mashed potatoes because I have a lot of cultures mashed and mixed within me.
How this dish identifies me is it shows that I love soul food. I love all food, but mainly soul food because it is the type of home cooked meals I grew up on. There is nothing better than my mother’s home cooked meals.

In the story of Going To Meet the man by James Baldwin, he explains how a coorupted cop named jesse was going to pay for his sins he had done while he was growing. the ironic part is that he had a wife named grace(dosent sayed if ther were married or not) but his sins were to heavy for him to have. what he had done was unexplanable, and unforgiable. he beat the crap out of a kid, witness a black man being punished to death, and orderd a mail ordere bride and did her. in the end of the story, his sins as well as caugth up to him during his time with grace.he was thinking about cheating her and go get a black hooker and do her. it never sayed what really happen but i just only assume it was something terrible.

Question: What is my favorite food?
Hypothesis: My favorite food is chicken parmesan.
Question: What is it about chicken parmesan that makes me like it so much?
I love almost any type of Italian food, but chicken parmesan is my ultimate favorite. I like it because it combines so many good flavors. I love the way the cheese, chicken, noodles and sauce taste together. I think I like it so much because it is really just a basic food, nothing too crazy. I am picky when it comes to food, and this does not have anything that I do not like in it. My favorite place to get this meal is Villa Nova. Villa Nova has the best chicken parmesan because it is an authentic Italian. I also like to eat it when my mom makes it. I think this food is my favorite because it is not really common, and it is not something that you can get wherever you go. I only get to eat it probably once a month, but every time I eat it, I love it even more. I actually had never had chicken parmesan until about a year ago. My friend Caroline made it for me, and I loved it. Ever since then, whenever I see it on a menu, I order it no questions asked. What makes it good to me is the way the chicken and the sauce taste together. I also like that it is not red meat with the spaghetti noodles. I try not to eat red meat, so it is a good way to stay away from that but still have spaghetti. I like that I do not eat it all the time because when I do eat it I enjoy it even more. It is my favorite food because it is not something that I get everyday, so I do not get tired of it. I think everyone should try chicken parmesan.

Going To Meet the Men...
When Mr. Hsiao told us to read the story and to ask former students some questions about the stories, they told me that the story was about raping, having the mind corrupt, the power of being a policemen, taking advantage of black women and many other things, i think they over exagerrated. I did not get the extremity of raping a black women, i did get that it was sad and how does his childhood come into the men Jesse (main character) is as an adult. I thought it was going to be more suspense, i wanted it to be, but no... It was still a pretty good story to pass the time... I liked it overall... I wished i could have read more about the abuse of taking advantaged of black women instead of his past... I am not saying the past was boring, just that the story needed more push into the power he had and took advantage towards black women...

Grammy Museum
The Grammy Museum was a really fun experience. I was amazed at all the artifacts they had. I really liked the handwritten lyrics from artist such as Jimmy Hendrix , Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. I like how the museum was set up, with all the videos showing the progress of all the different genres of music. I especially loved the outfits they had displayed, Jennifer Lopez dress and Kanye West outfits. My favorite were Micheal Jackson jackets. I liked how a section of the museum was a tribute to the king of pop. It was a real exciting trip. I think the best part was the museum had information from artists from generations ago but it also had something from artist of today so all ages can enjoy the museum. They focused on time changing events, record breaking, stereotype breaking events like Micheal Jackson winning award after award, or the rise of black artists, even Eminem performing with Elton John; a gay man and even the picture they had with Tupac and Kiss. It made me think about the influence of music, how artist that my parents grew up listening to still are popular in my generation and how color doesn’t matter in the music world.
Going to meet The man:
Graphic...really graphic
the thing that stands out the most to me is the irony in the story, how he compares the black man at the picnic to his father..points out the similarities between them yet doesn't think anything of the black man being tortured. Also how he hates black people yet gets aroused just from thinking about the women. He is a control freak, power hungry. Also the singing bothers him so much because he knows they are singing to God.

Going to Meet the Man
In GTMTM I find an allegory. The literal story is one set in the thick of the Civil Rights Era [1960's] post MLK's famous speech at the capitol. The main character has had his psyche formed in such an obscene way in that his parents take him to witness a lynching when he is a child. He speaks of his mother in a flashback: "she was more beautiful than he had ever seen her and more strange. He began to feel a joy he never felt before. He watched the hanging, gleaming body, the most beautiful and terrible object he had ever seen till then." If applying Freud's oedipus complex, one might see in the text that this sexual conflict within the child is welded together with violence by the searing hot, traumatic scene before him at "the picnic".
The underlying moral is God's final judgement. Grace represents Christ for this "God-fearing" man. He goes back in forth throughout the story facing her and turning away from her. at times he aches to simply cry on her shoulder and avoid all responsibility. Christ gives him another shot at the end, but he cannot bring himself to accept this last attempt at salvation. it is the ultimate betrayal marked by, as it marked Peter's betrayal, the rooster's crow at sunrise. The difference here, though, is that this is the day he is going to meet The Man, and he will be without Grace/Christ, the only one who can argue on his behalf.

Question: Why is it so important that whenever I eat out my entree consist of side orders accompanied by a large portion of chicken?
Hypothesis: Chicken is easily complemented by a variety of things. Depending on my mood, I can accommodate my meal to fit my craving.
Question: How does my appetite give an insight to who I am?
Like so much of our daily routine our eating habits are can give someone an interesting sight at what one person’s identity is. I’ll start by saying I am a huge chicken fanatic, if there is such a thing. Both of my parents grew up in Lima, Peru where chicken is often the main course of someone’s meal. Although my family’s recipes usually derive from some sort of poultry, Peru is definitely not the only place where you can find a tasty piece of my favorite food. I find it easy to go to any type of restaurant and pick up a freshly cooked portion. I love the variety of tastes that come when ordering chicken. I want to learn a lot about cultures around me I plan to travel when I get older but because I don’t have the funds I usually try and go eat at different types of restaurants all with food from different parts of the world. From Indian to Brazilian to French food all these places have delicious plates highlighting this tender meat. Like the meat, I associate myself to different cultures and appreciate the uniqueness of each. Still I try to always remain myself. I always go back to ordering chicken. In fact I do this so much my friends tease me about it. If there is one thing I am proud of it’s the loyalty I have to that which is dear to me. I am loyal to my family, my friends, and of course my chicken. But I am human and although my devotion to these things usually prevails, I sometimes slip and order fish. Because of the guilt that I get whenever I act and hurt someone I love I usually like to stay in a comfort zone. To me ordering chicken means knowing that I will be satisfied and will enjoy my meal. It is my safety net when it comes to food. My parents often tell me I should see what else is on the menu. I agree. I cannot be classified into one persona. I am both sweet and sour.

MLK/Obama
I read both speeches and my heart was moved by both speeches. I started with Obama speech first I did get a little choked up with it. Reading about how Ann Nixon Cooper was 106 years old and finally voting for a black man touched me. Being woman, and being a minority I have a general idea of how she must of felt. Honestly what I felt is probably 5 percent of what she felt. She has been through racist America, women equal rights, the depression and war. All I can do is just admire such a woman that she lived through all the hard times she went through. I know some people think because I am Latina I should have 5 kids with no education. Obviously I have only 1 child and I am going to school. I may not know what I want to major in, but I going to work hard to get there.
Now with the both speeches they talked about their children. Their hope in life if that their children will be able to be treated like equals. They want their children to be treated with respect, and to judge by their character not the color of their skin. Just because a child is white it does not mean they are better of a child of color. Every child is innocent till the horror of world changes them.
To me both the speeches are symbols of family and of course equality. MLK just really wanted to live in a world of equality for his family the people of his time. Obama basically want the something, but luckily now we live in a time that equality is in reach.

Question: Why is a bowl of Phở so delicious?
Hypothesis: It is a tasty blend of many flavors brought together in a single bowl, and it is a common traditional Vietnamese cuisine.
Question: Why do I always eat Phở every week and how does it represent my personality, culture, and identity?
Who doesn’t like Phở? It is so delicious and full of flavors, it is almost impossible to dislike! On top of that, there are various entrees of the famous Phở noodle soup. My parents often take me to go to church at various Vietnamese churches, but honestly I do not really understand everything because the Vietnamese priests talk very fast. I do not complain about going to a Vietnamese church because at the end of mass I know I’m headed to an exquisite Vietnamese restaurant. Almost Every weekend, you can catch me somewhere in Orange County eating and enjoying a bowl of Phở. I usually order a traditional Phở Dac Biet, which is a special combination bowl. It usually consists of rice noodle with eye round steak, flank, tendon, brisket, and tripe all in a very delicious and flavorful soup. Occasionally, I will order one of my favorite dishes, Phở Ga, which is a rice noodle soup with chicken. Sounds simple you might say. However, it is very tricky to get the right blend of ingredients in order to have a wonderful and delicious taste that will leave my mouth watering. I guess you could say that I am an expert on Phở noodle soup as I have grown to eat literally thousands of bowls of Phở ever since I was a child. I grew up to love my mother’s home cooked dishes that she made very often in my childhood days. Nowadays my mother doesn’t often prepare these meals on a regular basis due to the time and effort that is involved. For a delicious and authentic bowl of Phở, one must prepare and slow cook the soup for a day or more. But who says you have to cook it authentic? You can also cook it a fast and cheap way that takes less than an hour and is also quite delicious. There are so many dishes to choose from, it is quite hard for me to get tired of eating Phở.

Possitive: This website is very helpful and good at providing advice on how to perform better academically. I like how they give information to those with full time schedules outside of school and those who are straight out of high school. I think the weekly poll and social network links are good for people who are interested in that.
Negative: I really do not have anything negative to say about the site other than the home page should give more information on what the site is about. If I had not heard about the site at school and just came across it by myself I do not think I would stay on it for too long because it is not obvious what iFalcon is about.

Mlk/Obama Speech
I really enjoyed both speeches. What MLK has sought for, has greatly been taking effect. Times have changed and most importantly for the better. As time continues, America has become a greater melting pot of the world. Racism and discrimination will always be around but is becoming less of a practice. Obama has a great impact of what America stands for. Freedom. By becoming our new president of a different skin color, he has shown that America has greatly evolved from its prejudice ways. We are now becoming much more as a united peoples.

President Obama's Acceptance Speech
I was in class like, Sandra infact we were in the same class together when I announced that Barack Obama had won the election. My boyfriend sent me the text message and I raised my hand, interrupted the teacher, and said he won! My teacher said she did not want to show her feelings but had a huge smile and said yes! I think we all were happy in that class that night. I personally was happy because I was ready to see some changes in our government. I voted for President Obama so my vote did not go to waste. This was the first time I was able to read the entire speech because I was only able to see clips on the news that night. I think he made a good speech, one that made us feel that change was comming. I am still waiting to see some of this change. I do have faith that we will restore our prestege as the great United States of America. My favorite part of the speech is the part where he thanks his wife because he knows, unlike most men, that without women in their lives men would be nothing.

The Grammy Museum
Though my boyfriend and I were somehow unable to find the meeting place for the bus, we managed to locate Alondra Hot Wings which came as a great relief. I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak with out the cheese and with the “works” and it was very delicious. At the Grammy museum, the first thing we looked at was the table with all the music genres. It was really cool to be able to listen to three or so samples of each kind and then see what music styles are related. We spent a lot of time at this activity because we would keep choosing ones that were related, like a never ending story. Specifically, we were really excited when we found Bright Eyes on it because it is our favorite band. Also, we met each other at the concert two years ago so it holds a special place in our hearts. The second thing we enjoyed was the movie clips from the 50’s to now about music and its influences on the culture of the time. I enjoyed the 60’s and 70’s the most because they were all about the counterculture and the punks. It was really exciting to see Michael Jackson’s elaborate jackets, they were detailed and it was weird to think that at one time he was wearing them. My boyfriend particularly liked the room where you could try the musical instruments, he formed quite a bond with the piano one, almost to an embarrassing point. I liked the drums because I have always wanted to try drums but for lack of skill and because they are so loud, I never had. The cool thing about the drums in the museum was that no one heard how bad or good you were doing. Lastly, I really liked seeing the outfits of some of the stars including Katy Perry’s fruit dress and Jennifer Lopez’s provocative green dress. I would have liked seeing Kanye West’s jacket and band uniform, but I am still mad at him for his recent “stunt” at the VMA’s.

my one food that i believe is the most signifigant to me is the milanesa torta that my uncle would prepare at his restaurant in mexico. now while i have tried ordering the same thing at other places in the states i noticed that none could ever compare to the ones that my uncle made for me. with that evidence i have never ordered that dish unless my uncle was the one making it. maybe it was the fact that my uncle made it or maybe it was just know that i loved my uncle so much that when i thought of the milanesa all i could think of was were the good times in mexico with my cousins and family. all i do know is that this dish will forever be my uncles alone and that i still look forward to the day that i go back and get to enjoy there company again.
The Grammy Museum.
never been there before yet it was fun. i mean i am not one for mainstream music yet when going through the music archives i noticed that they had many genres that are not even played on the radio. i was just glad that other forms of music were being noticed not my how much publisity they recieved but rather by just being recognized as an art style in itself.

always a mind blower, because it seems that no matter how twisted it may seem it still amazing to know that this is within the walls of reality. i for one can somewhat know what the boy is going through in the sense that you just grow up experiancing things first hand without limits. these things that consume us with love and cause us to strive for it over and over just to have that feeling of nirvana. in the end i just find it interesting how literal the story can be but still have so much sybolism within it aswell.

I Have a Dream - Martin Luther King Jr.
I had never read or heard this whole speech before. I have known about it of course from past history classes but never took the time to sit down and read it or even hear the whole thing. Today I did both. I read the speech. Then went on www.youtube.com and watched/heard the speech as I read along. It was so....perfect. I mean, the writing itself was great and the way it was delivered was just as great. Martin Luther King Jr. was so eloquent and wrote/said some of the best metaphors since JC was around. His speech was inspiring. My favorite part of it was when he compared America and freedom as a bank and check. He said, "Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, American has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient funds'." Brilliant. Simply brilliant. His words were like daggers. They reached the depths of people's hearts and souls back in 1963 and did the same to me in 2009. I always thought that this speech started with "I have a dream" but it is not until line 17 when Dr. King begins to say it. This was a remarkable speech in a remarkable time. It spoke many truths and can still speak many truths now.

MLK- I Have a Dream
I find Dr. Kings speech to be a very emotional and heart-felt speech. I love the way he clearly states how we should all be treated equal and how one day we all shall. He's speech not only relates to African Americans but to many minorities that are not treated as we should, fair. It’s hard to believe that till this day we have to deal with the KKK and racist people every day. I personally can say that I've been called many racist names by people who are full of anger, who do not want minorities here. Its sad, but no matter what we have to remember to keep on pushing and keep moving. This particular speech reminds me of being in the 3rd grade and studding about the Civil Rights movement. I remember sitting in front of the computer with my partner and listening to the powerful words of this speech. Even as a young child I remember how amazed we were by his speech and how perfectly we knew it was very unfair how slaves were treated during those days.

Question: Why can I not stop craving the Benihana dipping sauce for seafood and vegetables?
Hypothesis: The sauce really is that good; I just cannot stop thinking about it.
Question: Will I ever stop wanting to eat it and how does it represent my personality?
Answer: I truly hope that I will never get tired of eating at Benihana or eating the vegetable dipping sauce. I can be eating something else at a different restaurant and think that it would taste a lot better if I had the sauce. I enjoy eating at Benihana not only because of the environment; since I have been there so many times it does not amuse me anymore. The food really is delicious. I have also tried taking the food to go or eating the leftovers and it just does not taste the same. The best time to eat it is when the chef puts it on your plate. I basically drown my food in this sauce. I ask for two vegetable sauces instead of one beef sauce because it just not that great to me. I try not to go very often so I do not get tired of it but sometimes I will go Friday with friends then Saturday with my boyfriend. I cannot get enough. This restaurant is my favorite because it is where my boyfriend and I like to celebrate our anniversaries together because the food is so good. We just cannot make plans for after because we get too full and sleepy to do anything else. I think it represents my personality in that I need some kind of spice or sauce with all of my food or just does not taste good to me. It is very rare that I find a dish where I do not feel the need to add condiments. I also enjoy the environment of the restaurant itself. I typically do not like to sit near the chef because I do not want to see my food being made just in case there is some inappropriate handling of my food. At Benihana I have never had this issue. They are very sanitary and neat so I feel that my food is safe. I try not to think of what they do to the food before they bring it out to be cooked but I trust that they handle it professionally. I recommend this restaurant to anyone because even though it is a Japanese restaurant the menu suits many people’s taste. I personally like to order the Hibachi chicken or shrimp, Rocky’s choice, Delux treat, and my very favorite Benihana Delight. All of this is severed with steamed or fried rice, grilled vegetables, and shrimp. Even if I get red meat I will still drown it is the vegetable dipping sauce not the meat one. They will also serve you onion soup and a house salad that has the same or a very similar dressing as the vegetable sauce. I think the key ingredient in both is ginger but I am not exactly sure. Either way I cannot resist the restaurant, the food, or the sauce.

Mother Teresa
I found the quotes and story of Mother Teresa's internal struggle to be very interesting. It is very amazing that someone can be so devoted to God, but at the same time feel as though you have lost faith. For me the thought of nuns and how devoted they are perplexes me but to be unsure on top of all that faith is truly astonishing. Personally, I am not religious what so ever which may be why it was so hard for me to relate to. What Mother Teresa struggled with was very dark and that is not something I would normally associate with someone devoting their life to God. She must have been very strong to not give in, even in times of great loneliness and being surrounded with poverty, disease, and death. Her writing seemed to show a feeling of martyrdom, especially when she compares her feelings to that of Jesus. She imagines what it feels like to take on the sins of the world and to be cast away from that which you love, God. To survive such a deep inner struggle between believing and complete disbelief makes me realize that some of the petty things we struggle over are really worthless. I do not think that if I was in her shoes I could hold out against the temptations that life brings. Mother Tessera has made an impact on the world with her devotion to helping others even in times of deep moral struggle.

Question: Why is it s carne asada burrito so good?
Hypothesis: It is good because it is a little parts my Mexican culture.
Question: What is the reason that I order this plate and how it represents my personally, culture, and identity you ask?
Answer: I was not born in Mexico like my parents did. When I went to Mexico I ate a real burrito and it was more than just good. I miss that great food and that culture a Mexican food. One of the reasons that I order that plate in my Mexican restaurant is because it is a memory of my trip to Mexico. The fun I had over there and the great food. It is the closes thing I have of my culture. In my childhood we were raised with just eating bean and rice and carne asada with tortillas. A burrito is a meal on a plate, but to go. The only thing I can think of is that it brings good memories that I had in life I do not remember. As soon as I take a bite all those memories come back. I have eating carne asada burritos since I was five and never stopped. The rice a bean reminds me of a story grandfather said when he survives just eating rice and beans when he had no money. The carne asada reminds me the good times I had with my grandfather eating carne asada in his yard. The spicy salsa is the funny thing my grandfather said that a true Mexican eats spicy salsa in all their meals. I loved my grandfather.
Grammy Museum
First off, I didn’t sign up to go to the museum since I wasn’t sure I could get the day off. But when Friday came, something told me I had to go! I called Bryan (my neighbor & classmate) and asked him to ask if Professor Hsiao had any extra space for me and surely he said yes! By that time I knew I would not make it to the school so I decided to wait at Alondra Hot Wings. When the bus got there, first I was amazed to see the charter bus (what happened to the old yellow school bus???) and second it was nice to see soo many students participate in the trip. I forgot to mention to Professor Hsiao that this place was a little small for all the students, but I’m pretty sure everyone made them-self’s comfortable. I introduced my boy-friend (George) to Professor Hsiao and it was soo funny how Prof. Hsiao mentioned to him a couple of things I said in class. He even convinced him to take off from his busy schedule and join us (wow!) As everyone got situated and as almost everyone had their food I asked the owner for their “special sauce” ATOMIC!! This sauce is no joke! I mean they make you sign a waiver in order to get a sample! And you CANT come to Alondra Hot Wings and not try their very well known Atomic sauce. I offered it around to everyone, but only TWO people were brave enough to try it (wow) Celina and her boy-friend Vince tried it… and yes they said it was way too hot... (Sorry) I felt bad afterwards…sorry… but I did warn you guys. Once arriving and getting out of the bus, Mr. Hsiao said we can leave our belongings in the bus since we had a trustworthy driver. I was cracking up sooo hard when Cathrinas friend told the bus driver he left a million dollars cash in his seat. It was soo random to say and soo funny. As we entered the Grammy Museum, we jumped in an elevator with the professor and some students. It was soo funny since the elevator shut its doors and as we waited for a few seconds the doors opened once more only to find out we were still in the same floor. Lol.. We tried it again and apparently the elevator didn’t like us. We eventually jumped out and went on another one. A memorable thing in the museum was looking at many of the artifacts they had on display. They had soo many things artist once owned, and even the pieces of paper that lyrics to famous songs were written on. My favorite was reading the lyrics from a famous song Taylor Swift wrote “Tim McGraw.” I could imagine her writing that song scribbling on that sheet of paper. I was amaze to see the collection they had of Michael Jackson’s attire, each piece of clothing I saw had its own unique pattern and set of colors. Its amazing how soo many little beads can form such a big work of ark. Going on to the next floor, the first thing we noticed was the band set they had; it was really nice to be able to interact with the guitars and the drums. The setup really makes you feel like a rock star. George and I had so much fun playing with the beat machine they had and the pianos. It’s nice to be able to interact with many of the instruments amazing musicians use. Also, I loved the way you were able to go into the little rooms and make your own beats, mix a song, edit a song, and also mess with the vocals. It was soo nice to see how the videos propped you on what to do. After the museum, we headed to Lucky Stike. It was a nice place but the service kind of sucks… we waited forever to get our food and drinks, oh and even the tab... We went bowling afterwards with Celina, Vince, Cathrina, and her friend.. Ohh man, I must admit.. I suck at bowling!! Lol..
On a side note: Special Thanks to Bryan!!! I owe you big time!!! Mr. Hsiao for the fun experience & convincing George && Mr. Bus driver for getting us there and back safely!!
Side note #2: Did you guys see that u-turn!! Dang!! Bravo!!
Side note #3: I’m soo happy most (more like all) of you guys enjoyed Alondra Hot Wings!! =D
&& Raul!! Albert’s on Firestone is the bomb!!! =D They opened one in Bellflower recently off Alondra! ;-)

Grammys Museum
To be honest, I really did not know what to expect with this museum. Being a person who does not keep up with award shows, I really knew nothing about the Grammys award itself (Is this the music one, or the acting one?). I thought that my boyfriend would be able to go with us and he could meet everyone from class, but he was not able to make it, which bummed me out because I had to pay 15 extra dollars. As soon as I did though, I was over it.
When familiar faces started to show, I became very excited about the trip. Prior to this, I had not gotten to talk very much to old friends from last year, so it was a very nice “reunion” to just stand around and talk.
Once we got in the bus, we were all very excited for the trip to Alondra Wings. I felt like it was too early in the morning, but once I walked into the joint and saw the menu, I was instantly hungry. I had a buffalo chicken strip sandwich, which was awesome. I mean, literally, I had the best sandwich ever (and I told the owner, too!). The people were very nice; unlike the place I had expected (a greasy, small, stuffy place), I found myself eating at a place I would definitely recommend to other people. Jessica, thanks for the recommendation. I'll definitely be recommending this place to my friends, too!!
Once we got off the bus at the museum, I saw this huge building with 3 pictures on them. I had recognized the computer graphic of characters that looked to be Final Fantasy characters. I was already excited (Tom had commented on my excitement for a Japanese game. He said, “You don’t see me dancing around for a taco joint across the street, do you?” He had us laughing for the rest of the day).
When we got inside, we (Cianna, Tom, Jon, Betsy, Kayla, Greg, and I) immediately decided to stay in a group. We were immediately confused with the set-up of the museum, but we decided to start at the top and work our way down. The 4th floor was our first stop. I immediately went over to the headphones and started to copy others by tapping on the table as if it was a touch screen. There was a selection screen being projected on the table, and it actually acted as a touch screen. I began to listen to different songs by different genres. I love how music can take different forms.
We broke off and looked at the displays by ourselves; I was having so much fun listening to the narrations of the punk era (I am so fascinated by that whole movement).
When we had moved on to the 3rd floor, Tom and Jon immediately took a guitar and a drum and started jamming out. We could not hear a thing, because we did not have the headphones on. Cianna started to sing into a microphone and did not realize until after, that we could all hear her. She was mad at me for not telling her, but I think everyone enjoyed it. ;]
The best part about the day was going into the booth and having a rap session. Jon, Tom, Betsy, Cianna and I had way too much fun for an educational field trip. I am sure we will be listening to the result of this session in class.
Bowling was pretty fun, although it was very expensive. The servers there were pretty grumpy (One guy was even cussing very loudly about another server. We could all hear him, too. I thought it was very unprofessional) and inattentive, but at least my root beer float was very yummy. :]
At the end of the day, I had realized I made 2 new friends, Betsy and Andy! I made new friends on top of a great field trip! I've got to say, this is the best way to earn extra credit!!
One last reflection on the museum: I like how this museum made me realize that music has played a huge role in the past. It has been a very powerful tool as an expression of the people, and it has given me goose bumps seeing the artifacts that proved it all. This really proves how music is not only used as a form of entertainment, but it really is a tool for people to express themselves.

Question:Why do i consider my mom's and grandma's(my mom's mom) croquetas and seafood paella a most enjoyable and delicious dish?
Hypothesis:I love when my mom and grandma decide to make a Spanish dish. Everytime they do everyone is happy and the food comes out perfect.
Question:Why do I look forward to the day when my mom and grandma make some more seafood paella and croquetas?
I believe that everytime my mom decides to cook up some seafood paella and my grandma makes the croquetas it brings out that "happy family" time in all of us. My grandma always has a different story of where her dad came from and how he met my great grandmother. I really enjoy hearing about some of my Spanish ancestry. Everyone gatheres around and pays close attention because it is just so interesting listening about the life my grandma used to have as a child. It is also satisfying to see my mom open up and crack a couple of jokes of her childhood too. She usually tries to make fun of my dad but it's even funnier when my dad has a even better comeback because my dad is one of the funniest persons I know. Even though he does not talk any english, I still understand some of the spanish jokes and hilarious metaphors he comes up with. Everywhere I look someone is smiling or laughing and this makes me extra happy because I am not really used to my family always being this happy. After all the jokes are done and my grandma's life stories have come to an end it is time to eat. The seafood paella which consists of yellow rice and all kinds of seafood is the best and my personal favorite. I like to dig into the shrimp and crab legs in there, not to mention the chicken legs that are burried somewhere inside the rice. It's like an adventure where I am looking for the delicious treasure. Croquetas are a very delightful treat also. My favorite are the chicken croquetas. They are just so tender and easy to eat. I don't even have to use a fork or knife to eat. I can just pick it up, dip in in the mayonnaise, and off to my mouth it goes. When all the food is gone usually everyone is very tired. Some of us go to sleep and others go and watch t.v. I usually go to bed because I'm stuffed and think about the good time I had with my family. I think about my great grandfather and great grandmother and wonder how their life must have been. I think about how one day I would like to go to Spain for a visit. I have many ideas in my head and after all the heavy thinking i find myself dozing off to the sound of the television of the living room. After a couple of minutes I am usually sound asleep with a happy memory that I would someday hope to share with my childrens children just like my grandma did for us that day.

One good thing I like about i falcon is that you can see how students are successful and how how i can learn from them. I see this through the students blogg. Also it tells how to be successful. The word falcon tells you a lot. f stands for focus, a stands for advance, l stands for link up, c stands for conprehension, o stands for organized and n stands for new ideas. That is what some of my teachers tell me if i want to successful. I think that is the most inportant subject in the site.

Question: How are enchiladas made?
Hypothesis: Making enchiladas only takes 30 minutes to make.
Question: Why are enchilada served to me every time I go to mexico?
Answer: Making enchiladas does not take a very long time to make. There are not many ingredients you need to make delicious enchiladas. Cheese, tortillas, onions, tomatoes, chile, lettuces and sour cream are the only ingredients you need. You dip the tortilla in a chile mix, you can find enchilada salsa at any grocery store. After dipping the tortilla in the mix you place it in a pan filled with cooking oil. You only leave the tortilla in for a second, enough to flip back and forth. When you take out the tortilla, you will be able to put any of the ingredients you would like. It does not take a long time to prepare this great dish. I remember every December when my family and I would go visit my grandparents in mexico. They would always prepare a special dinner made especially for us. Enchiladas were one of the main plates served for dinner as well as tacos and menudo. There are many different ways you can make them depending on what you like. Although you can make chicken enchiladas, I only like mine with cheese. Working at a mexican restaurant we serve enchiladas make of chicken, cheese, chile verde, chile colorado, ground beef, and shredded beef. The mexican food we sale is more Americanized and there for it does not have the same taste. Nevertheless the mexican food we serve is very delicious.

Question: Why do I love tamales at Christmas time so much?
Hypothesis: Making tamales for this certain holiday has been a tradition in my family for years to all get together and make tamales and then enjoy then days later at our Christmas Eve celebration.
Question: Why do I enjoy the process of making the tamales with my family and how does it represent my culture and my family?
As far back as I can remember Christmas has always been tamale making time. I remember as a little kid being stuck having to wash the corn husks for the adults to be able to put all the ingredients in on clean leaves. My aunts, uncles and cousins would all meet at my grandma’s house and get mentally ready for the long day ahead. I was not allowed to help with the making of the tamales until I was 12 and I remember always being sad I could not because it looked like so much fun to me. The year I did get to help I realized that it was not as much fun as I thought it be. The people that were in charge of waking up early to buy the masa would show up and we would get right to it. My mom was in charge of making the meat that went inside the tamales, so we would set that up in some bowls on the table, and the masa on another bowl. We sat on the round table and each one of us had a job. We either spread the masa on the husks or put the meat in. It usually takes about 5-6 hours every year. I remember one year, I think it was in 2006, we spent all day, literally all day making tamales. We got together at my house that year and started from 10 AM to about 6 or 7 PM. It was a long day but filled with many fun times spent with the family. We usually do around 50 to 60 pounds of masa so that keeps us busy all day. When Christmas Eve comes and it is finally time for us to eat them, the people that spent the day making them always want to be the first to try them. We get to be the first ones to try them after all the hard work that we put into them. This time is always very special for our family because we can sit and remember all the good times, tell stories and of course make funny memories in the process. My grandma, as far as I can remember, was always the heart of our family and she was the one that brought this tradition so we do it for her and her memory. I hope to keep this tradition alive for many years to come to make more wonderful memories.

Question: Why do I love Pei Wei’s Spicy Noodles with Chicken so much?
Hypothesis: Because the combination of the crisp vegetables with the soft noodles, hot chicken, and spicy red sauce dance on my taste buds and make me happy.
Question: What do I order this at least once a week and what does it say about my personality?
Answer: For the last two years I have been obsessed with Spicy Noodles with Chicken from Pei Wei. My best friend introduced it to me exactly two years ago when I lived across the street from Bella Terra. The restaurant was very close to my apartment and it was very convenient for me to just call in my order after a long day at work and then pick it up on my way home. In fact, I eat there so much that they know my voice on the phone when I call and just tell me to be there in 10 minutes. This is my absolute favorite food because the vegetables are always fresh and crisp and all my favorites. It comes with snap peas, carrots, tomatoes, green onion and is decorated with cilantro. The combination of these vegetables makes my mouth water just thinking about how nice they taste together and how crispy the snap peas are. Then the vegetables are complimented by hot steamy noodles swimming in a spicy red sauce with sporadic chunks of chicken mixed in. I think this mixture says a lot about how I am because I feel like I am a well rounded person who has great characteristics and when they are all put together is an awesome person. For example, I can be very gregarious yet shy, and I am loud but can be timid. I can be very giving of my time, money, and emotions but I always know when to say no and when enough is enough. Just like each ingredient in Spicy Noodles with Chicken compliments the other, so do my personalities which is why this is my favorite food and also says a lot about who I am.

Cons: I really don't have any neg comment. i think its koo that students can talk about what they feel and how they handle school. Everyone is different and just beacuse you do not agree with someone it dosent mean they are wrong. Everyone is always going to disagree at one point or another, and i respect that. that is why i have nothing neg to say.
Positive: i really liked how they have a tour video if your knew at school. I know when i first came here i was so lost. The fist day of school i bumped into an old friend and it took long but i finally convinced him to show me around. It turned out that my friend had wrote the wromg class numbers down. If i had known about the video i mould have watched it fisrt.

Martin Luther King jr. I have a dream is my favorite. It talks about how he wants to change the world. He wants African Americans be free. Also the racisms and hate crimes. He wants slaves and slave owners be able to treated egually. He wants that all Gods children be treated equally and not by they look like. In todays time we have change a lot but we still struggle hate crimes and racisms . how are we going to change that.

Just a few things I want to comment on. I read a fellow classmates post about how hip-hop and rap has turned into lyrics about sex, drugs, money, and derogatory to women. I have to agree with her. How are women portrayed in videos??? The bigger breast and arse you have the better. The less you wear is also important, right??? I enjoy dancing to all sorts of music even though I have no idea how; I have two big left feet. Any who I been at a club and on numerous occasions witness how women let derogatory comments acceptable. Ex: So my girlfriend and I are dancing to the music whatever song it may be, the DJ starts to mix in that song that says “there’s some hoes in this house” First my friend and I will always leave the dance floor, i/we will not be part of this. When I look to the dance floor it seems EVERY girl has their hands in the air so proud. I feel like they are saying “yes, I’m that hoe!!!” it’s like an anthem just came on and they participate so proud. Sex is everywhere, unfortunately. Today right before arriving at school I stopped at the local mini-mart. While paying for my Monster, gum, and cigarettes I looked up and noticed the prepaid calling cards. 90% of the calling cards had pictures of half naked women!!! What does a half naked woman have to do with calling cards?? On TV, in magazines, billboards, advertisements it’s sex sex sex. The “perfect” woman body 36-24-36. So every other woman that doesn’t fall into that measurement is no longer attractive, sexy, or appealing??? I see my 2 nieces who are 13 and 15 both very thin, defined, and what seems fully developed. The 13 year old is almost a size D cup the 15 year old is a full B cup BOTH complain about their breast!!! They are already talking about cosmetic surgery!!! WTF??? Not only are they wearing padded bras they also wear low cut shirts that totally show everything. One: how does my brother allow this?? Two: where are they learning it from?? At home, TV, EVERYWHERE!! I’m not trying to judge my brother but I find it strange that being a male and knowing how males think, he allows this. I’m not saying to put a potato sack over their bodies but there is a way to look cute and tasteful. I have two daughters 1 is 9 and the other almost 8 months. As far as my oldest girl I have NEVER purchased any Barbie or Brat’s dolls. I feel that when you let your girls play with such dolls you subconsciously create an image of they should look like. I encourage beauty in other forms: kindness, intelligence, being independent, what is on the inside. Not if you look and wear these things “you are hot and sexy” Sex sells everywhere because we buy into it. The other day I saw the “she wolf” video by Shakira SEX SEX SEX. Does anyone remember her before she went international?? She was the Hispanic Alanis Morrisett (is that how you spell it?) She never revealed to much skin, she always seemed so down to earth, almost this hippy like character. And now she is one of the biggest sex symbols. Don’t get me wrong I like her and her music but she gave in to the demand. Ok I’m gonna say she’s a sellout. Ok I think I’m done about that. See everyone in class

MLK/Obama speeches
After reading the MLK speech it made me reflect on all of the injustice that still goes on. But even though it still goes on it is not as rough as it was back then. I cannot imagine just how tough it was and for him to come out with a speech as strong as this is what without a doubt what brough change and had a big impact in America. I have read his "I Have a Dream" speech throughout elementary, middle school, and high school. Everytime I read it it's very touching especially when he mentions his four little children. Even though this speech was made for African Americans to be treated equally I think this speech can go out to all the races in the world who are looked down at as a minority and aren't still being treated equally. Reading this speech again made me think about the many different times i have been discriminated against and made me not lose hope that there are still people who can make an impact just like Martin Luther King Jr. did.

Since I grew up Catholic, I've been told many stories about Mother Teresa. And although I've always thought she was cool, I never really took the time to learn anything about her. This reading was definitely an eye opener. I'm actually really pleased to hear that a renowned saint such as Mother Teresa had problems with her faith. Ever since I actually began thinking for myself, I have also had trouble with my faith. However, unlike Mother Teresa, I decided I did not need faith in any religion or God to continue living my life as I please. I still stand by that, and have not regretted it since. But, I must admit, that I have often wondered if anything in my life would be easier, or much more clear, perhaps, if I did identify with a particular religion. It is for this reason, that I admire Mother Teresa for continuing on her search for faith. Not many people, myself included, have the determination or courage to keep looking for something that seems like its already been lost.

"At His Disposal" by Mother Teresa excerpt from Come Be My Light
I instantly connected with this reading because I am very religious and spiritual. However, I am not catholic but Christian. Some may say it is the same thing but I beg to differ. Anyways, back to the point, I believe in this whole reading she is talking about corrupt this world is without God. How unsettling the feeling of living without God is. She also speaks of how "life" is filled with pain and sorrow without the existence of God in one's life. One particular line that really stood out to me was under "Only God Can Ask Sacrifices Like This." is where Mother Teresa states,” Let us love Jesus with our whole heart, soul and mind. I relate to this because this is the main foundation to how I live my life. Everything I do is for God and I am thankful for everything he has blessed me with. However, another short phrase in this story just rattled me brain. It's the line where it states, "Darkness was the price of lighting." This was a real mind boggler for me, straight up through me of. I interpreted this as one person may be experiencing a period of darkness to give another an opportunity for lighting. That is about all I could get out of that. Common sense say's if it is bold it must be of some sort of importance. Am I on the right track with this interpretation?
Q: What is my favorite dish?
H: I really enjoy eating Polish foods, such as kielbasa and pierogies.
Q: Why do I consider Polish foods to be my favorite?
A: The flavors are not powerful. In fact, most Polish food is actually quite bland. It is not something I ever get cravings for, either. I usually only remember that I like it when it is sitting on the plate in front of me. So why do I still consider it to be my favorite? Like most ethnic foods, it has to do with the history. My mother is full Polish. Although both she and her parents were born in the United States, they have kept certain traditions alive. Since I know virtually nothing about my father’s heritage, I always considered myself to be Polish. I grew up enjoying certain customs such as singing “Stolat” on birthdays and eating potato and cheese pierogies for dinner, followed by blueberry filled ones for dessert. As the years went on, I did a great deal of growing up. I began to identify greatly with my dad’s side of the family. The older I got, the more I realized that I am certainly my father’s daughter. Eventually, it occurred to me that I had nothing in common with my mother’s side of the family. This did not bother me so much, though, as I hardly ever saw them, and I was quite content (and proud) to be a Decker. For a while, it felt like I was denying my mother and her family. The gap was so distant, that it felt too huge to bridge. But I tried to come up with something that I could identify with. At last I realized that it is the food. I love eating Polish food because it reminds me that I have some kind of culture to follow, if I so choose. Today, I am very interested in learning more about Poland. I even plan to visit one day. Until then, however, I am content to keep eating golumpki and kielbasa as a way of keeping in touch with my roots. I still identify more with my dad and his family, and I know I always will, because that is who I am; it is what feels right. But it is nice to feel a connection to the other half of my family, even if it is based on sausage!

Question: Why is guacamole so delicious?
Hypothesis: Because it is so cheap and easy to make.
Question: Why do I always make it when I’m in between meals, hungry at night, bored, or craving some food?!
Answer: Because guacamole is the best fruit ever! Yes, it’s a fruit. It is unlike any mixture we have in our foods today, unlike any. When at the right time you pick a guacamole, all you need is a fork and a chip! To make it grab an avocado, take out the inside and smash its creamy deliciousness up, and throw some salt and pieces of tomatoes and bam, your good to go! No one can mess it up. It is like me simple and easy going. Everyone knows what it is and it has been on earth since to don of time. It is a sociable food and for people who need a pick me up. It is diverse because you can eat it as a snack, with dinner, or any other meal. It brings people together around a little bowl. Not only is it good, but it is good for you! That is like the best of both worlds. I was always subliminally taught, “fruits=yuck”. Guacamole is high in fat and protein for a fruit though and its texture is delicious. No need to buy bulk protein, eat an avocado. Good food makes you feel good. The fats the avocado carries keeps us full, longer too. So it is beneficial to our tongues and our bellies, add some jalapenos and prevent stomach cancer! Oh man. It is simple, healthy, and great to enjoy with everyone. The best thing about my favorite food is that I did not like it just a few years ago. I thought it was gross. It is an acquired taste; everything takes time to realize what is in front of you.

Question: Why is Vietnamese Chicken Noodle Soup or Pho my favorite food?
Hypotheses: Because Pho is a part of Vietnamese cuisine, and I love the affordable price of it.
Question: Why do I love it and how does it represent my culture and personality?
Answer: Pho is the most well-known and delicious food among many Vietnamese traditional cuisines. It serves an important role as the signature of famous Vietnamese food around the world. People eat Pho in any occasion and in anytime. Eating Pho is also a way to express Vietnamese pride and culture. My favorite food is Chicken Pho. First, the reason I love it because Chicken Pho is always cheaper than any other Pho. Some Vietnamese restaurants offer 50% off for Chicken Pho only and the taste is not bad at all. A bowl of regular Beef Pho is around $5.75, but Chicken Pho is half price. Pho lovers just need to go into a right restaurant, and he or she only pays $2.50 for a hot, delicious Chicken Pho. As a full-time and not-working student, using money wisely is needed and choosing an inexpensive but delicious restaurant to eat is essential. Chicken is also a metaphor that represents leadership and punctuality. In the old time, Vietnamese farmers love the chicken morning‘s crowing sound, so that they can wake up early and go to work on the farm.
Second, a simple bowl of Chicken Pho has a lot of meanings in it. Many Asian countries use bowls to store rice and side dishes for meal. The bowls symbolize the unity, wealth and harmony in many Asian cultures. The bowls play significant role in Asian pottery; tons of ceramic bowls are made and used in many Asian families. Asian cultures believe that having meal by bowl will bring wealth and great fortune. Therefore, bowls are widely used in every Vietnamese family. The warmness from a hot bowl of Pho also increases the appetite of Asian because they believe hot and smoky foods are fresh and delicious. Of course, in order to eat Pho, chopsticks also play important role. Using chopsticks also require some skill and practice; Asian people think that the chopsticks symbolized patience and art. Overall, a simple but meaningful bowl of Pho contains a great deal of Asian cultures and distinctive traditional beliefs of the Vietnamese itself.

“At His Disposal”
This was actually an incredible reading. I haven’t enjoyed an excerpt like this for a while. Throughout the passage, it tells of Mother Teresa’s state of mind, narrated and in her own words. I cannot explain it in the context or depth she exerts but her writing is clear. I understand her but I would never be able to feel for her. She has such a beautiful mind and heart because no matter what she does she feels like she has a hole in her that God has made, and she feels lonely because of it. She feels as though she lives in a dark hell, because she is missing so much. She has witnessed so much and cannot believe it. It is hard for her to walk because everything she does and every thought she has is difficult, she feels as though God is taking something from her each time. Mother Teresa understands one thing though, that she still loves God. Her faith may be questioned, but her love and knowledge of purpose keep her going. Her dark life has literally brought the people she has been working with closer to God. In a way she is a toy used at God's disposal. She knows this and she feels it, all while witnessing hatred presenting itself in front of her that is worse than her feelings. She, like Jesus is taking sin and sacrificing herself for people. I feel as though my words do not do her writing justice. Her writing carries strength only understood by reading it yourself. Great excerpt.

"How's it gonna be....." - Third Eye Blind
Tonight's class was rudely interrupted by.....well tonight's class. This is the second time Prof. Hsiao has had to tell the entire class to settle down and pay attention. The first time he told us, he said it in a somewhat jokingly and nice way. Perhaps he hoped if he came at us as our friend we would pay him the respect due but sure enough, he had to tell us again tonight. This is a college class. We are all college students. We are all adults. I do not think we need our professor telling us to be quiet or to settle down and pay attention. Prof. Hsiao deserves our respect, first of all as our superior, I mean, he is the professor and we are the students. Secondly as our peer. Since we are all part of academia we could view each other as peers. Would any of us like it if we were teaching a class full of adults and we had to tell them more than once to be quiet? Does there really need to be side conversations while Prof. Hsiao is talking or trying to explain something? Does one of us have to say something out loud and out of context at any point during class? What would Jesus do? I also do not think that we should only act correctly when there is someone monitoring the class. We have to show our professor the respect he deserves. Would we act this same way in another classroom with another professor?
I for one, do not want to see Prof. Hsiao's angry side. Today's short display was good enough for me.
I would personally like to apologize to Prof. Hsiao if I have in any way been distributive in class.
I am not trying to be a "teacher's pet" or whatever. I am just being honest and am including myself as part of the problem. I am trying to write this with the utmost respect to Prof. Hsiao and everyone in class. After all, we are like a family, and what is family with out some drama.

The Grammy Museum
On a beautiful Friday morning, I head over to Alondra’s Hot Wings to meet up with Mr. Hsiao’s various English classes. Once I walk in to the hole-in-the-wall restaurant, I am immediately overwhelmed by the amount of students crammed in to this small place. After ordering my veggie burger I try to find a nice place to just stand and stay out of the way. When I got my meal I immediately stuffed it down and was super surprised about how deliciously amazing this veggie burger was. Shortly after eleven that morning, I found myself now following the bus from Alondra’s Hot Wings to the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles. However, it was only after the first stop light that I lost track of the bus. Luckily, my smart mother printed out a copy of directions on how to get to the museum from the restaurant ‘just in case something happened’. My drive to the museum was fairly well, other than the occasional traffic because I could not get into the carpool lane dilemma. I made it to the museum just in time to meet everyone and after a group photo opportunity we are finally allowed to enter the premises.
When all fifty of us first walk into the museum we are all overwhelmed with awe at the pretty lights and the sweet sound of the Red Hot Chili Peppers blasting their tunes at the Grammy Awards. We then make our way to the top of the museum on the fourth floor in a club-like blue lit elevator. When we walk off the elevator we are surrounded by music. Everything music. There is a table in the middle of the floor where you can listen to any genre of music imaginable. There are cubicles of the specific types of music going in depth and showing video clips of the specific genres. There are even wardrobes of famous musicians that were worn at various Grammy Awards over the years. Not only can you learn about the different many types of genres, but there are actual hands on activities as well, such as; guitars, drums, keyboards that people could pretend they are rocking out to, a hearing music room where people could hear songs on different kinds of music players, and stations where you can browse through and listen to all the artists who have ever won a Grammy Award. My favorite part of the whole museum happened to be a wall with six panels on it. Each panel represented a decade of music, starting with the 1950s going all the way to the present day of the 2000s. I only went to one panel though, and that was the 1990s. Being that they had a segment on one of my favorite bands, Nirvana, I was thrilled to learn about how the 90s grunge music came about and how this culture developed. This 90s panel was very simple compared to all the other exhibits but it caught my attention the most. Over all the trip was extremely enjoyable and musically educational, and I had a wonderful time. Thanks everyone for making it great!

Hello everyone!
There hasn't been that much socializing going on here. It's become more of a place to post all our homework, hasn't it? I hope we can change that a little bit? I know everyone's busy (I know I've been), but if everyone can check back a little bit more, they might realize that someone might have responded to your post!
Oh, last week I've perfected the recipe for cinnamon rolls. So... I you should look forward to those at the end of the semester! Haha :]
Sandra
You know what, I completely agree with you. I'm really scared of what my 4 year old brother watches on TV, because he's getting to the point where he memorizes things. I think a lot of times, he memorizes words to songs, but he doesn't fully understand the lyrics because he's distracted by the melody.
I'm also in awe of younger girls being conscious about their body. It has gotten so bad that girls even younger than 18 are thinking about cosmetic surgery.
I understand that parents these days are busy, but putting children in front of the TV or just giving them games and not fully being aware of what's being put into their brain is just irresponsible.
People have to learn to love themselves for who they are before they can love others for who they are. Why put emphasis on being fake, when we should be putting an emphasis on being natural and genuine?

How was everyone's weekend??

Q: Why are oatmeal butterscotch cookies the best when they are fresh out of the oven?
H: Because the butterscotch chips are still melted and the cookies are warm and a bit mushy in the center.
Q: Why are they my favorite type of cookie and how does it represent my personality and culture?
A: As far back as I can remember, oatmeal butterscotch cookies have been a tradition in my home. The recipe is not a secret; it can be found on the backs of the bags of butterscotch chips. We always keep a few bags of the chips on hand, just in case, and we always double the recipe so we can have twice the cookies. Making the dough from scratch has always been almost as much fun as eating the warm cookies straight from the oven. Oatmeal butterscotch cookies bring up good memories. They are time with the family, laughing and making a mess, eating the dough while making it, licking the spoons and mixing parts clean before dropping them in the sink, waiting impatiently for the cookies to bake while eating more dough, finally retrieving the aromatic cookies from the oven and scraping them off the cookie sheet to let them cool briefly before eating. I think the minute or so wait for the cookies to cool is the hardest part. We always make the cookies for holidays and special occasions, but the best part about them is that they are perfect for anytime. Making the dough can take a while, but once it is made you can have fresh baked cookies all week. These cookies are a part of my family, and they represent a bond that ties us together. No matter what else is going on, when the ingredients come out we can’t resist the fun of making the dough and enjoying the delectable cookies. The cookies represent me in a way, too. Like me, they are sweet and a little different, a combination of flavors and textures that maybe wouldn’t be expected but that all somehow work together. They might be a less known cookie, but they are delicious all the same.

Question: Why is lechon, or roasted pig, from the Philippines my favorite cuisine?
Hypothesis: Because it is very delicious and nothing compares to a good old fashioned rotisserie style cooked pig.
Question: Why do I always look forward to big family parties and hope that lechon will be served?
Answer: Lechon basically means a roasted pig in Philippine cuisine. In the Philippines a whole pig is taken and put on a stick and cooked rotisserie style over charcoal. Lechon is always served at very big family parties that I go to. When my family goes on vacation in the Philippines, my family members throw a big party with relatives that we have not seen in years and there are many different kinds of food present. The dish that always stood out to me was the roasted pig with an apple in its mouth. I remember my relatives all lining up to get a piece of the pig and take some of the crispy skin with them. The first time I tried it was when I was just a child and the part I loved the most was the crispy skin of the pig. It was very good and even crispier than skin on fried chicken. Whenever I see lechon, I always think of the Philippines and my heritage. I love the unique dishes that the Philippines have to offer and lechon is one of them.

Going to Meet the Man
After we discussed the story in class, I found it is very heavy and depressing. It means much deeper than i thought, and I like how the language used in the story is somewhat unpolished and seemed too much. It gives me a clear, vivid picture while reading through it. lol
Basically, the story is about a man, Jesse, who grew up with so much hatred rooted in him toward black people. The main reason being is his father exposed him to racism in his early age. The father took Jesse to see an execution of a black man, who did not do anything wrong but still was tortured to death. Jesse was seated on his father's shoulders, with no choice, watching the entire scene happened. It is scary when i read that he began to feel a joy he had never felt before while seeing and hearing all the scream, the cry, the blood, the pain, and everything going on. Also, when he saw the man who held the knife, he wished that he had been that man. I am shocked by the fact that he, as a little kid, dealt with all the violent scenes in this unusual way. As a kid, without the ability to differentiate good from bad, he just absorbed everything that he was exposed to. Pretty much he was messed up! It can be said that his past, his parents and things surrounded him, has such a powerful impact later on his life and has shaped who he is.
Besides the racism thought of his, I'm more interested in the conflict in his mind. It seems that he kept struggling with his "old self." He thought he is a God-fearing man, but his behavior did not seem Godly. The singing he kept hearing was a symbolism of prayers. They prayed to God, they prayed for mercy on them, and they prayed for his soul, too. Ironically, he treated the black people so unfairly, but they still keep praying for him. I think it has made him feel even more guilty. When he said that all the singing was the sound with which he was most familiar and also which he had been least conscious. I see this as a longing for God to be with him. Inside he believed God is always there for him, but he had done so much against God, which blocked him from getting closer to Him. He wanted to be forgiven, but at the same time he denied God because his old self kept coming back to him; that is why the flashbacks kept coming back to his mind. Unless he could completely surrender to God, he could not give up his old self. The old self was dragging him back to his old nature even though he might have a desire to change and have a new self. It is almost unexplainable how people often do things in an opposite way of what they really try to accomplish.

" For a people who are neither Spanish nor live in a country in which Spanish is the first language; for a people who live in a country in which English is the reigning tongue but who are not Anglo; for a people who canno entirely identify with either standard (formal, Castillian) Spanish nor standard English, what recourse is left to them but to create their own language? A language which they can connect their identity to, one capable of communicating the realities and values true to themselves—a language with terms that are neither espanol ni ingles, but both. We speak a patois, a forked tongue, a variation of two languages. "
I think I've mentioned this before on the blogosphere, but where I work, there are a hand full of guys who work in the kitchen, who are Mexican. While talking to one of my managers, I've learned that sometimes, the guys have hard time understanding each other because they have different dialects.
Of course, not being a Spanish-speaker, I didn't know. I had always just heard them talking to each other and assumed they all understood each other. When I asked my manager to explain, he told me that there are many kinds of "Spanish."
I think that the different forms of "Spanish" that are heard in different countries should be named something else, instead of being categorized just as "Spanish." Each different area has different flavors and styles, so I think it deserves the freedom of being in its own category.
Chicanas have it hard. I don't think anyone should ever be afraid to speak their own language. I don't think they should be put down for the language not following its original form, because they shouldn't necessarily have to.

QHQ #1: Rolls of Deliciousness
Question: Why is spring roll a scrumptious kick to one’s taste buds?
Hypothesis: Its zen infused elements creates an exotic taste to the taste buds.
Question: How does this represent my culture as a whole?
Answer: The spring roll is a classic Vietnamese cuisine that is unique in its transparent look and its light, yet fulfilling taste. Its history goes back to the days of Vietnamese royalty, which soon trickled down to become a household delectable. Each family has their own recipe and secrets to their own perfect spring roll, which passed down from generation to generation. In my family, having spring rolls for dinner calls for a mass family gathering. The process alone becomes a game to retrieve the best ingredients of them all so that in the end, you, and you alone, possess the all mighty spring roll. Through this fast paced and thrilling process, everyone bonds together while enjoying the refreshing taste of the rolls. The peanut dipping sauce is also a one of a kind sidekick to the spring rolls. It perfectly meshes well together and compliments the unique crunch from the rolls. In the end, this classic dish is a strong element of traditional Vietnamese culture as it brings together the old and new generation together for timeless family moments.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue by Gloria Anzaldua
Gloria Anzaldua’s voice is as powerful as her thoughts. She presents the question and strikes back with a powerful venom meant to empower. Her words, her passion, her language are glazed with the color red. It yells out the anger she feels toward the limitations and discrimination put on her native tongue. Her words in a sense become her reality. And without it, she is no longer Gloria Anzaldua. She is nothing without her vernacular. While reading this passage, she made me felt as if I was disrespecting myself for not speaking Vietnamese as much as I should. She put light on the power of words and how it echoes throughout history. Her aura is emblematic in a broad spectrum and her writing illuminates her stance on language and its place in one’s reality. She truly is today’s modern day female.

How to tame a wild tongue?
The answer is noway, we can not do it Because " Wild tongues can't be tamed; they can only be cut out". Gloria Anzaldue wants us to realize our identity, pride, and our own accent. We should not feel ashamed of our race or language but rather, we should adore them because they are the factors that make up our distinct characters. In the text,The author expressed her anger with the "Anglo teacher", who wanted her to speak with English accent.Later on, the author used both English and Spanish in her text because she wanted to show the reader her pride as a Spanish speaker. At the end of the text, she encouraged us to be ourselves, to speak the language that we like and learn our history so that we do not forget what we are.

Q: Why do I crave sushi every single day?
H: The possibility of the ingredients that can be made into sushi is endless! And it is a great way to put different flavors together into one place.
Q: Why has it been my favorite food since I can remember? How does this food represent me?
Sushi has been, is, and will be my favorite food of all time. It is a great compliment to the food itself, because I have now been to two different countries, one of which contains all different foods from different countries. When I was growing up in Japan, it was very apparent to both my grandmothers that sushi was my favorite food. On special occasions, they would always treat me with sushi. My favorite type of sushi is nigiri, which is simply a slice of fish on top of rice. I remember my grandmother and I made nigiri sushi together; when I would take a bath, I would pretend that I was a sushi chef making sushi (I would pretend that I ate them as I made them). When I traveled across the sea to the United States, I had discovered the American take on sushi. There were rolls everywhere that I had not even heard of, combining a lot more ingredients, some of which we did not even use in Japanese traditional sushi. As I developed a different taste palette, I became accustomed to these ingredients: avocados, cream cheese, spicy tuna, etc. The development of my taste palette also represents the adaptation of a new culture, while keeping with my origin. I love how the different ingredients in a roll gets mixed together as I chew, combining each distinct taste and texture together to create one unique experience. Although sushi is a Japanese cuisine, California Rolls are definitely an American creation. Although I am Japanese, my life in the United States has forever engraved American culture into my personality. I’m a clash of both completely different cultures, just like sushi.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue
Shame. Gloria Anzaldua grew up with a sense of shame. She had many hardships throughout her life, and was often punished because of her language and heritage. In a society where self acceptance is taught, its difficult to understand the shame she felt throughout her life. Thinking that you, as a person, is "wrong" puts you in quite the ordeal. "Because we speak with tongues of fire, we are culturally crucified..." (16).If knowing one is wrong, then only great shame and questioning one's existence is the only path one could possibly take. Instead of her descending into despair, she eventually overcame all the negativity that was unfairly pushed on her and had the passion and strength to state "I will no longer be made to feel ashamed of existing. I will have my voice..." (21).
In "By Your True Faces We Will Know You," Anzaldua antagonizes the "dominant white culture." This is something I disagree with. Of course she was clearly wronged, but it seems as if she still holds a grudge. It does not seem right to blame the "man." She states "...so they can whitewash and distort history." (23). I know that "whitewashing" and distorting history is a bad thing, but it seems as though she blames everybody for her pains. America is defined as one big melting pot, and it is important to know each other's history, but I do believe it is important for unity. That's the thing about America though, you could be anyone you wish to be, and you do not have to be a certain way just because you are from a certain country. You are free, and that is what I enjoy.

Dancing With The Stars
Right now I am watching Dancing With The Stars. Man! I wish I could dance like these people. I don't like dancing in public, unless I'm drunk. But, I do occasionally dance when I am in the safety of my bedroom...alone. I would love to learn to dance the tango. I think that dance is really sexy. I'm thinking of joining a dance class next semester so I can lose some weight and learn some moves. I love dance movies too. I have like over a dozen dance movies. I remember when I was a little girl I would create dance performances with my sisters and cousins. We would perform for our parents. It was both cute and fun!

"Only God Can Ask Sacrifices Like This" - from "At His Disoposal"
Wow. That was pretty much my first reaction. After not reading anything religiously deep since I graduated from high school, I was almost overcome by the amount of emotions that spoke to me through this. Mother Teresa, like for many, has always been a huge role model for me, but I always looked to her as a saintly figure. I never looked to her crying out for help or sounding almost scared. I was surprisingly touched by her paragraph about parting from her Sisters, especially the quote "You are there for your Sisters-the Sisters are not there for you . . ." I guess I just never realized that she had friends too, like through her religious order and her Sisters. It was touching that even though she missed her friends and colleagues the sick and dying people of Calcutta were more important to her. Her compassion for these people is like, what other people have said, Christ-like, and this was truly inspriring to hear and read such a deep and refreshing story.

Question: Why is Noah’s Everything Bagel with Honey-Almond “Schmear” so deliciously tasty?
Hypothesis: It is delectable because of its fresh baked dough and cheap prices, that I can enjoy a Noah’s bagel on my taste buds any day.
Question: Why is it my favorite breakfast food and how does it represent my personality / culture/ identity?
Answer: Six-fifteen morning practice arrives, and what do I crave? A Noah’s everything bagel with their honey-almond schmear. For me bread equals life. It is by far my favorite of the food groups and definitely my weakness. Now, a Noah’s everything bagel is far from your normal piece of bread, let alone another brand of everything bagels. I think the reason why I think they are so good is because not only are they prepared and baked that very morning but they have just the right amount of everything on them. What is honey-almond schmear, some may ask? Honey-almond schmear would be like saying honey-almond cream cheese. However, this is not any old cream cheese. This is yet again, freshly made with real ground up almonds and swirls of honey into a whip-like cream cheese. Put this on top of a Noah’s everything bagel and my taste buds just go wild. The savory/sweet combination is just the perfect match for me. My mum says that the savory/sweet combo reminds her of my personality and how I can be witty and nice at the same time. Being raised in “health conscious California” I’ve never really been one to eat donuts, and so the alternative is bagels! I grew up with bagels as a kid. In fact almost every morning I have one with peanut butter before practice. Those bagels are definitely not as satisfying as a Noah’s everything bagel with honey-almond schmear, though.

Blow Pop
Question: What is one of the best foods?
Answer: A blow-pop
Question: Dude, is that even a food? Why a blow-pop?
I shall now explain why a blow-pop is one of the greatest foods on the planet. A blow-pop can hold me over when I am starving, but cannot immediately satisfy my appetite with heavy foods. Even if I am driving, a blow-pop is easily accessible and readily available to enjoy. If I am full, I can eat a blow-pop knowing it will not overfill me. It is hands-free and has a low waste impact. Perhaps the greatest aspect of a blow-pop is the gum in the center. This feature allows me to continue enjoying my blow-pop even after the candy is diminished. The gum also acts as a calorie burning device, as chewing gum burns on average 12 calories per hour. It even has a nostalgic childhood feeling, and should be considered one of life’s simple pleasures. I believe blow-pops represent my personality very well because they come in a variety of flavors and I am a total sucker. Their easy use, simple function, and instant gratification resonate with my carefree attitude. The only drawback is that the suckers tend to turn one’s mouth a different, unnatural color. That is fine with me, because I only eat the blue ones. What can I say, I’m blue, and if I were green I would die.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue
This story is rather disheartening. I can relate with it in serveral ways. Being a latino that speaks very basic and limited spanish, I get many weird looks from other latinos. Most try to speak to me in Spanish. When I inform them of how little Spanish I know, I get the same reaction, " Why did your parents not teach you spanish?" The truth is, they know maybe even less than I do. My grandfather purposely did not teach his children spanish. He thought it would "handicap" them. Handicap? Growing up in LA as a poor hispanic, my dad and his family had to endure much tension. The whites gave him stress for being mexican. The mexicans gave them heat for being too white. No matter what, they could not win. Mainly, my grandpa wanted his children to have no accents whatsoever. He did not want his children to experience the difficulty of growing up an minority with an accent. A part of my culture was thrown away because it would not be socially acceptable. This saddens me. "I am visible- see this Indian face- yet IU am invisible. I both blind them with my beak nose and am their blind spot. But I exist, we exist. They'd like to think I have melted in the pot. But I haven't, we haven't." (23) The United States is the melting pot of the world. Why do we have to melt together? Why can't we be individuals that come together to form the American nation? Why must people conform to the American way( whatever that may be? Tradition takes a long time to break, and I am not really expecting change soon. Sometimes I am blinded by my empathetic views. I cannot detach myself from the situation emotioanlly enough to see rationally.

Question: Why do I love candy so much?
Hypothesis: I think that I like sure so much because it is like a drug to me its delicious and irresistible.
Question: Why are sour Patch Watermelons my Favorite candy ?
Answer:
James A. Beard once said “Food is our common ground, a universal experience.” Everyone can relate to food in some way. Some people eat food for comfort, others eat strictly for nutrition. I eat for pleasure. I love food, but I love candy more than anything. There is something about candy that makes me so happy. The second I open a bag of Sour patch watermelons I get excited. I can anticipate the joy that one bag will bring me. One little bag that costs me less then two dollars. Its such a small price to pay for so much enjoyment. I can buy them anywhere, which makes it that much better. They are so sweet yet sour at the same time. I can feel my mouth watering just thinking about it. When I eat them I always make a sour face that get tons of laughs but it’s worth it once it reaches its sweet center. I cannot get enough of them. The physical characteristics of the candy include a granulated sour sugar that covers a sweet gummy, to provide the sweet and sour affect. I feel like a can relate to that because I tend to put up a tough girl attitude when in fact im sweet and harmless. Everyone could use a little bit of sweet and sour.

Question: what is my favorite food or my favorite pace to eat?
Hypnoses:
My favorite place to eat is called Pauls coffee shop it it located at 16947Bushard St. in Fountain Valley. Why is this one place from all others the best of the best? I have asked myself that very question every time I eat there. Pauls coffee shop is located off Warner and bushard in the parking lot with the , a dry cleaners, a braber shop, a video store that is out of business but still has the signage in the windows as if someone just left in a hurry. The center looks very run down or very old such as group of buildings that have see time pass by. Pauls has no outside window only the front glass door that I tinted black. There is a sign above the coffee shop but it does not light up. Pauls only is open from 7:00 am to 2:00pm seven days a week. The way you know that your there in time to eat is there are two flags out in front to the right of the door. The flag that is on the left is the American flag, and the flag on the right is the Marine Corps flag. The owner is named Phil yes everyone always calls him Paul.
Question: why is this my favorite place you eat?
Answer: the quality of the food is top notch the best ingredients that one could use. The burgers that they serve are half pound burger on this great tasting bun and fresh lettuces. Fresh and perfectly cooked patty is the most tender and most tasting buger that you can have. The menu is very small all of two pages but everything is great. I was there today just drinking an ice tea just kicking back for a few hours spending time with my good friend. They serve a great hiwwian dish called a loco moco. It has a beef patty with and egg and special brown gravy on top. A very filling meal.

I had fun at the grammy museum. I have been there many times before but it was nice to go with a large group. I really liked watching everyone mess around with everything. I watched someone sing and he was not very good but it was really fun to interact with him and just watch him mess around. It looked like he was having fun. It was also really fun to be able to go into the bowling ally even though we were not very good. I think that between three of us there was a high score of 74. Overall i thought that it was a lot of fun and I am glad that i got to go. Oh yeah and thanks for not embarrassing me in front of my mom Mr.H

QHQ Beef Jerky
Why is beef jerky so scrumptious? It is so scrumptious because it comes in a variety of mouth watering flavors suitable for any lover of meat. Why is it the perfect snack, and how does it represent my personality? Beef jerky is an all around perfect snack. First, it is full of protein. Protein is very important for the human body. It is used to build muscle, and to maintain functions within the body. It also comes in many different shapes and sizes. Beef jerky can be bought in every way. It can be bought in little or big bags, and can even be bought in single strips. It also represents me in very peculiar ways. It represents me as an athlete. As an athlete I need to be healthy, and strong. Beef jerky is a very tough meat. It is hard to bite pieces off of a large strip. This resembles my strength in athletics. I am hard to break down. When I am hurt, I continue to train and do not give up. I will reach my goal. Beef jerky can also be bought everywhere. Whether a person is driving through the desert, or walking through a supermarket they can find beef jerky. This shows that I am a very available person. If somebody needs me, I will try my best to go and help them. It shows I am usually able to have an open schedule for people. A good example of this is my youth group. I teach youth ages twelve to eighteen. I gave each youth my phone number. I let my youth call me at any time of the day for any reason. I am fully available to help them with anything they need. Beef jerky is a great example of how I can be tough, and available all in one package.

Mother Teresa
I of course found both readings really thought provoking. I found it interesting that Mother Teresa herself questioned God's acceptance. Maybe I have it wrong but it seems as though she realized that before the Passion, Jesus was sinless. In the moment of the Passion he became and took our sin and in this moment he was rejected by God. And she is questioning why she and many other Christians strive to be like Jesus when he too was rejected by God because of sin. She uses the word PRAY repeatedly throughout the piece. I am sure she felt the closest way to be with God was through prayer. I love the line that reads "to be in love and yet not in love, to live in faith and yet not to believe, to spend myself and yet be in total darkness, pray for me." I also liked, "it often happens that those who spend their time giving light to others, remain in darkness themselves." This can be true for all of us. Sometimes we an get so caught up with the problems of our friends that we neglect the things right in front of us. It is complex to think that she spoke about life without God being comparable to hell and also compared her isolation to hell. I cannot imagine someone who symbolized light coud live in such darkness. I guess it only goes to show that all is not always what it seems.

Q: Why do I enjoy eating Pizza Hut pizza?
A: The way that the food is cooked and the blends of the different ingredients give it a unique flavor that no other pizza can match. I am also Italian so, pizza is my thing.
Q: How does this show my unique personality traits?
A: Well, for starters, I find myself different and unique in a way from everyone else and can relate to Pizza Hut’s pizza in that sense. I prefer convenience over cost and Pizza Hut gives you both. They have a wide variety of pizzas to choose from and they also have a wide selection of add-ons that one might like instead of pizza. They have personal size pizzas which I love and for some reason, children do too. There was a study done with a huge number of children that asked them why they enjoyed the Pizza Hut pizza over all the rest. It turns out that having a fun, kid friendly size pizza was the reason, they also liked how the pizza was crunchy instead of soft like all the other pizzas. The funniness of the cheese when it wouldn’t break off and get all over the place to the balanced portions of all the toppings. For pizza, I am very picky on what goes on it and what doesn’t. For Pizza Hut pizza, I find myself agreeing with the kids and the crunchiness of the crust and the fun size of the personal pizzas really side well with me. I feel I am still a kid at heart and Pizza Hut knows how to bring out the kid in me. Sounds weird, but all my troubles go away when I eat Pizza Hut. Yummy,…..Pizza!!!

Question: Why does a chicken burrito taste so delicious?
Hypothesis: It tastes exquisite because it is made up of so many different ingredients that go fantastic together.
Question: Why do I enjoy eating my burrito at Chronic Tacos and how does it represent my personality/culture/identity?
Answers: For as long as I can remember Mexican food has always been a great fallback option for whenever my family and I cannot decide on what to eat. The Mexican side of my family (my father’s side) is notorious for their delicious authentic Mexican style cooking. My grandmother makes the best taquitos I have ever tasted. However, my all time favorite Mexican dish is the chicken burrito. I have recently discovered a “hole in the wall” Mexican food spot where many people go to enjoy a delicious chicken burrito. Chronic Tacos is a spot next to the beach were I love to eat especially after a long morning of surfing. At Chronic Tacos, I prefer to have my burrito consist of: pinto beans, Mexican style rice, sliced chicken breast, lettuce, hot salsa, and cheese. Each ingredient in this burrito represents a certain aspect of my personality and character. Pinto beans is the gas that keep me moving forward in my fast pace life. The Mexican style rice is what identifies me and differentiates me from the white society (not like the white Americanized rice that chipotle serves in their burritos). The majority of the mass in the burrito comes from the sliced chicken breast which represents my muscles and athletic build my body has. The lettuce gives my burrito a healthy edge that keeps me fit so that no matter what (at least at this point in my life) I can eat whatever I want and not gain a pound. The kicker however comes from the hot salsa that gives my personality life. It is what drives me to wake up in the morning. And finally, the cheese is the shoestring that ties my attributes together to form one level headed being. Therefore, the variety of ingredients in the burrito is what makes it so delicious.

Mother Teresa "At His Disposal"
This is a very sad piece. When I read it, the first thing that popped into my mind was the word "lost". The beginning talks about death, and homelessness. Both of these things have something to do with the word "lost". Death involves losing this life on earth. Homelessness usually involves losing a place where someone can call home. As the excerpts progress we see that Mother Teresa can be related to "lost". She is sad when she is away from her sisters. She feels lost when she is not around them. She later talks about how she does not feel God anymore. She has lost herself, and has lost sense of God. This can be a big problem in many people that help others all the time in life. People begin to care about others more than they care about themselves. They lose themselves in the sight of others. When helping others I would say a person first needs to take care of themselves. If a person is lost, how are they going to show another individual the way?

Question: Why is Sizzler’s Malibu Chicken so delicious?
Hypothesis: It is a tasty and hearty dish I often ordered during my family out nights that satisfied my taste buds and fulfilled the emptiness that occupied my stomach.
Question: Why have I ordered it every single time I have gone to Sizzler’s for the past 18 years of my life?
Answer: Malibu Chicken is a delicious harmony of well-seasoned breaded chicken under a single finely sliced piece of honey cured ham, all covered by a precisely measured slice of melted provologne cheese fitted perfectly to blanket all the delicious entities that remain hidden, until that first delectable chew hits the pallet of one’s taste buds. The first time I have tried the Malibu Chicken was with a night out with my family at a very young age, after watching a movie on the big screen. This was a completely new experience to me. All I have been eating before that time in my life was just Asian foods, consisting of mostly rice and other Asian dishes. This was one of the most significant new foods that led me later in life to embark on an adventure of trying out new and excitingly different foods. At first I did not know what to expect, the smooth, shiny, greasy melted cheese hid the unknown. After my first bite, I learned there was so much more flavor and taste then just the uncontrollable expanding cheese that was subtly formed to hide and cover the delicate, yet precious flavorful meats. The honey-cured ham was sweet enough to touch one’s sweet tooth in a way that spoiled one’s childish desires for candies and sugar, yet the sweetness was not overwhelming enough to drive the person to jump out of his or her seat screaming for ice-cream. The chicken had a perfect coat of breading that could not alone be made by one man, but only by the participation of many could this chicken have existed. This of course was to hide the plain dullness taste of chicken and to add a little flavor. But chicken being chicken, the most versatile and generic taste of all poultry, cannot escape its own nature. “Tastes like chicken,” often one says while tasting an unknown and unfamiliar “whatever” type of meat. This is not a bad thing though. A little flavor and spice with a common, original piece of meat can go a long ways. I am speaking of condiments. Ketchups, barbeque sauces, mustards, even mayonnaises work well in combinations of this amazing unity of meats and cheeses. Some argue that condiments take away from the “real” flavor of the Malibu Chicken. I believe the Malibu Chicken tastes great all by itself, but I also believe that without the variation of sauces, the “real” flavor of Malibu chicken could never be obtainable, thus making the taste of Malibu chicken a dream, an ideal. This forcefully places company on an adventure in search of excitingly new different flavors and tastes, thus making one think, “I wonder what else this is good with?” Unfortunately, this search exists shortly, for the Malibu Chicken has so much potential, but only offers so little in proportion and is heavily dependent on time. Freshly off the waiter’s hands, a warm plate is placed on the table, but soon loses heat and as time goes by in search of that ideal flavor, heat leaves the plate, along with interest. This is the story of Malibu Chicken at Sizzler’s.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue
I really enjoyed this essay because I felt I could relate to it. Not as a Spanish speaker or a chicana or latina but has a woman who has had to watch what is said because it does not come off correctly coming from a woman. I cannot pretend to understand what it is like to not be able to speak my native tongue because I am white and was raised speaking English but I do know what it is like to have to sugar coat what I say so that I do not offend people around me. I work in an office and I have been with the company for four years. I am and always have been the youngest employee as long as I have worked there, however I have different skills than the men in my organization as well as more seniority than a lot of the people in my office. However, since I am the youngest and a woman I have had many incidents where other coworkers have complained about me telling them that they are doing something wrong or asking them for favors because the people in my office do not see me for the position I hold or the skills I have, they see me as a young woman who should mind her p’s and q’s and not rock the boat and not let them know when something they are doing is incorrect. It is a problem I have had since I started working there four years ago and is also my biggest obstacle when it comes to advancing at all in the company. I am slowly (slowly because I’m stubborn and refuse to accept this as truth) learning that the world we live in is still a man’s world. At least my office is and little girls like me just have to shut up and put up with it because the money is decent and they are flexible with my class times. I don’t like it but until society to starts to change and see people as equal instead of in boxes, nothing will change. Until I decide to do something about the way I am being treated instead of just bitching, nothing will change because as we learned with the poems, when we change ourselves, we change the world. I think it is time we change ourselves and our attitudes so we can change the way our society perceives people who are not white men.

Question: Why is my mom’s famous guacamole so yummy and addicting?
Hypothesis: It is yummy and so addicting because is tastes amazing, has a good bite and holds many memories of football season.
Question: Why is famous guacamole so addicting, eaten during football games and how does it represent my personality, culture, and identity?
Answer: My mom’s famous guacamole is apart of our Mexican culture and is a quick and easy food to munch on during football games. My mom’s famous guac (short for guacamole) starts off with the greenest avocados and all the freshest ingredients needed. To create this masterpiece is some cilantro, a little bit of onion, half a lemon, secret blend of spices, and then to top it off, two green chili peppers. The amounts and ingredients are not written down. The method is just passed down and it is an acquired skill of the Mexican culture. Famous guacamole is cool once it hits you tong, but if by chance you get a pepper you are in for a surprise. The citrus and onions mixed with the spices get you every time. The combination is genius. Guac can be prepared in minutes, just in time for kick off! The atmosphere is fun and excitement is all around when everyone is gathered around the TV. with their own side of guac and chips. We stop and cheer while chips fly carelessly from our bowls and yes, our mouths. We are in the moment. Everything is perfect until, of course, the other teams scores a touchdown. But we have our guacamole! I can identify with food and sport events. It is a fun pastime and gathers family and friends together. We enjoy the slurring of stuffed mouths and yelling. It is memorable. My mom’s famous guacamole is now a football tradition and when NFL season comes around you can bet that we are doing the exact at least once a week.

Grammy Museum - Post #1
So my Grammy Museum post is coming a little bit later than it should be but with my 7 other classes, work, and my family, I have been a very busy lady!
So the day started off on an odd foot for me. I had to drop my car off at the auto shop to have the breaks checked out so my dad offered to drop me off at the school for the field trip since it wasn’t too far away from his business. Being dropped off by my dad in and of itself was just odd because we haven’t spent time just me and him since I was about 16 years old. Anyways my dad drops me off in the parking lot and NO ONE from my class was there yet…not that I knew anyone from the class but a familiar face would have been nice lol. So I checked in with Mr. Hsaio and stood awkwardly in the parking lot waiting for permission to board the bus. I should mention at this point that I am a transportation snob! I work for a limousine company and my actual job is group transportation, such as the motor coach that we took to the Grammy Museum, or corporate meetings being held at local resorts and what not….more on this later. While waiting in the parking lot a girl approached me and said “is your name betsy?” I said “yes” and she said “oh you have calculus with my friend Kim” and I was like “yes, yes I do!” so her and I talked for a bit and then we joined the circle the rest of class had made up in the parking lot. I felt so much better just standing some familiar faces because I get really shy in new situations. So then we are told we can board the bus, and I lost my group of familiar faces and ended up sitting by myself, no biggy except as I have mentioned before I am a transportation snob and I could not get over the purple interior of the motor coach! Seriously to this moment I still find it amusing and horrible (no offense but Coach USA is known for not having the nicest busses). So then we go to Alondra’s Wing something for lunch it was really good and to my surprise the people from my class had saved me a spot to sit so I got to sit with them and I really enjoyed getting to know everyone and just hanging out. After eating we got back on the bus and headed to LA, where the driver flipped a bitch in the middle of Olympic Blvd…not even at a light…again sorry I am a transportation snob but in my line of work OMG I would have received phone calls and angry emails from clients for that kind of driving…unbelievable in my book! I know the rest of the class was impressed but I think I have a different standard and perspective since I have been managing transportation for four years and never in my wildest dreams would that kind of driving be acceptable for any of my clients. Anyways we got the museum safe and sound, take a group photo and off we were to explore it for ourselves. Each floor offered something new and exciting.

Floor 3 – I really liked the giant touchscreen music thing when you first step off the elevator it was fun to see how many different types of music really exist and some of the genres I didn’t know the name of the music I have heard a thousand times before. This floor also had really cool booths with films about different genres with artists talking and performances being shown. It also had really fun interactive timelines for music and videos that were totally fun to play around with. The group I was walking around with went into this giant booth that we thought was soundproof so that we could listen to music as a group and when someone else from the group came up and started talking through the glass we realized that the booth was not at soundproof and it was really amusing.
Floor 2 – by far this was my favorite of all favorite floors. It had a very cool electric drumset, keyboards with microphones, and mixing stations. This floor also had interactive booths that showed us how to mix music, or record different aspects of making a song. My favorite part was the booth were we recorded a rap. I swear my group spent 20 minutes in that booth just recording ourselves over and over again. By far that was the best time I had all day long.
Floor 1 – I didn’t spend too much time on this floor because compared to 2 and 3 this floor didn’t offer anything too fun other than the gift shop…btw why was there an Amoeba stand in the gift shop? I mean seriously who would pay over priced prices there when they can go to the real Amoeba and get whatever they are looking for for WAY cheaper…idk it confused me.

After we visited all the floors we went to Lucky Strike for bowling. I bowled with Cianna and Yue and to my surprise actually tied with Yue…yaya us! I had a lot of at bowling, but not as much fun as I had in that rap recording booth haha.
At 3:00 PM sharp we left LA Live and headed back to Cerritos College, where I had to wait for my parents to pick me up. I swear I felt like such a little kid, but in a weird way I liked it haha I felt like I was care free and in high school again.
I really enjoyed this fieldtrip, and I can hardly wait for the next one. It was great to meet new people from my class and the other classes, not to mention a great excuse to not go to work. Thanks Mr. H for planning this fieldtrip! It rocked!

At His Disposal
By Mother Teresa
This reading really moved me. I have grown up Catholic and have actually attended Catholic school for a good chunk of my life, but never really held the grasp of whom or what Mother Teresa is. Yes, we were told she is a Saint and she helped and prayed for the poor, but that was it. Illustrated in this reading were her struggles and the fight that challenged her faith. Previously I have always imagined her as wholly and compassionate, but this reading reveals that she too is human. No one of the outside would have ever questioned her faith. But deep inside she felt alone and lost in a “dark hell”. She had so much strength and love for Him, yet she did not know the truth and isolated herself from the rest so that they could stretch out and be closer with Him. She was at His disposal. She did as he did. She suffered and was lost for those who could bare the pain no more. She held herself together for others and when she needed a shoulder to lean on she found none, but when one was needed she was always there for others. She gave her whole self to others only to find her true meaning and purpose. What she has done for so many is beautiful.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue
After reading this story, I think that I can relate to it in some way also because of being to speak multiple languages. As a child English wasn't my first language, so growing up in a country where your native language isn't always used can be hard because it may be forgotten by using more of the dominant language. It is quite hard to imagine to read her story and to think that she had to face all those struggle just because of her cultural identity and language. It must also be hard and confusing for her to speak the right language at the right time and place because of different dialects I shall say that separates a Chicana or Latina. I would probably have lower self-esteem if one of my fellow countrymen would tell me that I'm a traitor for speaking English and it would ruin our Filipino language. But then, I would have no choice but to speak English because it is the dominant language here in the U.S. So, take pride of your native language and reflect it to your identity and don't feel ashamed about it.

Mother Teresa
Reading the excerpt from Mother Teresa was melancholic for how she describes the loneliness she felt. However, it was motivating in which she decided to share her light with others, even if it meant she would stay in the dark.
In the first excerpt, Mother Teresa how the world without the love of christ means that people would suffered the outcomes of sin. Also it talks about how she would pray for the people to end the hate that was spreading. Therefore, showing the unconditional love for other people. Also she explains how the help and prayers of people in other lands could really help end the hatred and hostility feeling that people had in India.
In the second excerpt, she describes how to be a missionary of god, one must be willing to take sacrifices even if they required them to be invisible. In this paragraph she also describes a feeling of loneliness. She says that in order to give light to others, one must remain in darkness. However, when others are reaching the light, she is left behind in the shadow.
Finally, the last paragraph describes the loneliness she feels with god and how her life looks as if it was hell. Also, there's a contrast of what Jesus went through. It explains that Jesus took the sins of others, therefore, leaving others without sins and he accepted the sins. This, meant that god could not accept his son because he had taken sin. In the case of Mother Teresa, she help other people see the light but this meant that as she show the light to others, she would be left behind. In conclusion, the isolation in which Mother Teresa lived, help her go through different phases; love of god, sacrifices for god, and the life without god. Thus, showing her compassion for god.

I really liked this piece. The first part of the excerpt Mother Teresa is taking about the fighting in Calcutta in 1964. She basically talks about the harm sin can do and asks why they are fighting. In the second part of the excerpt Mother Teresa talks about her sacrifice for the Sisters in Carambolin. I like the quote "darkness is the price of lighting the 'fire of love'" and also "It often happens that those who spend their time giving light to others, remain in darkness themselves." I think what she meant was that she put her heart and soul into helping others and she did not have energy or heart to fulfill her own things. She is in the dark because she has grown apart from God while helping her Sisters and it pains her that she is in the dark. In the last part she talks about "how terrible it is to be without God." She compared her being away from God as being in hell.

How to Tame a Wild Tongue by Gloria Anzaldua
This Essay stirred a surprising number and variety of thoughts in my mind. As I read Anzaldua's thoughts, I am filled with a sense of shame and curiosity. I am not Latina, Mexicana, Chicana nor in any way Hispanic. I have made a point of clarifying that fact as long as I can remember. My mother's father was Blackfoot, a northern Rockies native tribe, and I inherited his dark features and year-around tan. I was the only amongst my siblings to exhibit these traits and have since birth. I can remember telling the Hispanics who came to our door in my four year old voice, "no habla espanol." I've had to repeat that little bit of Spanish over and over throughout my life. By high school, I resented the assumption that I must speak Spanish because I have a tan and dark hair. I resented all the Mexicans in southern California for being so numerous and for looking like me. I never stopped to think that I and my culture were the problem, not them and theirs. Why shouldn't I be expected to speak Spanish? I should know the language not because I look the part but because I live near an international border. There is no reason why our country should feel so superior over its neighbors and their cultures. Who's to say one part of American culture is better than another. Who's to say one accent is better than the next.

This excerpt showed a lot about Mother Teresa's character. God put her in the darkness and tested her abilities. For her to still find ways to help others even though God was not in her life at the time shows great determination. She knew that if she worked to help bring peace to people's lives she would find God again and he would bring her into the light. Mother Teresa worked in darkness knowing light was being shown on other people, yet she went on. It is amazing to me the fight power she had in her and the sacrifices she made for the goodness/happiness of other people. I respect the lifelong effort she has put forth and am inspired by her will and love.

Question: Why is barbequed chicken so delicious?
Hypothesis: The taste of barbequed chicken is unique to the cook?
Question: Why does barbequed chicken have a deeper significance to me?
Answer: There is no doubt in my mind that barbequed chicken is so tasty. When I was living at home we barbequed occasionally, so every once in a while I would get to have barbequed chicken. Unless, there was a special occasion my family was celebrating, or we just wanted to have a barbeque to bring people together. Now that I have moved away from home I do not have barbequed chicken ever. Just the thought of barbequing reminds me of home and how much I miss my family. Sunday afternoon barbeques always brought the whole family together and even some friends. Family means a lot to me, and this was a way to get everyone together and enjoy a good meal. Even when times are rough in the family having a barbeque with our neighbors lightens the tension within the family and is a good way for my family to relax. This atmosphere causes us to take a step back, enjoy our surroundings, and be thankful.

Yesterdays class..
Wow… I was completely thrown off guard yesterday when we were reading our QHQ. Secretly I was hoping Prof. Hsiao didn’t pick me. I never ever thought I would get chocked up like I did.. Wow.. all I remember is reading and slowly getting caught up.. As much as I tried the words didn’t want to come out.. It wasn’t even a great paper or anything, but I guess since I got a unexpected shipment from my brother earlier in the day (that had me in tears) the emotions came back. As the oldest in my fam I’ve always felt the need to protect my younger brother and sisters. But since my little brother lives soo far away and he was the one whom I was the closest to I get really emotional when the “family” topic comes by.. Gee.. What an emotional wreck! lol. He’s not so young btw he’s 19..
On a side note: Talking about siblings, I’m taking my little sister to the Hannah Montana concert tonight.. I cant wait to hear a bunch of 10 year old's screaming off the top of their lungs for Hannah Montana.. lol.. why me!! lol.. I’m kidding.. I’m sure it will be great.. (I hope)

Mother Teresa was a loving person who was loved by many persons. She cared for others, thought about others, was totally selfless. But she was human, just like the rest of us. She had a lot of inner turmoil that she faced on her own. It was between her and God. Even though Mother Teresa had her own problems she faced, she still had the Sisters to fellowship with just as Christ had a lot to go through, but he still had his disciples. God not only humbled Mother Teresa in the respect of allowing her to go through such suffering on her own, but He also reminded her of her mortality by giving her companions that she could spend time with, that she needed every once in a while. It is lonely being on top, and just like every other human being, Mother Teresa needed the upliftment and the joy of her friends.
Mother Teresa sacrificed her life, for the life of others. She gave herself wholeheartedly. Her light became others' light and she slowly perished into darkness. The whole point of Christianity is to be like Christ, grow closer to God. She did that by not only being a light to others, but by sharing her light with others. She was the light stuck in her own darkness. That was her mission though, to be a light so that she can save others and help spread that light across this earth. She had a fire burning within her that is uncomparable.
Honestly, I never really knew much about Mother Teresa except the fact that she changed many lives through the spreading of her love. Now that I have actually read something of hers, I see she was a truly beautiful person. I can see why she was so admired and loved. Even through death, she still makes a difference.

"How To Tame a Wild Tongue"
I really did not know how to react to Gloria Anzaldua's story. Being white, most people assume that I am ignorant and do not know any Spanish myself, but I do. I also know how there are a bizillion dialects and ways to say something in Spanish. I grew up learning specific Traditional Spanish, the kind that they teach in school. It was not until I went to my high school in Long Beach that I learned Chicano Spanish and learned the slang. However, I have to disagree with Anzaldua (and excuse me if I offend anyone and may seem ignorant but,) I think that since we are in America that everyone should speak English or at least be able to. People should be able to keep their language that is apart of their culture, but English should be the dominate language here. Yes, in the future, the Hispanic population will probably be the dominate race in America, but English is our origin, it is what has been always taught in schools here and has been the basis of our American society.

When I read this story all I could think was, wow. Can it be that one would really be punished for speaking one's own language? One word never seemed to leave my mind as I was reading thing: corruption. I can somewhat relate to this story; however I was stripped from my cultural language in a different way. I am a mixture of Samoan, German, and Danish. Sadly, I do not know how to speak, write, or communicate at all in any of these three languages. I feel left out when my family is having compositions and I cannot understand a thing they are saying.
When my siblings and I were younger, my Mom always bugged my Dad to teach us the Samoan language while we were young. However, he did not teach us the language for whatever reason. I wish that he would have taken that opportunity to teach us while we could soak it up like a sponge and comprehend it. Forchanatly, throught-out high school many of my Samoan cousins and friends taught be bits and pieces of the language. My siblings and I were always known as the "white-washed" ones because we did not know the language (we are half white though.)
Also, because my boyfriend is a full blood Samoan, being around his family I have learned more and more of the language. His parents sometimes speak to me in the language and I have to ask him, "What did they say?" or "What does that mean?" I am constantly eager to learn any little word or phrase because I believe language is a major filter between people's communication.
Anyways, back to the story we were both stripped of language but in two opposite ways. She knew her language but was bound from speaking it and I was never taught my language. Culture is a very important part of a person. Be proud of your culture and embrace it.

Obama’s Acceptance Speech
I did not vote for Barrack Obama. I admit that I was one of the jerk-offs that voted for Bush not once, but twice. I voted for McCain (After long personal debates about whether I should vote at all) because, in the end, he was a war veteran, and an outstanding American. Obama was simply a “New Kid” in politics with vague and ambiguous principals. I agree with nearly 0% of Obama’s policies, and I can easily argue that Obama is nothing more than a “pretty face” in government. People were voting for a leader with a strong booming voice…. But with nothing of substance to say. As made obvious by recent opinion polls, most Americans are regretting their choice in the newest leader of the western world. It isn’t necessarily the fault of the favorite son that he is the favorite, hell, even I would love to be president of the United States. Regardless, Obama has a responsibility to change. You should practice what you preach, and Obama skips practice. The speech, however, was a beautifully written, and well-spoken group of words. Obama did not create it, but he projected it nicely. I love how the final passages of the speech elude to the wondrous history of the United States. The epic events that came to pass during the last century or so were illustrated well using a 106 year old woman’s life span (who just so happened to vote for Obama). I wish we could come to terms with the unending monotony and misdirection of U.S. bureaucracy as of late. We are a fast food nation who would rather vote for a mediocre singer on a reality game show, rather than the most important position in world history. Obama’s speech, as pretty and genuine as it may seem, does not set within a fire or freedom as does other more historical speeches. When I read (or actually hear from taped events when applicable) words from MLK, or Franklin Delano Roosevelt, or my favorite person in history Abraham Lincoln, I can feel the expression of these great men’s hearts. I can place myself within the dilemma itself, and I weep for the pressure for peace and posterity. Obama, in my personal opinion, is not a bad man. He seems like he may be a good father, husband, and even a leader…. BUT, he is not the leader America has earned through pained centuries of progress. It just seemed we were so eager to place an African American in office that any African American would do. If we were not encountering 2 wars, a planet in peril, and an economic crisis (as Obama himself stated) I would have no problem with him in office. He seems like a good American, and a nice guy. I will admit, I prefer Obama to the moronic Bush, but the lesser of two evils, is still evil. I just don’t feel as if he has the faculties and experience America requires in order to undo many of the wrongdoings of the past decade or so. So all that being said, I did enjoy Obama’s speech for the picture painted in my mind. But I don’t appreciate the man painting the picture.

Question: How are enchiladas apart of my family’s culture?
Hypothesis: Enchiladas are a satisfying and delicious dish, that only takes 30 minutes to make.
Question: Why are enchilada served to me every time I go to Mexico?
Answer: Making enchiladas does not take a very long time to make. There are not many ingredients you need to make delicious enchiladas. Cheese, tortillas, onions, tomatoes, chili, lettuces and sour cream are the only ingredients you need. You dip the tortilla in a chili mix, you can find enchilada salsa at any grocery store. As I walked inside the house I remember smelling the enchiladas all the way to the front door. My grandmother has always been known to make the most delicious enchiladas in San Pedro Michoacán. Her mother taught her how to make them and my grandmother taught my mother. I guess the tradition goes back further then that. My mother has yet to teach me the Ponce way to make them. That is only because I never step foot in the kitchen. In Mexico my grandmother would tell me stories of how her mother would teach her how to cook. That was the only time you would see me in the kitchen. I would help her cut the tomatoes and lettuce but never the onions. It was always when we made enchiladas that we would come together. My mother, her mother and me together just cooking.

Obama speech
On my other speech I kind of talked about moth MLK and Obama but I do not mind talking about Obamas speech once again. As I was reading the speech I remember I watched him on tv. I know it might not sound the same as being there, but that was the first time ever involed in any historic event. Reading carefully his speech I liked how he thanked everyone who helped him get to were he was. When he thanked his wife I did not help but smile. That was so kute. I also liked how he talked about Ann Nixion the 106 year old voter. That made him seem involved with his people. He took time to talk to the the people who were behind him all the way. Giving his daughters a new puppy was a sweet thing to do. I learned alot about how Obama is just by his speech. I know he is a president with common humor and i think we can all enjoy that from him.

I DONT WANT TO START ANY DRAMA ABOUT THIS BUT I JUST SAW IN INTERVIEW LAST NIGHT ON 34 ABOUT SHAKIRA
IT IS NOT THAT IS IS A "SELLOUT" BUT SHE JUST DISCOVERED HERSELF. SHE IS HAPPY WITH HER BODY. I THINK SHE SHOULD BE. LIKE SHE SAID IN HER INTERVIEW SHE USE TO BE VERY NEGATIVE ABOUT HER BODY. SHE EVEN SAID SHE WOULD NEVER SHOW SKIN. BUT PEOPLE CHANGE AS THEY GET OLDER. WHAT YOU THINK RIGHT NOW YOU MIGHT THINK DIFFERNT IN YEARS TO COME.
I DONT THINK SHE IS SHOWING MORE THEN WHAT A WOMAN WHO IS HAPPY WITH HER SKIN. ONE OF THE THINKS I DO LIKE ABOUT HER IS THAT SHE IS NATURAL.SHE IS NOT WALKING AROUND WITH DOUBLE D'S
I JUST WANTED TO THROW IT OUT THERE THATS JUST WAT I THINK BUT I RESPECT WHAT YOU THINK AS WELL

Esme,
I'm glad you commented on my post!!! Even if you do not agree with me :) Ok just to add to my previous post/comment here are some reasons why I think Shakira is a SELLOUT. Let me start by saying that Shakira is a very attractive girl who has musical talent. I have added several link to pictures just to show how much she has changed. Some pictures are her in concert from early years some now, album covers 1999 vs 2009. HUGE DIFFERENCE!!!! Ok she was just on Christina and she said that she is confident with her body but in the beginning she advertised her music not her body. Look up her first music videos and compare them to the latest ones. Is she saying look everyone I'm a good singer of look everyone my body will get your attention and money??? She is one of the artist that is still natural(even though I heard she has had a nose job and lipo) but she still uses her body to gain attention. Even her lyrics have changed over the years. Sorry Esme, Shakira is still a sellout. can't wait to hear what yOu think!!:)

Sexy or Sellout??
Hello my friends, I like the talk about Shakira, I love her as well, so the change has not really bothered me. I think it was time for her to change. I do not think she is a sellout she just has to change for the time.
You have Hanana Montana and her little pole dance, so I would be worried about her before Shakira.
Shakira is a grown up artist, so she targets mostly grown up for her music. She has grown since she started, so of course she has has been losing clothes in each video she has worked on.
Now, Hanana Montana targets kids so she needs to keep covered up till she is ready to move to grown- ups.

Post Caked LA!!!
So I have a friend that started her own business. It is called Caked LA!!
What is Caked LA you may ask??
Well Caked LA makes Cake Pops!!
Now you may ask what is a cake pops?
Cake pops are cake on a stick. I think they are heaven on a stick. I feel it is a good size piece of cake, so if you eat one you will not feel guilty.
They are new so they only have a few choices like Sock it to me, Red velvet, Chocolate, Marble and My favorite is Cookie and cream. They are growing so new flavors are coming.
They are a cute and new way to celebrate at parties. Here is their website.
cakedla.com
You can also find them on facebook, myspace and twitter.
They are going to have a sample event on September 25th at 7:30pm if people 21 and over want to come. It will be at Shipmates in Cerritos.
Just let me know if you need the address.

Jenny,
Talking about the Hannah Montana pole dance.. lol.. I was at the Teen Choice awards that day.. lol.. I was in the pit with the rest of the girls wile she was performing… I remember thinking OMG when she busted out with the pole! Yeah I didn’t think that was quite suitable for her either.. I don’t have a problem with my sister being a fan of her music and show n stuff since its decent.. Now about the pole incident.. A little too much.. I guess (in a way) shes trying to get out of that “not a girl” stage to the young adult stage.. I’m probably just saying gibberish.. lol.. I think the bigger problem is all these nude pic scandals these teens are also busting out with now a days.. wow!

Unless one is a baller and rollin in money disregard this message.
If you like me you will jump to the chance to get the discount.

Also when you grow up you lose clothing?? I'm 28 girl and do not plan on coming to class or even the club with my small chest hanging out, a skirtt covering my bum, and dancing like I'm trying to have a real good night with my husband on the dance floor.
Ok I want to do a survey. Let's ask whoever wants to participate a question.

Lets see what the answeres are.
I hope your baby is feeling better :)
If you guys are going to answer about Shakira please be specific. thank you much

My Idea of Mother Theresa was one of a distorted view based on what I saw on television in brief news snippets. After reading this story I became clearer on what her life was all about and how she felt about her work. She became involved with the poor and homeless in 1964 in Calcutta India. She wrote of violence and injustice and asked for Bishop Picachy to pray for them. She wanted him to pray for their people. She wanted to change hatred to love. With her struggles she felt as Jesus did when everyone seemed to turn their back on him. She became a median between god and her sisters of the faith. Inside she was lonely and going through hell. Through her suffering she became an idol. It seemed that the higher up she went, the fewer people she had to look up to. She chose to sacrifice herself for the sake of the poor and inevitably to get closer to God. She was in the love of God but not in love with any man. Her reflection of the depths of the cross symbol likened her to Jesus as she carried a burden of loneliness throughout her career. She said “If there is a hell this must be one” (p3). I liked this quote because she gives us for the first time an honest look at what hard work her life was really like. In most television accounts we would see her smiling as the camera would take a quick shot of her before turning to a newscaster to tell her story for her. The picture that most of the general public got was that she was always smiling and happy to meet and pray for anyone who would stand in line to meet her. Now I see her as a self sacrificing hard working nun who in spite of her small size could work her whole life with the less fortunate the world over. Who knew she was so sad and lonely inside from all of the injustice that she saw in the world.

Post uummm..
Jessica,
I remember you said you went. it is not gibberish I agree with you. I guess it is hard to move from stage to stage. The pics thing too, I know people (anyone famous or otherwise) should not take picture of themselves in the nude. Someone will always find them and post it on the internet. People might say "I trust my boyfriend/girlfriend." Well no to be a negative Nelly, but you might break up and he/she have these pics of you. I have been with my bf for almost 3 years. I have known him for almost 8 and I still will not send him any pics like that.
I even remember my sister found a phone in the library, so she got and try to call the owner of the phone to let them know she has it, and She will return it the next day. She spoke with him and arranged a meeting to give him his phone.
Well that is the nice part. This is the gross part. I told her look through the pics so when you meet this guy you will know what he looks like. EVERYONE TAKES PICTURES OF THEMSELVES ON THIER OWN PHONE.
Well the first picture that was on there was of his g/f (I hope it was) of her Spread Eagle without panties facing the camera. When I saw the pic I almost dropped the phone is shock. I told her never mind just give it to the person that asks for it. If I was a PERV I could have posted that pic on the internet.
Where would have that girl been then?
So I repeat do not take nude pics of yourself because someone will find it.
Sandra,
Great dancer!!
I will answer your other post when I get home. I am off from work!!!
YAY!!!
